How It Happened
Sacramento hung around for half a quarter. Domantas Sabonis's tip-in put the Kings up 11-10 at 7:41 of the first, and Darius Acuff Jr.'s 25-foot pull-up made it 23-22 with 4:15 left. It was their last lead.
San Antonio closed the quarter on a 17-6 run for a 39-29 lead. Wembanyama had 15 points in the first quarter on 7-of-10 shooting, four of them dunks, and Devin Vassell hit three 3-pointers in the opening five minutes.
Julian Champagnie took over the second quarter. He went 8 of 10 from three in the first half, and his 3 at 4:23 made it 68-43. Wembanyama's tip at the buzzer sent the Spurs to the locker room up 80-54.

Model Check
The preview found no edge, so there was no pick to grade. Our model favored the Kings at 82%, against a market that had the Spurs between -1800 and -2500. The preview treated that read as a model error and passed. The Kings lost by 27.
- Sacramento's defense invited a blowout: held. The Kings allowed 130, their fourth straight game giving up 121 or more.
- San Antonio's offense hadn't earned 18: wrong. A team shooting 31.9% from three coming in hit 46% (17 of 37) and posted its highest score of the season.
- The back-to-back meant bench minutes: half right. No starter topped 30 minutes and the fourth was even, but the Spurs entered it up 27, so no backdoor cover was in play.
- Wembanyama's jumper was the swing factor. He went 0 of 3 from three and didn't need it, finishing 14 of 21 with a career-high-tying nine dunks.
The preview took no position on the total.
