How It Happened
Winnipeg's penalties decided the first period. With the Jets serving a holding minor, Verhaeghe opened the scoring at 7:27, set up by Brady Tkachuk and Seth Jones. Niko Mikkola made it 2-0 at even strength at 8:42, and 16 seconds into a too-many-men minor, Verhaeghe scored again at 10:18 off feeds from Matthew Tkachuk and Jones. That was three goals in 2:51.
Adam Lowry gave Winnipeg a pulse at 12:27 of the second, scoring unassisted while the Jets killed a high-sticking minor. It lasted 47 seconds. On that same power play, Sam Reinhart made it 4-1 at 13:14, with both Tkachuks assisting.
Brady Tkachuk closed it at 12:10 of the third at even strength, from Matthew Tkachuk and Mikkola. Schmid stopped 24 of 25 shots. Clay Stevenson, who started for Winnipeg instead of the projected Stuart Skinner, allowed five goals on 24 shots.
Matthew Tkachuk had four assists and Jones had three, logging 25:02 of ice time. The Jets put 25 shots on goal, one more than Florida, and lost by four.

Model Check
The preview made no pick. The model favored Florida at 64%, at low confidence, against a market that priced the Panthers near 55%. Florida won, so the model's favorite came through. With no pick, there is no return to grade.
How the preview's reasons held up:
- Special teams. Held. The preview gave Florida the penalty-kill edge (84.9% to 80.8%). On the night Florida went 3-for-5 on the power play and Winnipeg 0-for-2, and that was the game.
- Winnipeg's scoring. Held. The Jets came in at 2.45 goals per game, 29th, with 9 goals in five games. They scored once, shorthanded, and have 10 goals in six games.
- Shot suppression. Mixed. Florida allowed 25 shots, near its 24.1 average, but Winnipeg still outshot the Panthers 25-24. The shot count didn't decide this one.
- Goaltending. Failed. The preview relied on Skinner's .911 against Schmid's .872. Skinner didn't start, Stevenson stopped 19 of 24, and Schmid stopped 24 of 25.
Lean: under 6 goals, a push (six goals).
Betting Results
- Moneyline: Florida won as a road favorite, priced at -130 to -137 in the preview.
- Puck line: Florida -1.5 covered with a four-goal win; Winnipeg +1.5 did not.
- Total: 6 goals. That's over 5.5, the number at most books in the preview, and a push at 6.
