Heat vs Hawks Prediction, Picks & Odds (Oct 28, 2026)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model makes Atlanta a 55% favorite at low confidence, short of the 59–61% the market prices in.
- Atlanta's +9.0 net rating (10th) dwarfs Miami's -12.4 (27th), but both Hawks wins came at Orlando and Charlotte.
- Giannis Antetokounmpo averages 28.5-9.5-5.0, yet Miami is 0-4 straight up and against the spread, shooting 30.6% from three.
- Aaron Wiggins (15.8 PPG) is questionable for Atlanta with a knee contusion.

The Miami Heat (0-4) visit the Atlanta Hawks (2-2) at 7:00 PM ET Wednesday, on WPLG in Miami, WANF/WPCH in Atlanta and NBA League Pass elsewhere. Atlanta is a 2.5- to 3.5-point favorite with the total at 240.5 to 241.5. The tension: Giannis Antetokounmpo is stuffing the box score, yet Miami hasn't won or covered once. Our model leans Atlanta at only 55%, below what the price implies. No edge.
How these teams got here
Miami's first four games under its new superstar have all been losses: 131-106 to Minnesota, 128-111 to Detroit, 115-110 at Charlotte and 113-109 to Dallas on Monday. The silver lining is the trend. The margins went 25, 17, 5, 4, so the Heat are getting closer. The problem is the offense: 109.0 points per game (28th) and a 105.7 offensive rating (27th). Miami is 0-4 against the spread, and three of its four games went under.
Atlanta started hot. It won 132-125 at Orlando and then destroyed Charlotte 128-81 on the road. Houston then beat the Hawks twice in three days, 121-114 in Atlanta and 120-110 in Houston on Monday. Even so, the Hawks score 121.0 per game (5th) and own a +9.0 net rating (10th) against Miami's -12.4 (27th). Three of Atlanta's four games went over.
Both teams last played Monday, so neither side has a rest edge. Atlanta hosts Cleveland on Thursday, which makes tonight the front end of a back-to-back.
Giannis vs. Jalen Johnson
This is a heavyweight frontcourt fight. Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists. He posted 29-14-11 in 39 minutes against Dallas and still lost. Davion Mitchell adds 18.0 points and 7.0 assists, while Bam Adebayo (11.8 points, 7.3 boards) and Bobby Portis (10.3 points, 8.0 boards) fill out the frontcourt.
Jalen Johnson is Atlanta's engine at 21.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 8.5 assists. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (18.8), CJ McCollum (17.3), Aaron Wiggins (15.8) and Dyson Daniels (13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds) give the Hawks five double-digit scorers.
The swing stat is the three-point line. Miami launches 40.0 threes a night but hits just 30.6%, so Giannis keeps seeing crowded paint. Atlanta wasn't much better on Monday at 11-of-39. On defense, Miami allows 121.8 points (24th) with a 118.0 defensive rating (22nd), while Atlanta sits at 109.1 (11th). The Heat also turn it over 14.5 times a game, which feeds a Hawks team that wants to run.
Injury watch: Wiggins and Fontecchio
The official report has Aaron Wiggins questionable with a left knee contusion. He logged 26:39 in Houston on Monday, so it looks like a knock, not a long absence. He's Atlanta's fourth-leading scorer, and losing him would thin a rotation that already lacks big man Mouhamed Gueye (out, left foot fracture) and center Henri Veesaar (out, ACL). Jock Landale is listed available.
For Miami, Simone Fontecchio is doubtful with an illness and Pelle Larsson is probable with a right ankle sprain. Neither changes the core of the game: no starter-level star on either side is in real doubt.
How the line has moved
The Hawks opened at -3.5 with the moneyline around -157 to -162 and the total at 239.5. The moneyline has since come down to -145 to -155, a few books have dropped to -2.5, and the total has ticked up to 240.5–241.5. That's a modest drift toward a winless team, so the market still respects what Giannis can do.
Prediction: no edge
No edge. The breakdown:
- The model isn't beating the price. It gives Atlanta 55% at low confidence, while -145 to -155 implies roughly 59–61%.
- The efficiency gap favors Atlanta, with a +9.0 net rating against Miami's -12.4. But both Hawks wins came against Orlando and Charlotte, and Houston just beat them twice.
- Miami is trending up. Its losing margins shrank from 25 to 4 over four games.
- History cuts the other way. Miami won 3 of 4 meetings last season, including 143-117 in April.
The swing factor is Miami's shooting: one night above 35% from three changes this game. If Wiggins sits, Atlanta's depth takes a hit.
On the total, the trends split cleanly: Miami's games went under in 3 of 4 and Atlanta's went over in 3 of 4. At 240.5–241.5, we pass there too.
