Week 5 NFL Picks

NFL Week 5 is when we start to separate the contenders from the pretenders. Every week in the NFL is essential, and it all leads back to our Week 5 NFL picks.

Teams that start 3-0 have around a 75% chance of making the playoffs, while 0-3 teams are sitting around a 13% chance. If either team goes undefeated or winless through 5 weeks, those percentages exponentially move.

Bye weeks start this week, with four teams not on the schedule (Cleveland, Los Angeles, Seattle, Tampa Bay). Something I don’t think we ever saw on an NFL schedule also happens in Week 5 in 2023. The Jacksonville Jaguars are playing back-to-back weeks in the UK. After hosting Atlanta at Wembley Stadium in Week 4, they are the visiting team vs. the Bills at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in Week 5.

Week 5 NFL Picks, Odds & Betting Lines

Of the 14 games on the schedule, you’ll find 5-point spreads at -6 or higher. The highest spreads on the board have the Dolphins a 10-point home favorite against the Giants and the Bengals a 7.5-point road favorite in Arizona.

Detroit Lions fans will be happy to know their team is -7 hosting the Panthers. They look to continue their winning ways. The Chiefs are giving 6-point on the road in Minnesota, while the Steelers are 2.5-point dogs at home in an AFC North clash vs. the Ravens.

Thursday Night Football has the chance to be a stinker. The Commanders host the Bears to kick off our Week 5 NFL picks. Current lines have Washington as a 5-point favorite and -220 on the money line. Can the Bears get it together before yet another season is lost?

Pop Culture Storyline Over Week 5 NFL Picks

Perhaps the biggest story from the Week 5 schedule is one that doesn’t matter much in the standings. After taking over as the head coach for the Broncos, Sean Payton had some choice words for ex-Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett. Will they play into our Week 5 NFL picks?

Payton said that Hackett “might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.” Later, Aaron Rodgers stood up for his OC, saying, “I think he needs to keep my coach’s name out of his mouth.” After a quarter of the season has played out, neither the Jets nor Broncos are close to playoff contention.

Watching this storyline in the lead-up to Week 5 will be interesting. Our Week 5 NFL picks could take some of these stories into consideration. But we’d prefer to stick to what matters. Have you been following our picks? NFL Week 5 picks are here, and it’s your week to start winning with us.

Best Pick ATS

The Houston Texans have been a surprising team this season, and they will try to keep it rolling against the Atlanta Falcons. Houston comes into this game with a 2-2 record, which is the same as the Falcons.

This is going to be one of the best Week 5 NFL picks to make when looking to bet against the spread, and the home team is a small one-point favorite in this matchup. Atlanta will be looking to get back on track after losing in London, and the Falcons are going to get the job done in this one.

Atlanta Falcons -1.0

Best Moneyline Pick

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, and this is a big game in the NFC. Philadelphia is a perfect 4-0 this season, and they are big 4.5-point betting favorites on the road at Los Angeles.

This Eagles team did look a bit shaky in their Week 4 win over the Washington Commanders, and they are facing a Rams team that can score. There will be plenty of points in this game, and the Rams are good enough to keep things close.

Philadelphia Eagles -200

Best Total Pick

The New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots are two teams that love to run the football and defend, and they are set to battle in Week 5. New England is a slim 1.5-point betting favorite at home in this matchup, but this is a game in which looking at the total number of points is the play.

The over/under line seems pretty low at 39.5 total points on Sunday, but both teams are comfortable with slowing down the action. Taking the under 39.5 points is the way to go in this game, and it’s going to be a battle.

Under 39.5 Points

Best Player Prop

The Baltimore Ravens are set to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, and this is one of the best rivalries in the NFL. Baltimore has been the much better team so far this season, but you should expect the Steelers to battle in this game.

It’s going to take another big game from Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson to win this game, and he uses his legs better than most in the league. Jackson is averaging a touchdown per game this season, and he is going to find the end zone again in this game.

Lamar Jackson Any Time Touchdown Scorer

Best Team Prop

The winless Carolina Panthers are set to visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and the home team is a big nine-point betting favorite. Detroit is a team that can put up points in a hurry, but they sometimes forget that they have to defend.

Carolina comes into this game with a rookie quarterback in Bryce Young, and he has actually been playing pretty well this season. The Panthers should have some success on offense in this game, and taking the Panthers to score at least two touchdowns is one of the best Week 5 NFL picks to make.

Carolina Panthers Over 1.5 Touchdowns (-170)

Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Buffalo Bills

The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to play their second straight game in London, and the team has been there for a long time. This time, it will be the Buffalo Bills that are paying a visit, and this is a huge game in the AFC.

Jacksonville was able to get past the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4, but this team just hasn’t looked great through four games. Look for Buffalo to take control in this matchup as they win big to cover the spread.

Buffalo Bills -5.5

New York Giants vs. Miami Dolphins

The New York Giants are a complete mess, and now they head to Miami to take on a Dolphins team that has been playing well. Miami did suffer a loss to Buffalo in Week 4, but this offense has been terrific this season.

New York is a team that hasn’t been able to score at all on offense this season, and they haven’t stopped anyone, either. Miami is going to have another monster game on offense, and they will help push the total points to over 49.5 points.

Over 49.5 Points

Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts

Good luck figuring out the AFC South this season, as all four of the teams continue to be inconsistent. The Tennessee Titans visit the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and this is a big game for each team.

The Colts are a slim favorite in this game, but it’s just too hard to know how things will play out. You can always count on Derrick Henry to have a big game in this rivalry, though, and taking him to find the end zone is a good play.

Derrick Henry Any Time Touchdown Scorer

Cincinnati Bengals vs. Arizona Cardinals

At some point, the Cincinnati Bengals are going to figure this thing out and make a run, but they are starting to run out of time. Maybe it will be this weekend as Cincinnati travels to Arizona to face a struggling Cardinals team.

The Bengals are clearly the most talented team in this matchup, but they need Joe Burrow to have a big game in this one. The Cardinals don’t have a defense that can stop the Bengals, and Cincinnati will finally cruise to a win.

Cincinnati Bengals -2.5

New York Jets vs. Denver Broncos

The New York Jets are heading to Denver on Sunday with some momentum after they nearly upset the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday Night Football. That game still counted as a loss, though, and now the Jets have the same 1-3 record as the Broncos.

Denver was able to come back from a 28-7 deficit to beat the lowly Chicago Bears in Week 4, but that win should give them some confidence. Nothing is going to come easy for the Broncos, but taking them on the money line is the play as they pick up a second straight win.

Denver Broncos -125

Just like teams in the NFL, bettors wagering on Week 5 NFL picks could be so far down a winning season is near impossible. SportsHub is here to help you.

We failed to mention a high-powered Sunday Night Football matchup on tap in week 5. The Dallas Cowboys travel to play the San Francisco 49ers in what should be an excellent finish to a football Sunday. After three weeks, the Cowboys and 49ers are tied for the best point differential in the NFC (+48). The 49ers have the edge with a 3-0 record, with Dallas at 2-1. This game could have massive implications on the NFC Playoff landscape as we reach the end of the season.
