Kings vs Sabres Prediction, Picks & Odds (Oct 31, 2026)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model makes Buffalo a 54% winner, and the -122 to -125 moneyline already implies about 55%.
- Both penalty kills rank in the bottom six: the Kings at 64.9% (31st) and the Sabres at 67.4% (27th).
- Projected starters Luukkonen (.866) and Kuemper (.878) are both under .880 this season.
- The Kings are 1-3-0 at home; the Sabres are 3-1-3 on the road and have won two straight.

The Buffalo Sabres (6-4-3) visit the Los Angeles Kings (4-6-2) at Crypto.com Arena on Saturday at 4:00 PM ET (ABTV, MSG-B, SN1). Buffalo is a short road favorite at -122 to -125, with the total at 5.5. Both teams just survived wild Thursday finishes, and both rank in the league's bottom seven in goals allowed and bottom six on the penalty kill. Our model makes Buffalo a 54% winner, right on the market: no edge on the side.
How these teams got here
Buffalo arrives on a two-game heater from its California swing. Colten Ellis stopped all 23 shots in a 2-0 win at San Jose on Tuesday, and Thursday the Sabres outlasted Anaheim 7-6. Tage Thompson scored a hat trick, and Buffalo built a 7-3 lead before the Ducks scored three times in the third, including two goals in the final 68 seconds. The Sabres are 3-1-3 on the road and only 3-3-0 at home.
Los Angeles is 29th in the league in points with 10. The Kings went 3-2 on a five-game road trip, then came home Thursday and nearly gave away a 5-1 lead to Ottawa. The Senators scored four in the third before Quinton Byfield won it 6-5 at 3:37 of overtime. That was the Kings' first home win of the season: they are 1-3-0 at Crypto.com Arena.
The goal differentials are almost identical. Buffalo is at 40-47 (3.08 scored, 3.54 allowed per game) and Los Angeles at 34-42 (2.83 and 3.50). Both teams played Thursday, so neither has a rest edge.
Special teams and the crease
This is where the game gets loose. The Kings' penalty kill is 64.9%, 31st in the NHL, and Buffalo's is 67.4%, 27th. Neither power play has cashed in much: Los Angeles converts 17.5% (23rd) and Buffalo 13.6% (28th). Still, two of the Sabres' seven goals Thursday came on the power play, and Anaheim scored three of its six with the man advantage.
Up front, Thompson leads Buffalo with 8 goals and 15 points, Jack Quinn has 7 goals, and Owen Power and Zach Benson have 11 points each. Artemi Panarin carries the Kings with 8 goals, 13 points and 3 power-play goals, ahead of Alex Laferriere and Brandt Clarke at 9 points each.
In goal, the projected starters are Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen for Buffalo and Darcy Kuemper for Los Angeles; neither was confirmed at writing. Luukkonen is 3-3-3 with a 3.56 GAA and .866 save percentage. Ellis (3-1-0, .880, one shutout) has started the last two, so watch the morning skate. Kuemper is 4-3-1 with a 3.65 GAA and .878. He allowed five goals on 22 shots Thursday, while backup Anton Forsberg (.902) is 0-3-1.
Who's missing
The Kings lost two wingers in the same week. Kevin Fiala (lower leg) and Mats Zuccarello (upper body) both went on injured reserve on Oct. 29, and both are considered week-to-week. Brandt Clarke, a defenseman with 3 goals and 9 points, has been listed as day-to-day since Oct. 30. Losing him would thin a blue line that already allows 28.1 shots per game (22nd).
Buffalo's problem is down the middle. Jiri Kulich is in concussion protocol, Konsta Helenius is out, and Justin Danforth went on injured reserve Thursday. Alex Lyon is on IR after a setback, so the crease is down to Luukkonen and Ellis. Defensemen Matt Grzelcyk and Conor Timmins are also on IR.
How the line has moved
The Kings opened as a -118 home favorite on Friday afternoon, with Buffalo at -102. Within the hour the market flipped. The Sabres now sit at -122 to -125 and the Kings at +102 to +105. That is a real move for a game this close, and it came a day after the Kings lost Fiala and Zuccarello. The total hasn't moved from 5.5, but the over is now juiced to -133 to -137, and a few books have moved to 6.
Prediction: no edge
No edge. The model's 54% for Buffalo is at or just below the roughly 55% the moneyline already implies, and its confidence is low. The factors don't line up either way:
- Buffalo's form: two straight wins, 3-1-3 on the road, and wins in both 2025-26 meetings, each by 4-1.
- The Kings' home slump: one win in four games at Crypto.com Arena, now without Fiala and Zuccarello.
- Special teams favor Los Angeles a bit: 17.5% vs 13.6% on the power play, though the Kings' 31st-ranked kill gives that back.
- Goaltending is a wash: Luukkonen at .866 against Kuemper at .878.
The swing factor is the Buffalo net. An Ellis start after his San Jose shutout would tilt things a little toward the Sabres.
On the total, the numbers point to the over. Two bottom-six penalty kills, two projected starters under .880 and 13 and 11 goals in Thursday's games all say goals. But at -133 to -137 on 5.5, the price has already caught up.
