How It Happened
Detroit owned the first quarter. Paul Reed, starting at center for the injured Jalen Duren, scored inside early, and the Pistons closed the period on a 15-5 run capped by Reed's 3-pointer just before the horn for a 38-25 lead.
New York's bench flipped the second quarter. Landry Shamet and Andre Drummond kept the Knicks close, and Mikal Bridges' 3-pointer with 3:47 left gave them a 46-45 lead. Jalen Brunson, 1-for-9 from the field in the first half, made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left for a 51-50 halftime edge. The Knicks won the quarter 26-12.
The third quarter decided it. Brunson hit his first three shots and Bridges added a 3-pointer in an 11-0 opening burst that made it 62-50. Towns later scored seven straight Knicks points, and a 12-2 finish ended with Josh Hart's 3-pointer at the buzzer for an 88-63 lead. New York won the period 37-13.
Detroit answered in the fourth. Ausar Thompson scored nine points in the quarter, and the Pistons got within 99-86 with 4:54 left. Brunson's floater and an OG Anunoby three-point play pushed it back to 104-86, and after Detroit closed to 104-93, Hart's 3-pointer with 2:18 left settled it.
The Knicks grabbed 19 offensive rebounds; the Pistons blocked 11 shots in the loss.

Model Check
We made no pick on this game. Our model gave the Knicks 53% at low confidence, below the 58–60% the licensed moneyline implied, so the preview passed. The Knicks won.
How the preview's reasons held up:
- "New York can't score yet" did not hold. The league's last-ranked offense (101.7 points per game) scored 111, including 37 in the third quarter, and lived at the line (23 of 28).
- "Detroit's shooting won't stay this hot" held. The Pistons came in at 42.0% from three and shot 24.3% (9 of 37); Duncan Robinson went 2-for-10.
- "The Knicks' defense is real" held. Detroit scored 25 points in the second and third quarters combined, though it committed only 14 turnovers, below its 18.0 average.
- Duren's absence cut both ways. New York won the glass 49-45, with Towns grabbing 20, but Reed filled in with 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting.
- The injury swing factor: Ausar Thompson played (11 points, six rebounds); Isaiah Joe (hip) did not.
The preview had no play on the total.
