Cavaliers vs Nets Prediction, Picks & Odds (Oct. 24, 2026)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model makes Cleveland a 79% winner, right in line with the 78–80% the licensed moneylines imply after the vig.
- Cleveland has won seven straight against Brooklyn and 12 of the last 13, per CBS Sports.
- The total has fallen from 231.5–233.5 at the open to 227.5–228.5.
- Brooklyn hosts Indiana on Sunday, so the Nets are on the front end of a back-to-back.

The Cleveland Cavaliers (0-1) host the Brooklyn Nets (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Rocket Arena (NBA TV, YES Network). Cleveland is -11.5 across licensed books, with moneylines from -455 to -526, and the total has slid from 231.5–233.5 to 227.5–228.5. Both teams lost their openers, but Cleveland's came after it led by 29. The model makes the Cavs 79% winners, right at the market's own price: no edge on the side.
How these teams got here
Cleveland went 52-30 last season, won two seven-game series and was then swept by the Knicks in the East finals. The new season opened the same way the last one ended. The Cavs led Philadelphia by 29 and lost 114-106 on Thursday after the 76ers dropped 69 on them in the second half, per Sports Mole.
Donovan Mitchell carried the load with 32 points and 10 rebounds. The ball security was ugly: 21 turnovers, six from James Harden and five from Peyton Watson in 30 minutes. Cleveland also shot 24.1% from three after hitting 34.9% in the preseason, per Sports Mole.
Brooklyn is coming off a 20-62 season and lost its opener 110-103 at home to Charlotte on Wednesday, its fourth straight defeat dating back to last spring. The schedule doesn't help either. The Nets host Indiana on Sunday, so tonight is the front end of a back-to-back. Cleveland has no game Sunday.
Randle and Porter against Cleveland's size
The Nets have a real one-two punch now. Julius Randle opened his Brooklyn career with 33 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists on 11-of-18 shooting. Michael Porter Jr. added 26 on 10-of-21. The problem is everyone else: Egor Demin went 2-of-10 and 0-for-5 from deep.
Cleveland's answer is size. Evan Mobley (18 points in the opener) and Jarrett Allen are both in the projected starting five. The Cavs pulled down 46 rebounds at Philadelphia, while Brooklyn grabbed 38 against Charlotte. But Brooklyn made 12 threes in its opener to Cleveland's 7. If the Cavs' shooting snaps back toward their preseason number, that gap closes fast.
History leans hard one way. Cleveland has won seven straight against Brooklyn and 12 of the last 13, and Mitchell is 17-4 in his career against the Nets, per CBS Sports.
Who's missing
Brooklyn rules out forward Tyler Bilodeau (shoulder). Guard Mikel Brown Jr. was held to 20 minutes against Charlotte with a left ankle sprain, per Sports Mole, so the Nets' backcourt depth is thin before a back-to-back.
Cleveland's regular rotation is intact. The absences are at the end of the bench, and Allen, a game-time call for the opener, is projected to start.
How the line has moved
The spread opened at -10.5, touched -12.5 this morning and settled at -11.5. The bigger move is the total, down roughly 4–6 points from where it opened. That's the market betting on a slower, sloppier game than either team's preseason scoring suggested.
Prediction: no edge
No edge. Cleveland should win, but -11.5 is a fair number, not a soft one.
- The price matches the model. The model gives Cleveland 79%. Strip the vig from the licensed moneylines and the market sits at roughly 78–80%. There's no gap to bet.
- The margins split. Cleveland swept last season's three meetings by an average of 13, but the scores were 131-124, 112-84 and 106-102. Two of the three landed inside 11.5.
- Turnovers cut both ways. The Cavs' 21 giveaways and 69-point second half allowed are the case for Brooklyn plus the points. The Nets' own 22 turnovers in the opener are the case against.
- The spot favors Cleveland. Brooklyn's back-to-back and thin guard depth argue for a late Cavs push, which keeps us off the Nets too.
Swing factor: Cleveland's three-point shooting. A return to its preseason rate turns this into a blowout. Another sub-25% night keeps Brooklyn in it.
Total: after a drop of more than four points to 227.5–228.5, the value on the under is gone. We pass there too.
