Galaxy vs LAFC Prediction, Picks & Odds (El Tráfico, Oct 25)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model's 73% on LAFC rests on a 5% draw, far below the market's roughly 21-23%.
- LAFC clinches a playoff spot with a win or a draw. It has conceded 33 goals to the Galaxy's 52.
- Bouanga (17 goals, 11 career goals against the Galaxy) and Son (15 assists) against Klauss, who has scored in 4 of his last 5.

LAFC (12W-9L-10D, 46 points) hosts the LA Galaxy (10W-11L-10D, 40 points) in the 28th El Tráfico on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT) at BMO Stadium, on Apple TV. LAFC is a -179 to -208 favorite on the three-way line, with the draw at +340 to +375 and the Galaxy at +400 to +450. A win or a draw clinches LAFC's playoff spot, and the Galaxy are chasing one of the West's last places. Our call: no edge.
How these teams got here
LAFC's season nearly came apart in late summer. A 1-4-4 stretch in August and September cost coach Marc Dos Santos his job. Interim coach Xavi Tamarit has steadied things: unbeaten in three, with a 1-1 home draw against Vancouver, a 3-1 win over Austin and a 1-1 draw at NYCFC last Saturday. LAFC has had a full week of training for this one. Since beating the Galaxy on July 17, though, LAFC is just 4W-4L-7D in MLS.
The Galaxy are trending the other way. They're 3-1-2 since Sept. 12, and last weekend they drew 2-2 at home with San Diego FC. The 2024 MLS Cup champions missed the playoffs last season, and coach Greg Vanney says his team can't afford to play it safe.
Bouanga and Son against a leaky back line
LAFC's attack runs through two players. Denis Bouanga leads the club with 17 goals and has 11 career goals against the Galaxy, one short of Carlos Vela's series record of 12. Son Heung-Min leads MLS with 15 assists and scored in the 3-0 win in July.
That's a problem for a Galaxy defense that has conceded 52 goals, against LAFC's 33, the third-fewest in the league. The Galaxy's answer is in front. Joao Klauss has 9 goals and has scored in four of his last five matches, including a fourth-minute opener against San Diego. Marco Reus has 8 goals and leads the team in goal contributions. LAFC has scored only 48 goals, 15th in MLS, so this isn't a team that runs up scores.
Who's missing
The Galaxy's attack is short-handed. Hirving Lozano (hamstring) is expected to miss the derby and target the Halloween match, Kyogo Furuhashi (hamstring) is out, and Riqui Puig (knee) has been out since February. Midfielder Isaiah Parente (ankle) is questionable. Without Lozano and Furuhashi, the scoring load falls even more on Klauss and Reus.
LAFC has three question marks. Midfielder Timothy Tillman (pelvis), forward Jeremy Ebobisse (leg) and goalkeeper Cabral Carter (arm) are all listed as questionable. None of them is central to the Bouanga–Son attack.
Prediction: no edge
Our model makes LAFC a 73% favorite, which looks like value against the 64-68% implied by the moneyline. We're not buying it, for three reasons:
- The draw is mispriced in the model. It gives the draw just 5%, while the books price it at about 21-23%. LAFC has drawn 10 of 31 games, and two of three under Tamarit.
- Form is closer than the table says. LAFC is 4W-4L-7D since July 17, and the Galaxy are 3-1-2 since mid-September.
- LAFC's attack is middle of the pack. Its 48 goals rank 15th, which doesn't support pricing it like a team that blows rivals out.
LAFC's defense (33 conceded) against the Galaxy's (52) is the real gap, and Bouanga's history in this rivalry is the swing factor. But at -179 to -208 with a draw this live, there's no price worth headlining.
On the total, licensed books have 3.5 with the under at -125 to -141. That fits an LAFC team that has kept 13 clean sheets, according to SportsGrid.
