Washington (3-3) visits Purdue (3-3) on Friday, October 16 at 8:00 PM ET at Ross-Ade Stadium on FOX, with Purdue a 3.5-point favorite and the total around 52. The Huskies have dropped three straight and will likely start backup Elijah Brown, while the Boilermakers have won two in a row. Our pick: no edge. Our model makes Purdue a 60% winner, below the 62.8% the moneyline already prices in.
Washington vs Purdue Odds
| Market | Washington | Purdue |
|---|---|---|
| Spread | +3.5 (-110 to -114) | -3.5 (-108 to -110) |
| Moneyline | +138 to +141 | -167 to -174 |
| Total | 51.5 to 52.5 | 51.5 to 52.5 |
Purdue at -169 carries an implied win probability of 62.8%. Earlier in the week the market sat at Purdue -3 with a 52.5 total, so the move has been toward the Boilermakers as the news on Washington's quarterback got worse.
Washington: A Quarterback Problem on Top of a Skid
Washington opened 3-0 against non-conference opponents, including a 14-point win over Washington State, then lost three Big Ten games in a row: to Minnesota by three, USC by four and Iowa 41-24 last Friday.
Starter Demond Williams Jr. took a hit to the ribs in the second quarter at Iowa and did not return. Coach Jedd Fisch called it "significant" and said, "I'm not under the impression that he'll be playing this week." Williams had 8 passing TDs, 3 INTs, 183 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs before the injury.
That puts Elijah Brown in line to start. He went 28-of-39 for 251 yards and 3 TDs in relief at Iowa and led all three of Washington's touchdown drives that night.
The bigger issue is the line of scrimmage. Washington has allowed 19 sacks, averages just 3.1 yards per carry, and managed 4.79 yards per play across the Minnesota, USC and Iowa losses (per VSiN). The defense has been solid on the season at 22.2 points allowed per game, but it gave up more than six yards per play in all three conference games.
Purdue: The Run Game Is Rolling
Purdue lost close early games to Wake Forest and UCLA, then beat Illinois 35-31 and Minnesota 41-13 for its first back-to-back Big Ten wins since 2022.
The Minnesota game was a statement: 305 rushing yards and 464 total yards, with sophomore Fame Ijeboi running for 195 yards and 3 TDs. QB Ryan Browne added 81 rushing yards and a score, and Purdue played turnover-free while forcing two.
Browne has been efficient through the air too: 9 TD passes, 1 INT and a 68.9% completion rate this season, a big cleanup from 10 INTs against 9 TDs in 2025.
The catch is the defense. Purdue scores 32.2 points per game but allows 31.3, and per SI it ranks outside the top 100 nationally in defensive success rate.
Key Matchup: Purdue's Ground Game vs Washington's Front
| Stat | Washington | Purdue |
|---|---|---|
| Points per game | 26.2 | 32.2 |
| Points allowed | 22.2 | 31.3 |
| Yards/play, last 3 | 4.79 | 6.83 |
| Last 3 games | 0-3 | 2-1 |
Purdue averaged 6.83 yards per play in Big Ten games against UCLA, Illinois and Minnesota, while Washington gained 4.79 in its three conference losses. If Ijeboi gets to the second level the way he did against Minnesota, Brown could be throwing from behind with a line that has already allowed 19 sacks.
Washington also travels from the West Coast to the Eastern Time Zone for a Friday night game.

Washington vs Purdue Prediction
No edge. The model sides with Purdue at 60%, but the moneyline already prices Purdue at 62.8%, so there is no value on the favorite at -169 or on the spread at -3.5.
- Purdue's offense is the better unit: 6.83 yards per play in league play vs Washington's 4.79.
- Washington's quarterback situation: Williams is unlikely to play, and Brown has 276 passing yards and 4 TDs on the season.
- Purdue's defense keeps it close: 31.3 points allowed per game, and Brown threw 3 TDs in his relief outing.
- The market already moved: from Purdue -3 to -3.5, which absorbs much of the injury news.
- Total: Purdue games have gone over 5 of 6 times (per 950 KJR), but a backup QB behind a line that has allowed 19 sacks argues the other way. We pass there too.
The risk on any side: Washington beat Purdue 49-13 in Seattle last November, and a defense allowing 22.2 points per game can make this a grind.
Predicted score: Purdue 27, Washington 24.
