Delaware vs Missouri State Prediction, Picks & Odds (Week 8)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model gives Delaware 57% with low confidence, no better than the 58–60% a -150 to -155 moneyline implies.
- Near-identical offenses: Delaware scores 22.8 points a game, Missouri State 22.2. The gap is defense: 26.8 allowed vs. 30.5.
- Missouri State is 0-3 away from Springfield and has scored 37 points total in those games.
- Delaware's Nick Minicucci (knee) is week to week; freshman Tyler Bell threw for 306 yards in his first start.

Delaware (2-4, 0-2 C-USA) hosts Missouri State (2-4, 1-1) Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET at Delaware Stadium in Newark, live on ESPNU. The Blue Hens are 2.5- to 3-point favorites with the total at 51.5 to 52.5. The tension: both teams are likely to start quarterbacks with exactly one career start, and the model's 57% for Delaware sits right where the market already prices it. SportsHub call: no edge.
How these teams got here
Delaware opened 2-1, beating Merrimack 42-7 and Coastal Carolina 22-14, then lost three straight: 42-3 at Virginia, 30-14 to Liberty and 33-30 at Middle Tennessee a week ago. That last one stung. The Hens led 30-26 in the fourth quarter, gave up a 14-yard touchdown pass with 3:06 left and threw an interception with 1:51 to go.
Missouri State arrives with the opposite mood. The Bears snapped a three-game skid last Wednesday, beating Kennesaw State 24-21 on Yousef Obeid's 20-yard field goal as time expired. It was the program's first FBS win under Casey Woods.
The season numbers are close to identical. Delaware scores 22.8 points a game and allows 26.8; Missouri State scores 22.2 and allows 30.5. The location matters more: Delaware is 2-1 at home and has allowed 17.0 points per game in Newark, while Missouri State is 0-3 away from Springfield and has scored 37 points total in those three games (losses at Texas A&M, SMU and Western Kentucky). Both teams are working on a short week, Delaware with seven days of rest and Missouri State with six.
Two first-time starters, one big-play receiver
Freshman Tyler Bell made his first career start at Middle Tennessee and set a Delaware freshman record with 306 passing yards (22 of 36, two touchdowns, one interception). He also ran for 59 yards on 11 non-sack carries. The catch: he was sacked six times. Sean Wilson leads Delaware with 25 catches for 339 yards and three scores, and CBS Sports notes the Hens lead C-USA at 271 passing yards per game.
Missouri State's Henry Belin IV took over from Skyler Locklear (788 yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions) and answered with a career-high 300 yards on 28-of-39 passing against Kennesaw State. Per CBS Sports, he completed all 10 of his third-down throws. His favorite target is the most dangerous player in this game: Isaiah Myers has 554 yards on 27 catches, better than 20 yards a grab, with five touchdowns, including 7-135-2 last week.
The trench battle tilts to Delaware. The Hens have 19 sacks, led by Blake Matthews with 4.5, while Missouri State's defense has seven. If Delaware can make Belin uncomfortable, Myers gets fewer chances to flip the field. Missouri State linebacker Jared Lloyd, with 71 tackles, is the one defender who shows up on every snap.
The quarterback question
Nick Minicucci, Delaware's starter, hurt his knee in the second quarter at Virginia and has missed the last two games. Coach Ryan Carty calls him week to week, and no game status has been published. "Obviously it's not as easy as a defense to prepare when you're not sure who's going to be out there," Carty told the Delaware News Journal. Minicucci had 838 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions before the injury. If he plays, Delaware's ceiling rises; if not, Bell's pocket awareness against a soft pass rush is the swing.
For Missouri State, coach Casey Woods said last week he expected running back Breezy Dubar and offensive lineman Ryan Mitchell back from concussions, per the Springfield News-Leader. Receiver Mekhi Miller, hurt in pregame warmups against Kennesaw State, was unclear as of Thursday.
Prediction: no edge
No edge. Here is why the price is fair:
- The model agrees with the market. It gives Delaware 57% with low confidence; a -150 to -155 moneyline implies about 58–60%.
- The offenses are a wash. 22.8 vs. 22.2 points per game, and both teams are 3-3 against the spread.
- Delaware's edges are real but priced. A defense allowing 3.7 fewer points per game, a 19-to-7 sack gap and a winless Missouri State road record all point to the Hens, and that is exactly what a field-goal spread reflects.
- Missouri State has the best player. Myers at 20.5 yards per catch can erase a field-goal margin with one snap, and Belin was efficient in his debut.
The swing factor is whether Minicucci suits up. Without official word, the line already assumes Bell.
As for the total, both teams have gone over just twice in six games, and their games average 53.2 (Delaware) and 55.0 (Missouri State) combined points. A number of 51.5 to 52.5 is in the right neighborhood, so there's no play there either.
