2026 MLB World Series Predictions

2026 MLB Wild Card Series Odds, Picks and Predictions
The 2026 MLB postseason begins Tuesday, September 29, with four best-of-three Wild Card Series. The higher seed hosts every game, putting immediate pressure on the road teams to steal at least one matchup before the series can turn.
A three-game playoff series leaves almost no margin for error. One dominant start, one bullpen collapse or one big inning can change an entire postseason. That volatility makes the Wild Card round particularly interesting from a betting perspective.

Chicago White Sox vs Houston Astros Picks and Predictions
Chicago heads to Houston for one of the more difficult Wild Card Series to price. The White Sox finished with the better regular-season record, while Houston gets the considerable advantage of hosting the entire best-of-three series.
Houston enters around -140 to win the series, which translates to roughly a 58% implied probability. Chicago is available in the +115 to +125 range, creating an interesting underdog case given the White Sox's regular-season performance.
White Sox vs Astros Game 1 Odds
- Moneyline: Astros -132 to -145 | White Sox +112 to +121
- Run Line: Astros -1.5 (+145 to +158) | White Sox +1.5 (-167 to -175)
- Total: 8, with 8.5 also appearing in the supplied market range
- Probable starters: Sean Burke (CWS) vs Hunter Brown (HOU)
White Sox vs Astros Series Odds
- Series Winner: Astros -135 to -145 | White Sox +115 to +125
- Series Handicap: Astros -1.5 games +235 | White Sox +1.5 games -290

White Sox vs Astros Schedule
Daikin Park — Houston
- Game 1: Tuesday, September 29 — 5:00 p.m. ET
- Game 2: Wednesday, September 30 — 5:00 p.m. ET
- Game 3*: Thursday, October 1 — 5:00 p.m. ET
*If necessary.
White Sox vs Astros Matchup
Chicago enters the postseason with the better record, but Houston's home-field advantage changes the structure of this series. Every game is at Daikin Park, and Hunter Brown gives the Astros an important starting-pitching piece for the opener.
The White Sox have reasons for confidence. Their lineup has enough depth to pressure Houston throughout the order, while their rotation gives them a chance to keep games close if the starters avoid early trouble.
Houston's advantage comes from playing the entire series at home and having Brown available immediately. In such a short series, that Game 1 pitching matchup carries more weight than it would during the regular season.
Best Betting Angles
Does Houston's home field justify the price?
Houston's series price sits around -135 to -145 despite Chicago entering with the stronger regular-season record. Home field matters more than usual because Houston never has to travel during the series, but the relatively modest price shows there is not a massive gap between these teams.
Moneyline or run line?
Chicago's Game 1 moneyline ranges from +112 to +121, while taking the White Sox +1.5 runs requires a significantly more expensive -167 to -175 price. Houston bettors can trade the favorite's -132 to -145 moneyline for a larger +145 to +158 return by laying 1.5 runs.
The difference between price and required margin is covered in more detail in this MLB run line betting guide.
What matters most for the total?
The supplied total sits at 8, with 8.5 also appearing in the original market information. Burke and Brown's ability to work deep into the game will be critical. Strong starting pitching reduces exposure to the bullpen, while an early exit could quickly change the scoring environment.
Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees Picks and Predictions
One of baseball's biggest rivalries moves directly into the postseason as Boston visits New York for a best-of-three Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium.
The Yankees enter as approximately -170 favorites to win the series, with Boston priced at +140.

- Total: 6.5
- Over: -115
- Under: -104
Red Sox vs Yankees Series Odds
- Series Winner: Yankees -170 | Red Sox +140
- Series Handicap: Yankees -1.5 games +175 | Red Sox +1.5 games -215
- Total Games Over 2.5: -105
- Total Games Under 2.5: -115
Red Sox vs Yankees Schedule
Yankee Stadium — Bronx, New York
- Game 1: Tuesday, September 29 — 8:00 p.m. ET
- Game 2: Wednesday, September 30 — 8:00 p.m. ET
- Game 3*: Thursday, October 1 — 8:00 p.m. ET
*If necessary.
Red Sox vs Yankees Matchup
New York's strongest argument begins with its rotation and home-field advantage. The Yankees can structure their pitching staff specifically for a three-game series without having to leave the Bronx.
Boston's opportunity comes from the inherent volatility of the format. The Red Sox do not need to prove they are the better team across a seven-game series. They need two wins in three games.
Aaron Judge's availability is also an important variable for New York. Any change to his status affects the depth and ceiling of the Yankees lineup and should be checked before betting the series or individual games.
Best Betting Angles
How important is the Yankees lineup news?
Extremely. A major lineup change affects not only New York's -149 Game 1 moneyline but also the 6.5 total and potential player markets.
Why is the Game 1 total only 6.5?
The number indicates expectations for a relatively low-scoring opening game. The Over carries a -115 price, while the Under is available at -104. Starting pitching, lineup availability and aggressive postseason bullpen usage all factor heavily into such a low total.
Is betting the full series different from betting Game 1?
Yes. New York moves from -149 in Game 1 to -170 to win the series. Bettors expecting a competitive matchup can also attack the series length, with Over 2.5 games priced at -105 and Under 2.5 at -115.
National League Wild Card Picks and Predictions
Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves Picks and Predictions
Philadelphia and Atlanta add another postseason chapter to an NL East rivalry that has already produced several memorable October series.
One of the most notable market differences of the Wild Card round appears here. Atlanta is a substantial -193 Game 1 favorite, but the Braves' series price is only -125.
Phillies vs Braves Game 1 Odds
- Moneyline: Braves -193 | Phillies +159
- Total: 7
- Over: -110
- Under: -110
- Expected Atlanta starter: Chris Sale
Phillies vs Braves Series Odds
- Series Winner: Braves -125 | Phillies +105
- Total Games Over 2.5: -115
- Total Games Under 2.5: -105
Phillies vs Braves Schedule
Truist Park — Atlanta
- Game 1: Tuesday, September 29 — 2:00 p.m. ET
- Game 2: Wednesday, September 30 — 2:00 p.m. ET
- Game 3*: Thursday, October 1 — 2:00 p.m. ET
*If necessary.
Phillies vs Braves Matchup
Atlanta enters with home field, a strong bullpen and an immediate starting-pitching advantage if Sale takes the ball in Game 1.
Philadelphia's path becomes more interesting when the entire series is considered. The Phillies can potentially deploy Cristopher Sánchez and Zack Wheeler as the round develops, while Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber give the lineup proven middle-of-the-order power.
That distinction is reflected clearly in the odds. Atlanta's -193 Game 1 price is substantially steeper than its -125 series price.
Best Betting Angles
Why can Game 1 and series pricing look so different?
Starting pitchers have an enormous effect on individual MLB moneylines. Sale helps push Atlanta to -193 in Game 1, while the full-series price drops to -125 because Philadelphia's later pitching options can make Games 2 and 3 considerably more competitive.
Should bettors focus on Game 1 or the entire series?
The difference between Braves -193 in Game 1 and -125 for the series creates two very different betting propositions. Philadelphia is +159 in the opener but only +105 to win the entire series.
Does Philadelphia's previous postseason success against Atlanta matter?
It provides context, particularly for players who have already competed in high-pressure games at Truist Park, but previous postseason results should not outweigh current pitching, lineups, bullpen availability or price.
Those variables can be evaluated within a broader framework using this MLB betting basics and strategy guide.
Chicago Cubs vs San Diego Padres Picks and Predictions
Chicago and San Diego produce one of the most evenly priced Wild Card Series on the board.
San Diego sits around -120, with Chicago close to even money in the supplied series pricing. The narrow gap makes Game 1 pitching and lineup confirmation particularly important.
Cubs vs Padres Game 1 Odds
- Moneyline: Padres -116 to -126 | Cubs +101 to +113
- Run Line: Padres -1.5 (+177 to +180) | Cubs +1.5 (-195 to -204)
- Total: 7.5, with 7 also appearing in the supplied market range
- Over 7.5: approximately -109 to +100
- Under 7.5: approximately -105 to -115
- Expected San Diego starter: Michael King
Cubs vs Padres Series Odds
The original market information supplied two closely grouped sets of series prices:
- Series pricing: Padres -120 | Cubs +100
- Alternate supplied pricing: Padres approximately -115 | Cubs approximately -105
Cubs vs Padres Schedule
Petco Park — San Diego
- Game 1: Tuesday, September 29 — 10:00 p.m. ET
- Game 2: Wednesday, September 30 — 10:00 p.m. ET
- Game 3*: Thursday, October 1 — 10:00 p.m. ET
*If necessary.
Cubs vs Padres Matchup
San Diego's clearest advantages are home field and Michael King in Game 1. The Padres also avoid travel for the entire round, which simplifies bullpen and pitching management if the series reaches Thursday.
Chicago counters with a competitive roster capable of keeping the series close. The Game 1 moneyline reflects that balance, with San Diego only -116 to -126 and Chicago priced between +101 and +113.
Petco Park also matters when evaluating totals. The supplied Game 1 total ranges between 7 and 7.5, reinforcing expectations for a relatively tight scoring environment.
Best Betting Angles
Why is this matchup difficult to price?
The odds show how little separates the teams. San Diego's Game 1 moneyline sits only between -116 and -126, while Chicago remains close to even money.
Moneyline or run line?
Bettors expecting a close game can take Chicago +1.5 runs at -195 to -204, but that protection comes at a substantial premium. San Diego bettors willing to lay 1.5 runs can move from a negative moneyline to roughly +177 to +180.
How should bettors approach the total?
The supplied market information has the total primarily at 7.5, with 7 also appearing. At 7.5, the Over ranges from approximately -109 to +100 and the Under from -105 to -115.
The confirmed Chicago starter, bullpen availability and final lineup cards should determine whether either side of that number offers sufficient value.
What Matters Most When Betting the MLB Wild Card Round?
The Wild Card Series is different from the rest of the postseason because there is almost no time for a team to recover from a bad game.
That makes a few factors particularly important: starting-pitcher quality, bullpen availability, confirmed lineups, home field and the price attached to the wager.
Bettors should also separate individual-game analysis from series analysis. An ace can make a team significantly stronger in Game 1 without creating the same advantage over an entire series. Conversely, a team with greater rotation depth may become more attractive if the matchup reaches Game 3.
2026 MLB Playoff Predictions
My National League projection has Milwaukee winning the Central, Atlanta holding the East and Los Angeles winning the West. Chicago should remain comfortably inside the Wild Card field, while Philadelphia and San Diego currently have the inside track on the other two positions.
Arizona is the biggest immediate threat in the NL Wild Card race. The Diamondbacks sit only one game behind San Diego, while Miami and St. Louis remain close enough that the final six weeks cannot be treated as a formality.
The American League begins with Tampa Bay in the strongest position. The White Sox have the Central lead and Houston remains first in the West despite a record barely above .500. New York and Boston have built meaningful cushions in the Wild Card standings, while the final position could move several times between Baltimore, Texas, Toronto, Detroit, Minnesota and Cleveland.
My projected league championship matchups are Milwaukee against Los Angeles in the NLCS and Tampa Bay against New York in the ALCS. The Yankees projection depends heavily on getting Judge and enough of the lineup healthy before October.
The World Series prediction is Dodgers against Rays, with Los Angeles winning the championship. The Dodgers have the strongest combination of playoff experience and top end starting pitching after adding Skubal, but the current +170 price is still too short for me to turn that prediction into a wager.
2026 World Series Best Bets and Final Verdict
Milwaukee +950 is the best futures position on my board. The Brewers have the best record in baseball, a +136 run differential, a strong performance against winning teams and an improved pitching staff after the trade deadline. Their likely first round bye matters just as much as the raw talent when pricing the road to the World Series.
Tampa Bay +1000 is my preferred American League position. The Rays have outperformed some of their underlying run metrics, so the record deserves a little skepticism, but the combination of league leading record, likely bye and flexible pitching staff is enough to support the current price.
Boston +1400 is the smaller longshot. The Red Sox have a much stronger run differential than their record suggests and added Rutschman to a lineup that needed more production behind the plate. The risk is that Boston may need to survive the Wild Card round before facing the best teams in the league.
Los Angeles remains my most likely champion, but the market already knows how good the Dodgers are. Atlanta is a real contender with a rotation question, Chicago has a championship caliber roster but a more difficult current playoff path, and San Diego is the team I would least want to dismiss if its new rotation settles in before October.
The better move is to slow down and check what each team will actually carry into a postseason series. Starting pitching, bullpen depth, health and seeding matter more in October than the loudest regular season winning streak.
As the final playoff positions and pitching plans become clearer, readers can continue following the current MLB picks and predictions for the next stage of baseball betting analysis.
