2026 MLB Division Series: Brewers, Rays and White Sox lead 2-0; Dodgers-Braves tied 1-1 before NLDS Game 3

Last updated: October 6, 2026 | Odds checked: October 6, 2026, 7:00 a.m. ET

Milwaukee is one win from the National League Championship Series after taking both opening games against San Diego. Tampa Bay and Chicago won Game 2 on Monday and now lead 2-0 as well, while Atlanta’s response against the Dodgers leaves that series tied heading to Truist Park.

The first six Division Series games, played October 3–4, highlighted the importance of starting pitching and late-inning execution. The MLB hub provides the broader baseball picture, while MLB picks and predictions focus on individual matchups.

The National League returns tonight, October 6, with Atlanta looking to build on its split in Los Angeles and San Diego facing elimination. The American League resumes with Game 3 on October 7.

All game times are Eastern. Each upcoming matchup is Game 3.

The series are best-of-five. Milwaukee, Tampa Bay and Chicago need one more victory; San Diego, New York and Cleveland must win three straight. Atlanta and Los Angeles are guaranteed Games 3 and 4, with a fifth game required only if they split the next two.

Game 1 Best Bet and October 5 Lean: Graded

The Game 1 best bet was Atlanta to win. It lost when the Dodgers prevailed 5-3 behind six strong innings from Tarik Skubal and home runs from Teoscar Hernández, Kyle Tucker and Max Muncy.

Atlanta scored on a Sean Murphy solo homer and a two-run Ozzie Albies homer in the ninth. The late rally narrowed the deficit without changing the result.

This article’s best-bet record remains 0-1. Atlanta’s subsequent Game 2 victory does not change the grading of the original selection.

The low-confidence Tampa Bay lean for October 5 won when the Rays defeated New York 5-2. The lean record is 1-0, tracked separately from best bets.

October 6 Outlook: No Best Bet

The two National League matchups present different challenges. Atlanta and Los Angeles turn to Chris Sale and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in an even series. San Diego sends Nick Pivetta to the mound with its season at stake, while Milwaukee gives Dustin May an opportunity to finish the series.

Brewers at Padres, 9:30 p.m.SD -136 / MIL +1137Not yet available

No best bet or lean is assigned to either game. The pitching matchup keeps Braves-Dodgers competitive, while the Padres’ elimination situation does not establish an advantage by itself. San Diego still needs to execute against a Milwaukee team that has found ways to win both close games.

Series Previews

Yankees vs. Rays

Tampa Bay has won through two different approaches: dominant starting pitching in Game 1 and sustained offensive pressure in Game 2.

Drew Rasmussen carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning of the opener, striking out 10 and walking two. Austin Wells supplied New York’s only hit, a double, but was thrown out trying to reach third. Jonathan Aranda’s solo homer off Gerrit Cole accounted for the scoring in the 1-0 victory.

The Rays followed with a 5-2 win as New York committed four errors, including three in the first inning. Richie Palacios’ two-run single capped a four-run fifth. Freddy Peralta allowed one run across 4⅔ innings, and Bryan Baker pitched a perfect ninth for his second consecutive save. Ben Rice’s two solo home runs produced both Yankees runs.

Game 3 moves to Yankee Stadium on October 7 at 8:00 p.m., with Max Fried starting for New York against Nick Martinez, who finished the regular season 15-6 with a 3.10 ERA.

The Yankees need more than a change of venue. Their offense must generate opportunities beyond isolated home runs, and their defense cannot continue extending innings. Tampa Bay can advance by maintaining the combination of contact, pitching and execution that decided the first two games.

White Sox vs. Guardians

Chicago followed its Game 1 shutout with a comeback, taking both games at Progressive Field and earning a chance to finish the series at home.

The White Sox won the opener 3-0 while limiting Cleveland to three hits. Munetaka Murakami hit a two-run homer, Colson Montgomery added an RBI double, and Grant Taylor completed a four-inning save with six strikeouts.

Cleveland scored twice in the first inning of Game 2, but Sean Burke stabilized Chicago’s pitching with 5⅓ innings of one-hit relief and six strikeouts. Braden Montgomery’s two-run double in the sixth put the White Sox ahead, and Taylor secured his second save in the 4-3 victory. Gavin Williams struck out 11 for Cleveland, but the Guardians could not preserve their early lead.

Game 3 is scheduled for October 7 at 4:00 p.m. at Rate Field. Chicago will open with Sean Newcomb; Cleveland’s starter remains unannounced.

The Guardians need both offensive production and reliable relief pitching to extend the series. Chicago has already shown it can win a low-scoring game or recover from an early deficit, giving it more than one route to the clinching victory.

Braves vs. Dodgers

Atlanta’s 3-2 Game 2 victory restored an even series and ensured two games at Truist Park.

Ray Kerr opened with 2⅔ scoreless innings, Didier Fuentes allowed one run across 3⅔ innings, and Raisel Iglesias recorded the final out for the save. Michael Harris II contributed a triple and an RBI double, then scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Game 3 takes place October 6 at 6:00 p.m. Chris Sale starts for Atlanta opposite Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Sale finished the regular season with a 2.16 ERA, while Yamamoto posted a 2.53 ERA.

Atlanta’s home field matters, but the starting-pitching matchup leaves little room to assume a decisive advantage. Both offenses must capitalize when opportunities arise rather than rely on repeated rallies.

The winner will move one victory from advancing. The loser will face elimination in Game 4, making the ability to support the starter and preserve a late lead especially important.

Padres vs. Brewers

Milwaukee won both opening games by one run, leaving San Diego with no margin for another defeat.

Jacob Misiorowski covered four innings in Game 1 before the Brewers’ bullpen completed a 3-2 victory. Game 2 ended on Jackson Chourio’s two-out, two-run single against Mason Miller in the bottom of the ninth, turning a possible series split into a 2-0 Milwaukee lead.

Game 3 is scheduled for October 6 at 9:30 p.m. at Petco Park. Dustin May starts for Milwaukee against Nick Pivetta. May finished the regular season 7-9 with a 4.70 ERA; Pivetta went 3-2 with a 2.86 ERA.

The narrow results show that San Diego has remained competitive, but protecting a lead is now essential. Milwaukee needs one more complete performance; the Padres need three consecutive wins, beginning with a game in which every missed opportunity could end their season.

MLB Handicappers to Watch

The handicapper leaderboard separates baseball performance from overall results. That distinction matters during the postseason: a strong record across several sports does not necessarily describe a handicapper’s MLB performance.

The following records cover the fixed 30-day period from September 5 through October 4, 2026. They do not include the October 5 Division Series games.

Pro Picks - Ben has the largest sample and highest net profit among these five handicappers. Mike Kelly has the highest ROI, while Jimmy Liu has the highest win rate. Those measures describe different aspects of performance and should be read alongside the number of picks.

Liu’s 80.0% win rate comes from 15 selections; Kelly’s 42.5% ROI comes from 21. Both reflect productive stretches, but the smaller samples make them more sensitive to individual results.

Each upcoming selection still needs a matchup-specific case. Starting pitching, bullpen availability and offensive execution carry more weight than assuming a recent winning run will continue.

Milwaukee, Tampa Bay and Chicago share the same immediate objective: one more victory to advance. Atlanta and Los Angeles remain in a contest that could go the distance. Those contrasting positions shape the postseason coverage in the blog, with the next games determining whether the bracket narrows quickly or the trailing teams force a longer series.
