Dodgers deal OF Manuel Margot to Twins, sign INF/OF Enrique Hernandez

Updated:

The Minnesota Twins acquired veteran outfielder Manuel Margot from the Los Angeles Dodgers, along with minor league infielder Rayne Doncon and cash, in exchange for minor league infielder Noah Miller on Monday.

Following the move, the Dodgers brought back free agent infielder/outfielder Enrique Hernandez on a one-year deal. Multiple reports said the contract was worth $4 million.

Margot, 29, is in the second year of a two-year deal worth $19 million with a team option for 2025.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Margot played his first four seasons (2016-19) with the San Diego Padres and is now in his fourth season with the Tampa Bay Rays.

Margot joined the Dodgers via a trade during this past offseason, arriving with right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow and cash in exchange for outfielder Jonny DeLuca and right-hander Ryan Pepiot.

Compiling a career slash line of .255/.309/.385, Margot has 91 stolen bases to complement his 52 home runs and 283 RBIs over 788 regular-season games.

Margot hit .316 in six games during the 2020 World Series against the Dodgers, following a breakout American League Championship Series during which he hit three home runs against the Houston Astros.

Doncon, 20, hit .216 with 14 homers and 52 RBIs in 107 games for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga in 2023. Per MLB.com, Doncon was the Dodgers’ No. 23 prospect.

Miller, 21, was a first-round pick (No. 36 overall) by the Twins in 2021. He has yet to rise above High A in his three professional seasons.

Hernandez, 32, played for the Dodgers from 2015-20 before signing with the Boston Red Sox in 2021. He was dealt back to Los Angeles before the 2023 trade deadline. In 54 games for the Dodgers last season, Hernandez batted .262 with five homers, 12 doubles and 30 RBIs, adding three hits and two RBIs in three postseason games.

Hernandez will continue to provide depth on the stacked Dodgers roster. He has slashed .257/.343/.458 against lefties during his 10-year career.
