By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model's Porto 59% rests on a 12% draw chance, while the market prices the draw near 26%.
- Porto are 10-0-0 in the Primeira Liga (25 scored, 4 conceded) but 0-0-3 in the Champions League, with 2 goals for and 6 against.
- Napoli are 8th in Serie A after a 0-2 loss at Juventus, with Lobotka out and Di Lorenzo and Olivera sent home for medical checks.
- Porto have shortened from +115 to about +100; Napoli have drifted from +210 to +265.

Porto (0-0-3 in the Champions League, a perfect 10-0-0 in the Primeira Liga) host Napoli (1-0-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 3:00 PM ET at the Estádio do Dragão, live on CBS Sports Network and Paramount+. Porto sit around +100, with Napoli near +265 and the draw near +270. The hook: the best team in Portugal is 35th of 36 in Europe, and Napoli arrive short-handed. Our call: no edge.
How these teams got here
Porto have been two different teams. At home in the league they are flawless: 10 wins from 10, 25 goals scored and 4 conceded, five points clear of Benfica. Saturday's 4-0 win over Estoril was their second straight league win since the PSV loss.
In the Champions League it has gone the other way. Porto lost 0-2 at home to Manchester City, 2-3 at Real Betis and 0-1 at home to PSV. That is 2 goals for, 6 against and zero points, and Sports Mole notes they conceded first against both City and Betis.
Napoli are 8th in Serie A at 4-2-4, already 14 points behind leaders Lazio. Their last five read like a coin toss: 0-1 at Venezia, 4-3 over Bodø/Glimt, 3-3 with Roma, 4-1 at Monza and 0-2 at Juventus on Sunday. In Europe they lost 0-1 to Arsenal and 1-3 at Villarreal before the Bodø win, which leaves them 24th on 3 points. Per Sports Mole, Napoli are winless in their last seven Champions League away games.
Rest favors the hosts: Porto played Saturday at home, while Napoli played Sunday night in Turin and trained in Porto on Tuesday.
Porto's back line vs. Napoli's midfield
This game turns on whether Porto's domestic defense travels into a European game. Goalkeeper Diogo Costa has made 14 saves in three Champions League games, a sign of how much pressure Porto have soaked up. Jakub Kiwior leads them with 159 accurate passes, and the goals have been scarce: Gabri Veiga (1 goal, 5 shots) and Samu Aghehowa (1 goal) are the only scorers listed.
Napoli's threat runs through the middle. Scott McTominay has 2 goals on 9 shots in the competition, and Matteo Politano has a goal and an assist. Kevin De Bruyne came off at halftime in Turin with an ankle problem, but he trained with the group on Tuesday; Sports Mole calls it a slight sprain and expects his 86th Champions League appearance. Rasmus Højlund (5 shots), who missed time with the flu, also trained with the team on Tuesday.
Napoli's injury list is the real story
Napoli are thin at the back. Stanislav Lobotka is out with an ankle injury, taking away the midfield's metronome. Alessandro Buongiorno, Leonardo Spinazzola and David Neres are also unavailable. Captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo went off at halftime at Juventus with a muscular problem, and the club sent him and Mathias Olivera back to Naples for medical checks. If both miss out, Napoli face an in-form attack without either of their regular fullbacks.
Porto have issues too, but smaller ones. William Gomes and Chris Smalling are out, and Oskar Pietuszewski is doubtful with a minor thigh problem. Sports Mole adds that Zaidu limped off at halftime on Saturday with a knee issue, which would hit the left-back spot.
How the line has moved
The market has come toward Porto. They opened near +115 and now sit around +100, while Napoli have drifted from +210 to +265 and the draw from +260 to +270. On the total, the over 2.5 has firmed from -130 to -135. Napoli's injury news fits that move.
Prediction: no edge
No edge. The model makes Porto a 59% winner, Napoli 29% and the draw 12%, at low confidence. Strip the margin out of the market and you get roughly 48% / 26% / 26%. Nearly all of the model's Porto edge comes from pricing the draw at half of what the market does, and that isn't a number we trust.
- Low confidence. We only headline medium or high, and this is neither.
- The draw is underpriced by the model. A 12% draw is hard to believe when one side concedes 0.4 goals per league game and the other scores 1.7.
- The value is gone. Porto moved from +115 to about +100, so the injury news is already in the price.
- Which Porto shows up? 10-0-0 in the league, 0-0-3 in Europe. Backing either version at even money is a guess.
The swing factor is the first goal. Porto conceded first in all three European losses, and Napoli's only away game in this campaign ended 1-3 at Villarreal.
On the total, the over 2.5 at -135 fits Napoli's games (1, 4 and 7 goals in Europe), but Porto's European games have gone 2, 5 and 1, and their domestic defense says under. We'd pass there too.
