Liberty vs FIU Prediction, Picks & Odds (Oct. 31, 2026)
By SportsHub Model · Edited by Kyle Parker
The 20-second version
- No edge: the model's 82% for Liberty is at or below the 85-86% the -575 to -630 moneyline implies.
- Liberty has won five straight by 16+ points, outscoring opponents 184-55, and has thrown 0 interceptions all season.
- FIU allows just 16.3 points per game, and its four losses came by 10, 6, 3 and 3 points.
- The spread moved from Liberty -11.5 to -13.5/-14, so the value at the open is gone.

Liberty (6-1, 3-0 CUSA) hosts FIU (3-4, 1-2) at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. The Flames are 13.5- to 14-point favorites (-575 to -630 on the moneyline) after opening at -11.5. The tension: Liberty has won six straight, the last five by 16 or more, yet FIU's four losses came by a combined 22 points. Our call is no edge: the model's 82% doesn't beat the price.
How these teams got here
Liberty's season started shaky. The Flames lost 20-13 at James Madison in the opener, then needed a one-point escape against FCS Gardner-Webb (24-23). Since then it has been a different team: five straight wins by 16 or more, outscoring Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Sam Houston and Kennesaw State 184-55. The last one was a 34-6 rout at Kennesaw State on Thursday, Oct. 22, so the Flames come in on nine days of rest and a 3-0 home record. For the season they score 31.6 points per game and allow 14.0.
FIU is the harder team to read. The Panthers have dropped two straight by three points each: 27-24 at Jacksonville State on Oct. 13 and 26-23 at home to Middle Tennessee on Oct. 20. They are 0-3 on the road, scoring 9, 10 and 24 points in those games. Their defense is real, though: 16.3 points allowed per game, and no opponent has scored more than 27 on them. They also have 11 days of rest since the Middle Tennessee loss.
There is a revenge angle here, too. FIU won the last meeting 34-27 in overtime in Miami on Nov. 15, 2025, sealing it with four straight stops and an interception on the final play.
Liberty's run game vs. FIU's defense
This is a ground-and-pound Liberty team. The Flames have 1,553 rushing yards (221.9 per game) and 15 rushing touchdowns at 5.3 yards per carry. Kam Davis leads with 583 yards on 83 carries, a 7.0-yard average, and five scores. Peyton Jones (306 yards) and Jaylon Coleman (260) give them depth.
Quarterback Deshawn Purdie doesn't have to carry the load, and he hasn't hurt them: 80-of-133 for 1,226 yards, 9 TDs and 0 interceptions. As a team, Liberty hasn't thrown a pick in 150 attempts. In his last start, at Kennesaw State, Purdie went 10-for-19 for 176 yards and a touchdown.
FIU's offense runs through the air. JJ Kohl is 131-of-227 for 1,637 yards with 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions, and Maguire Anderson (36 catches, 568 yards, 4 TDs) is his top target. The run game is thin: 126.9 yards per game, with Devonte Lyons at 383 yards on 84 carries (4.6 per carry).
That turnover gap, 0 interceptions thrown vs. 8, is the cleanest edge on the board. Liberty's defense has seven picks of its own, and linebacker Derrell Farrar leads the team with 39 tackles.
Availability
Conference USA's availability report for Saturday games had not been released when this was written, and neither team had a confirmed absence among its starters. Purdie and the Liberty backfield all played against Kennesaw State. Kohl has thrown 227 of FIU's 243 passes, so any change at quarterback would move this line. Check the conference report before kickoff.
How the line has moved
The market has gone one way. Liberty opened at -11.5 with a 44.5 total and a -425 moneyline. Within hours it was -14, touched -14.5 on Oct. 26, and now sits at -13.5 to -14, with the moneyline at -575 to -630. The total has drifted from 44.5 to 45-45.5. Whatever value Liberty had at the opener is gone.
Prediction: no edge on Liberty vs FIU
No edge. Liberty is the better team, but the number already knows it.
- The model is at the price. It gives Liberty 82%. The moneyline implies 85-86% at -575 to -630, or about 82-83% once the vig is removed. ESPN's matchup predictor is even higher on the Flames at 87.8%.
- Liberty's form says lay it. Its last five wins came by an average of 25.8 points, and the 0-vs-8 interception split favors the Flames.
- FIU's defense says take it. The Panthers allow 16.3 points per game, and their losses came by 10, 6, 3 and 3 points.
- The road is FIU's problem. The Panthers are 0-3 away and average 14.3 points there, which is how a 14-point spread gets covered.
- The 2.5-point move took the value. At -11.5 there was a case; at -14 there isn't one.
Swing factor: Kohl's eight interceptions. Two more on Saturday and this becomes the blowout Liberty's last five games looked like; a clean game from him keeps FIU inside the number.
The total: at 45-45.5, the under is the more interesting side. FIU's games average 36.4 combined points, while Liberty's average 45.6. It's a lean, not a play.
