The third round of fixtures in the English Premier League is on the horizon, meaning it’s time to lock in your Matchday 3 picks.

We may only be a couple of weeks into the season, but the EPL has already served up more than its fair share of incredible goals, high-scoring games, shock results and upsets. Hopefully, Matchday 3 follows suit!

You can find my recommended Matchday 3 picks and predictions towards the end of this article. Before we go any further, though, let’s recap last weekend’s action and assess the EPL odds.

Matchday 2 Premier League Review

Prior to locking in your Matchday 3 picks, it makes sense to analyze the results from Matchday 2. After all, we can learn a lot about form, scoring trends and other useful stats by evaluating recent results.

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHDAY 2 RESULTS

  • Nottingham Forest 2-1 Sheffield United
  • Liverpool 3-1 Bournemouth
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-4 Brighton & Hove Albion
  • Fulham 0-3 Brentford
  • Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 Manchester United
  • Manchester City 1-0 Newcastle United
  • Aston Villa 4-0 Everton
  • West Ham United 3-1 Chelsea
  • Crystal Palace 0-1 Arsenal

Interestingly, there were no draws in the Premier League last weekend. Nottingham Forest, Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, Aston Villa and West Ham triumphed on home soil, while Brighton, Brentford and Arsenal won on the road.

Five teams – Liverpool, Brighton, Brentford, Villa and West Ham – scored over 2.5 goals. At the opposite end of the pitch, Brentford, Tottenham, Man City, Villa and Arsenal kept a clean sheet.

Premier League Odds and Fixtures for Matchday 3

Before you dive into my Matchday 3 Picks and predictions, we need to look at the bookies’ Premier League odds for this weekend.

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHDAY 3 ODDS

  • Chelsea (-455) vs. Luton Town (+1000)
  • Arsenal (-476) vs. Fulham (+1000)
  • Bournemouth (+249) vs. Tottenham Hotspur (-109)
  • Brentford (-102) vs. Crystal Palace (+258)
  • Manchester United (-333) vs. Nottingham Forest (+700)
  • Everton (+126) vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers (+205)
  • Brighton & Hove Albion (-200) vs. West Ham United (+420)
  • Newcastle United (+115) vs. Liverpool (+186)
  • Burnley (+225) vs. Aston Villa (+108)
  • Sheffield United (+1300) vs. Manchester City (-588)

Chelsea, Arsenal, Brentford, Man Utd and Brighton are the heavy home favorites this weekend, while Everton and Newcastle are also favored to win on home soil.

In the eyes of the bookies, the only away favorites are Tottenham, Aston Villa and Man City. The Cityzens have an easy fixture against newly-promoted Sheffield United, with Spurs and Villa visiting Bournemouth and Burnley, respectively.

Right, it’s time for me to provide my Matchday 3 picks.

Top Premier League Matchday 3 Picks

There are 10 Premier League games taking place this weekend, meaning there is no shortage of EPL betting opportunities on offer. I have decided to take an in-depth look at three standout clashes for my Matchday 3 picks.

When it comes to betting on the Premier League, it’s all about finding the best value. Teams like Man City and Arsenal tend to dominate their opponents on a weekly basis, so you need to dive deeper into the odds and explore the different markets.

My Matchday 3 picks and predictions concern Chelsea vs. Luton, Brighton vs. West Ham and Newcastle vs. Liverpool. Ready? Let’s go!

Chelsea vs. Luton Town Prediction

It is no secret that Chelsea has overseen a host of arrivals and departures during the summer transfer window. Key performers like Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic have left the club, but exciting players such as Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Nicolas Jackson have arrived.

On the flip side, Luton Town gained promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs last season. While the Hatters have spent less than €20 million on new players this summer, the Blues have forked out almost €400 million.

Luton experienced a baptism of fire on the opening weekend, suffering a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Brighton. With that in mind, I’m backing Mauricio Pochettino’s men to kick-start their season with a high-scoring victory at Stamford Bridge.

Best Bet: Chelsea Over 2.5 Goals (-107)

Brighton & Hove Albion vs. West Ham United Prediction

As I just mentioned, Brighton ran riot on the opening weekend, putting four past Luton. Remarkably, the Seagulls added another four goals to their tally last time out, notching a dominant 4-1 win against Wolves.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men have started the season in excellent form. Solly March has already scored two goals in three games, while Kaoru Mitoma and Pervis Estupinan have both chalked up one goal and two assists so far.

That said, West Ham heads into Matchday 3 on the back of an impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea. The Hammers will be full of confidence after dispatching the Blues, but they could struggle to contain Brighton at the Amex.

Newcastle United vs. Liverpool Prediction

This clash promises to be one of the most exciting games of the weekend. Last season, fourth-placed Newcastle finished just four points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, highlighting the closeness in quality of the two sides.

The Magpies kicked off their campaign with a thumping 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa before losing 1-0 to Man City last time out. Meanwhile, Liverpool drew 1-1 with Chelsea on the opening weekend before defeating Bournemouth 3-1.

Newcastle is priced at +115 to claim all three points on Sunday, while Jurgen Klopp’s side is priced at +186. For that reason, I recommend steering clear of the moneyline and exploring the goal markets instead.
