Round 1 of the Phoenix Open will begin today at Scottsdale TPC in Scottsdale, Arizona. The world’s No. 1-ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler, is the overall favorite at +450 to win the event. He’s no stranger to the event. Scheffler won the Phoenix Open just last year. The Phoenix Open will take place over the next four days with the final round of the tournament set for Sunday.

Starting on the same day as the NBA’s trade deadline, the Phoenix Open is one of the most popular tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule. It started 92 years ago at the Phoenix Country Club. The Phoenix Open was moved to its current home, the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale, in 1987. Interestingly, since 1973, the Phoenix Open has been played on the weekend of the Super Bowl. Super Bowl LVIII is this Sunday and Sports Hub has more interesting content for you on this year’s game. Check out this article comparing the Chiefs and 49ers Super Bowls

Phoenix Open Preview

If you’re not betting on golf, you should consider doing so. There is great potential to add big money to your bankroll. The most popular bet, of course, is a wager on a golfer to win a tournament. For example, a $100 bet on Scheffler to win the Phoenix Open again in 2024 would pay out $450. The other favorites in the event – Justin Thomas and Max Homa – both are given odds of +1000 or greater. That’s typical of golf tournaments. Bettors can find great value at the top of a betting board.

Now, picking a tournament winner can be difficult, but there are tons of other golf bets. They may not offer those types of odds, but they can still be lucrative. Consider a bet on the Phoenix Open Top 20. You can bet on a player to finish in the Top 5, 10, or 20. This year, you can get Billy Horschel at +375 to finish in the Top 20. Horschel has finished in the Top 10 at the Phoenix Open in two of the last four years and three times overall. Speaking of Top 10 bets, you could grab Scheffler at odds of -143.

Golf is great because you can find awesome longshot opportunities. If you’re looking for one in the Phoenix Open, there are several. Wyndham Clark won last weekend’s shortened AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Clark is listed at +3000 to win the Phoenix Open. Thomas Detry is another longshot at +6000. Don’t forget about head-to-head golf bets. It’s just like betting on an NFL or NBA game. Sports Hub expert Logan Wilson has a head-to-head Phoenix Open pick in our database already. Check it out.

Smokin’ Joe Berra Leads the Pack Yesterday

It was another great day for Sports Hub handicappers, especially Joe Berra. Joe went 5-1 yesterday and won $390 to lead all of our handicappers yesterday. He was one of four Sports Hub exclusive cappers among yesterday’s Top 5. Those four SportsHub handicappers went a combined 16-2. Yesterday was just one more example of why every bettor needs a Sports Hub membership. That’s the only way you get access to these great handicappers.

Let’s look at yesterday’s board.

Joe Berra was yesterday’s top capper
  • Smokin’ Joe: As mentioned, Joe Berra was our leader yesterday, hitting five of his six picks and winning $390. Joe’s love is hockey and he did hit his only NHL pick last night. He also hit both college basketball picks and went 3-1 in the NBA. Joe is now third on our 7-day hockey leaderboard.
  • Scott Wetzel: The only non-Sports Hub exclusive capper in yesterday’s Top 5 was Scott. He went 3-0 and earned $300. Scott is now up $1240 over the last 30 days.
  • Mike Hawk: Mike, not to be confused with his cousin Mike Hunt, made just two picks yesterday. Both were on the same NBA game. Mike bet on New Orleans to cover the 6-point spread against the red-hot Los Angeles Clippers. He also wagered on the Pelicans to beat LA. Mike won both bets and pocketed $292. That puts him up $690 for the week.
  • Jhon Walsh: Jhon correctly predicted four of his five picks yesterday. That earned him $290 and the fourth spot on yesterday’s leaderboard.
  • Neal Harris: Neal went 2-0 yesterday and added $200 to his bankroll. Neal has been sharp this week with $300 earned over the last three days and $685 for the last seven. Neal is 9-2 over the last seven days.

What’s Happening in Sports

The NBA’s much-awaited trade deadline is today. Today also marks the start of the Phoenix Open. We are getting closer to Super Bowl LVIII. Sports Hub’s experts have been working hard bringing you great content as well as outstanding betting tips for Sunday’s game. Stay tuned to SportsHub for more on the big game.

Let’s look at what’s trending in sports.

  • NBA trade deadline today: The NBA trade deadline is today at 3:00 p.m. ET. Any trades must be into the league office for approval by then. Otherwise, they are null and void. The Celtics acquired Xavier Tillman from Memphis and Minnesota got Monte Morris from the Pistons yesterday. More trades are likely to happen today.
  • Phoenix Open: The first golfers hit the tee at 9:20 a.m. ET this morning. There are golf picks available in our picks database. Members can check them out throughout the day and throughout the duration of the Phoenix Open.
  • NFL wants grass: The NFL Players Association revealed that 92 percent of players prefer playing on grass rather than artificial turf. Of the 32 stadiums in the NFL, only 13 feature grass playing surfaces. There are seven more that will switch to grass since they are being used for the 2026 World Cup.
  • Super Bowl bets: A Michigan bettor just put down $1 million on San Francisco to win Super Bowl LVIII at -120. The same bettor dropped $200K on Brock Purdy to win the game’s MVP at +240 odds. Only nine times has a safety ever been recorded in the Super Bowl. One bettor could win $1 million on a $100 bet if it happens Sunday. The most outlandish wager so far just might be $2K on Chase Young to win the Super Bowl MVP. The payout would be $600K.
