Hockey’s Grand Salami is one of the game’s most interesting bets. It allows bettors to place a wager on all of the games on a given day’s hockey schedule. For example, you will see that later tonight there are eight games on the NHL schedule. Edmonton plays at Vegas to see if they can tie the Pittsburgh Penguins for the longest winning streak in league history. You could easily place a wager on that game. Or, you could place a Grand Salami bet and wager on all eight games.

The NHL Grand Salami is not a sandwich

The Grand Salami bet is simply one giant totals bet. You wager on the Over/Under for all NHL games on a given day. For example, today’s Grand Salami total is set at 51.5. On January 16, there were eight NHL games like there are tonight. The Grand Salami was set at the exact same total – 51.5. Colorado beat Ottawa 7-4 that night, which is a lot of goals for an NHL game. However, when you added up all the goals scored on Jan. 16, the total was 46. If you had bet the Under 51.5, you would have been a winner.

Keys to Betting the Grand Salami

So, how exactly do you go about betting the Grand Salami? It’s a unique bet. Unlike NBA first half bets, it’s more of a fun wager than something you would seriously consider betting every night. Still, you’d much rather win than the alternative. There are a few key things to consider before betting the Grand Salami.

It all starts with goaltenders. Anytime you think about placing a Grand Salami bet, look at which goaltenders are starting on that day. If there are a number of backups playing, you might consider the Over. Other key factors include rest and injuries. Hockey is a physical and very demanding sport. Teams can play on back-to-back nights sometimes and on other occasions may have three or even four nights off before playing again.

Betting the Grand Salami begins with goalie play

If Connor McDavid and Leon Draisatl were out of the lineup for Edmonton and a few other key players were out for other teams on the schedule, that would have a huge impact on how you would bet the Grand Salami. You can also look at trend data to examine things like how certain teams have performed against different goalies historically. Goals per game and goals against average are stats to consider before betting the Grand Salami.

It’s also worth noting that the Grand Salami bet can be difficult to find sometimes. Not all sportsbooks offer the Grand Salami on a daily basis. Those that do will often also offer props like Home Team and Away Team goals. In those bets, you wager on the Over/Under for all of the home teams on the schedule. Some sportsbooks will also offer Grand Salami bets by period, i.e. First Period Grand Salami, Second Period Grand Salami, etc.

Sports Hub Veteran Cranks Out the Wins

Veteran handicapper Sal Lombardi continues to churn out win after win. He’s on top of so many of our leaderboards, it’s hard to keep track. Yesterday, Sal was at it again and ended up as our overall leader. He’s on top or at least in the top-3 on all of our time-related leaderboards. We’ll talk more about that momentarily.

Yesterday’s top-5 was once again dominated by Sports Hub expert handicappers. Guys like William Taylor, Coach Rick, and James Acker all won at least $300 yesterday. It’s these winning handicappers that are the reason why all sports bettors should have a Sports Hub membership. Yes, I said it again…but that’s because I only say things that are important.

Let’s look at yesterday’s leaderboard.

NHL Grand Salami - The Extra Totals Bet - February 6
Sal is still killing it!
  • Sal rules: Yesterday, Sal put seven picks into our system. He went 6-1 and won $515. That puts him No. 2 on the 7-day leaderboard with $945 in winnings. He’s also No. 2 on the 14-day leaderboard ($2040). Sal is the overall leader on our 30-day board with $3890 earned, which is $1500 more than his closest competitor. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be tailing Sal again tonight.
  • Madjack & William: We like when our partners in crime do well. That happened last night as Madjack Sports went 4-0 and earned $400. Sports Hub expert William Taylor did the same…4-0 and $400.
  • Coach Rick & James: After Madjack Sports and William Taylor, Coach Rick and James Acker each went 3-0. The Coach edged out James on the leaderboard with $315 in winnings compared to James’ $300. The Coach nailed Golden State at +115 to beat Brooklyn on the road last night. That makes it 5-0 for Coach Rick over the last two days.

CBB Upset, NFL International Game & More

Yesterday, there was one AP Top 25-ranked college basketball team in action. That was No. 4 Kansas. Read on to see how the Jayhawks fared last night in a rivalry game with Kansas State. The NFL announced that it will play a regular season game in…wait for it…Brazil. Why Brazil? Who knows, but one of the teams has already been announced.

Let’s see what all is trending.

  • Upset city: No. 4 Kansas lit up then-No. 4 Houston on Saturday, beating the Cougars 78-65. It was the most points allowed by Houston all season. It was a huge Big 12 win for the Jayhawks, who had to turn around and play at in-state rival Kansas State last night. The quick turnaround plus the huge win was the perfect recipe for a letdown. The Wildcats (15-8, 5-5) scored a 75-70 upset of Kansas last night.
  • Eagles fly to Brazil: The Philadelphia Eagles will be one of the NFL teams that will open the 2024 season in Sao Paolo, Brazil, on Sept. 6. The other team will be announced later. The game will take place one day after the 2024 NFL season begins on Thursday, Sept. 5.
  • Mo’ money: Americans are expected to wager $23.1 billion on Super Bowl LVIII. Roughly 26 percent of the adult population (approximately 67 million) is expected to place bets on Sundays’ game. Those numbers are up significantly compared to last year.

NHL Grand Salami on Deck Today

You could take a crack at the Grand Salami today. The NHL is getting back in the groove after it’s All-Star break last week. There were just two games last night, the first night back after the break. Both New York teams won last night. There is plenty of other action tonight too, including a big slate in college basketball.

Let’s take a look.

  1. NHL: As mentioned already, there are eight games on the NHL schedule. You could wager on the Grand Salami, which has a total of 51.5 with even-money (+100) odds. All eyes will be on that Edmonton-Vegas game to see if the Oilers can tie the record for longest winning streak.
  1. NBA: It’s TNT Tuesday in the NBA where there are seven games on tap. Dallas is at Brooklyn in the first game of the TNT doubleheader. Dallas beat Philly last night and the Nets lost to the Warriors on Monday. Game 2 of the doubleheader is a rematch of the 2021 NBA Finals – Milwaukee at Phoenix.
  2. College basketball: Thirteen of the AP Top 25 teams are in action tonight. The only matchup of ranked teams takes place in the Big 12 where No. 23 Texas Tech plays No. 13 Baylor. No. 1 UConn hosts Butler in the Big East.
  3. Soccer: All of the world’s top soccer leagues are off today, but there is plenty of action today. There are three matches in the English FA Cup. English League One, Two, and the National League are all in action today.
  4. Tennis: On the WTA Tour, the Cordoba Open continues today in Argentina. The Open 13 Provence and Dallas Open are both underway too. On the women’s tour, three more tournaments – L&T Mumbai Open, Transylvania Open, Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open – continue today.
