Bookies Continue to Cash In – February 28

It’s been a great February for bookies. It started with the sporting event that draws the most betting action in the U.S. – the Super Bowl. Bookies reportedly took in around $23.5 billion in bets on Super Bowl LVIII. Vegas bookies reported profits of $6.8 million, which was up from $4.3 million in 2023. Interestingly, the previous six Super Bowls combined netted about $10 million in profits. Bookies can see where the big game is headed.

Super Bowl LVIII set records in the betting industry

Bookies would have made more on the last two Super Bowls, if not for the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs became the first team to go back-to-back since the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots. Kansas City beat San Francisco this year and Philadelphia a year ago. In each Super Bowl, the Chiefs were the underdog. That cut into the bookies’ profits.

Bookies Making Bank in NCAAB

With the exception of Kansas last night, bookies made some serious coin on college basketball last night. There were six games featuring ranked opponents last night. All of the public favorites won except No. 7 Kansas, which lost 76-68 to Big 12 opponent BYU. Bookies had set the Cougars as a +290 moneyline underdog, but BYU ended up pulling a rare upset at Allen Fieldhouse.

Bookies are definitely excited as we close the month of February. That means that March is right around the corner. It will soon be time for March Madness! Last year’s NCAA tournament marked a significant uptick in action for bookies. It was reported that the 2023 edition of March Madness saw over $15 billion wagered. Bookies expect that number to go up even further in 2024. Selection Sunday is March 17 and the 2024 NCAA tournament begins on March 19.

The Coach Beats the Bookies

Coach Rick continues to blow his whistle to the tune of wins…lots of them. Yesterday, the Coach was the top handicapper on the daily leaderboard. He coached his way to eight wins in his ten total picks.

If you think 10 picks in one night is a lot, how about our buddies at Knup Sports? They continue to pour in the predictions, putting a whopping 30 picks into the Sports Hub picks database yesterday. Even better, the Knup boys hit on 20 of them!

The Coach got it done yesterday

Let’s look at yesterday’s leaderboard.

  • Coach ‘em up: The Coach called them out last night. Eight wins. A nice mix of NBA, NHL and college basketball picks for the Coach. When it was all said and done, Coach Rick added $660 to his bankroll. The Coach has been coaching bookies all week long with a 27-16 record over the last seven days and $1008 in winnings. Coach’s stellar performance this week has moved him into the Top-3 on the coveted 30-day leaderboard. He’s now third with $1915 in winnings.
  • Killing it: After an $870 day, what does Knup Sports do for an encore? They beat up the bookies again. Yes, 30 picks last night. The Knup crew went 20-10 and added another $555 to the change purse. For those keeping track, that’s $2045 over just the last three days! Knup is now No. 1 on that 30-day leaderboard, up $2609 for the last 30 days.

The last 7 days have been good too our cappers
  • Big Ben returns: Remember Ben Miller? He’s another strong Sports Hub expert with outstanding numbers over the last few years. Yesterday, Ben hit all five of his picks to win $500. He’ll be a guy to watch in our MLB handicapper contest. Yesterday, he nailed down the Tampa Bay Rays over the New York Yankees in a spring training game.
  • Tonny BBall: They’re gonna start calling him “Tonny BBall” or “Tonny Hoops” if he keeps this up. Yesterday, Tonny Ricci crushed the bookies on five basketball picks – three NCAAB picks and two NBA picks. With another $500 added to the bankroll, Tonny is now up $1008 for the week. He’s also our No. 2 basketball handicapper over the last seven days having earned $1160 on his hoops picks.
  • Blatt: As in Bill Blatt, as in Bill Blatt smoked some bookies last night to the tune of $302. Over the last two days, Bill is 7-2 on nine picks. Is a streak coming for the big guy?

  • Chiefs franchise tag: The Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are expected to place the franchise tag on L’Jarius Sneed. The Chiefs CB is okay with that as it will allow him to explore the free agent market. The tag would be worth about $19 million. Sneed could work out a new deal with the Chiefs or, since he’s a free agent, shop around the league in hopes of making more.
  • Kansas streak ends: One thing about Rock, Chalk, Jayhawk. Kansas wins at Phog Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks had won 19 in a row at home until BYU came to town last night. Kansas lost 76-68 to fall to 21-7 overall and 9-6 in Big 12 play. The Jayhawks have just one home game remaining this season. It’s with in-state rival Kansas State (17-11), who beat Kansas earlier this season.
  • Everything’s bigger in Texas: The Texas Longhorns beat Texas Tech in a Big 12 matchup last night, 81-69. Winning in Lubbock doesn’t happen often. The Red Raiders (19-9) are now 14-2 at home this season. At the end of the game, Texas Tech fans weren’t too happy. Near the end of the game, fans were throwing water bottles and more onto the court.
  • CP3 back in the lineup: Golden State welcomed Chris Paul back into the lineup last night. Paul came off the bench to play 22 minutes. He scored nine points and dished out six assists as the Warriors beat Washington 123-112 on the road.
