Breaking Down the Monday Night Football Schedule for 2023

There are 23 games that’ll use the “Monday Night Football” branding on the 2023 NFL schedule.

A total of 19 games will be played on Monday night. Four of the MNF-branded games will be played on the weekend. Those games include a Week 4 matchup between the Falcons vs. Jaguars in London on Sunday, a Week 17 game between the Lions vs. Cowboys on Saturday, and two Week 18 matchups on Saturday (Teams TBA). The final game on Monday night is on Christmas Day (Week 16).

There’s a Christmas Day tripleheader, but only the Ravens vs. 49ers game is using MNF branding.

The Monday Night Football schedule is loaded this season. Only four teams (Cardinals, Commanders, Colts, and Texans) won’t play on MNF in 2023. Out of the teams to compete in last season’s NFL playoffs, all of them will play twice on MNF except for the Dolphins, Buccaneers, and Seahawks.

There are four MNF-branded doubleheaders (Weeks 2, 3, 14, and 18).

Best Monday Night Football Picks – Eagles vs. Buccaneers

The Philadelphia Eagles (2-0 / 1-0-1 ATS) play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0 / 2-0 ATS) in the opening game on MNF Week 3. Here are my best Monday Night Football picks for the Eagles and Buccaneers.

Best Point Spread Pick: Tampa Bay Buccaneers +5 (-110)

Tampa Bay is exceeding expectations with Baker Mayfield. The Bucs are averaging 23.5 PPG (16th), 243.0 PYPG (9th), and 96.5 RYPG (19th) on offense. Mike Evans has 12 receptions for 237 yards and 2 TDs to begin the season. Mayfield hasn’t thrown an interception, and the Bucs’ defense is solid.

Philadelphia’s offense has relied on the run game (178.0 RYPG – 2nd), but the Buccaneers are allowing 54.0 RYPG (2nd). The Eagle’s passing attack has struggled (162.5 PYPG – 29th), but the Bucs passing defense can be exploited (248.5 PYPG – 24th). A.J. Brown needs to have a big game.

The Eagles defense has been terrible against the pass (326.0 PYPG – 31st). It’s going to be challenging to cover this point spread on the road when the Bucs should have success airing it out.

Best Game Total Pick: Under 46 Points (-110)

Philadelphia is scoring 29.5 PPG (5th), but the run game won’t have it easy this week. The Buccaneers are allowing 17.0 PPG (T8), and the Eagles are allowing 24.0 PPG (16th). The Eagles have gone over in both games, while the Bucs have an over/under record of 1-1 to start the season.

The public is going to hammer them over on their Monday Night Football picks based on how many points Philly is scoring, but that’s a mistake. This Buccaneers defense is legit. They’re averaging 4.0 sacks per game (T5), and Jalen Hurts has already been sacked seven times this season.

Tampa Bay has a +2.5 turnover margin per game (2nd). Philly ranks third at +2.0 to start the season. As long as turnovers aren’t returned for touchdowns, I expect this game to be close and low-scoring.

Best Player Props Pick: Mike Evans Over 54.5 Receiving Yards (-115)

This line feels way too low. Evans leads the Buccaneers in targets (18), receptions (12), receiving yards (237) and 20+ yard receptions (5). Evans had 66 receiving yards in Week 1 and 171 receiving yards in Week 2. I expect him to have 100+ receiving yards against the Eagle’s weak secondary.

TB should air it out all game, as the Eagles are great at stopping the run (52.0 RYPG – 1st).

Best Game Prop Pick: Largest Lead Under 14.5 Points (-115)

If the game plays out how I expect, this game prop will easily cash. I’m not expecting a lot of points to be scored, and therefore, I doubt any team will be able to build a 15+ point lead in this MNF matchup.

Best Monday Night Football Picks – Rams vs. Bengals

The Los Angeles Rams (2-0 / 2-0 ATS) and Cincinnati Bengals (0-2 / 0-2 ATS) play on MNF Week 3 in what should be a great game. Let’s jump into my Monday Night Football picks for this matchup.

Best Point Spread Pick: Los Angeles Rams +3 (-110)

Matthew Stafford is having a great start to the season despite being without Cooper Kupp. Kupp will stay sidelined until at least Week 5. The Rams offense is averaging 315.5 PYPG (3rd), 90.5 RYPG (23rd) and 26.5 PPG (9th). Rookie Puka Nacua has 25 receptions for 266 yards to start the season.

Cincinnati has started the season winless, with losses against division opponents. The offense played a lot better in Week 2, but still lost to Baltimore at home. The Bengals are averaging 141.5 PYPG (30th), 70.8 RYPG (28th), and 13.5 PPG (T30) on offense. Those numbers couldn’t be much worse.

Joe Burrow will struggle to air it out against the Rams passing defense (150.5 PYPG – 5th). Joe Mixon has 115 rushing yards and should find running lanes against the Rams run defense (122.0 RYPG – 24th).

Cincy is in a spot where they need to prove they can win before I’ll back them.

Best Point Spread Pick: Los Angeles Rams +3 (-110)

The Rams are putting up points. The Bengals defense has been great against the pass (190.5 PYPG – 10th), but they’re allowing 192.0 RYPG (31st). Cam Akers was just traded, which means Kyren Williams is the lead RB. He’s also a threat through the air, as he has six receptions for 50 yards and 1 TD.

Williams should have a massive game on the ground. Both teams are averaging 1.5 sacks per game (T25), which will allow Stafford and Burrow time to find open targets. The Rams are allowing 21.5 PPG (12th), and the Bengals are allowing 25.5 PPG (T19). This game total feels too low based on those numbers.

Both teams have an over/under record of 1-1 to start the season.

Best Player Props Pick: Van Jefferson Under 37.5 Receiving Yards (-120)

Jefferson has struggled to start the season and his role is diminishing in the Rams offense. It looks like he could be on the bench once Kupp returns. Jefferson caught four of five targets in Week 1, but only gained 24 yards. He only caught one of four targets for nine yards in Week 2.

Nacua, Tutu Atwell, Williams, and Tyler Higbee all have more targets in the passing game. The Bengals have limited opposing passing attacks. I also expect the Rams to run the football more often in Week 3.

There’s a chance Jefferson breaks a big play, but I’m willing to bet against that happening.

Best Team Prop Pick: Rams to Score 15 Points First (+120)

The Rams are 2-0 in this market to start the season. The Rams were up 17-13 against Seattle and 17-10 against the 49ers. The Bengals are 0-2 in this market. They didn’t score 15 points in Week 1 and against the Ravens, they went down 20-10 in the third quarter. Look for the Rams to jump out of the gate fast.

  • MNF Week 2 Scores: Saints (20) vs. Panthers (17) and Browns (22) vs. Steelers (26)

The Saints (-3) won in Week 2 on MNF, but pushed the point spread. The Steelers (+2) upset the Browns in the second game. The Saints vs. Panthers went under and the Browns vs. Steelers went over the total.

I went 4-3-1 on my Monday Night Football picks for Week 2. If Nick Chubb doesn’t get injured, I would’ve been 5-2-1 and if Chris Olave scores instead of stepping out, I end up going 6-1-1. We’ll look to improve upon my record this week. I’m currently 8-3-1 on my MNF predictions to start the season.

We’ll also be tracking Monday Night Football betting trends throughout the season.
