The 20-second version
- No edge: every verified number favors Miami, but our model panel leans Florida State, and we won't headline a 21.5-point side on conflicting signals.
- Miami has outscored opponents 248-49 (49.6 points scored, 9.8 allowed per game) and comes off a bye.
- Florida State allowed 397 rushing yards at Louisville and has four linebackers ruled out.
- Total 56.5: Miami's games average 59.4 combined points, Florida State's 56.3. No lean.

No. 3 Miami (5-0) hosts Florida State (3-3) on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium, live on ESPN. The Hurricanes are 21.5-point favorites with a 56.5 total, and they come off a bye after a 41-13 demolition at Clemson. The Seminoles arrive after blowing a 14-0 lead in a 44-20 loss at Louisville. The data points one way, our model panel points the other, and SportsHub's call is no edge.
How these teams got here
Miami has been the most complete team in the ACC. The Hurricanes have outscored five opponents 248-49, which works out to 49.6 points per game scored and 9.8 allowed. They went on the road and beat Stanford 45-6, Wake Forest 33-20 and Clemson 41-13, and they hammered Florida A&M 77-7 at home. The Clemson win on Oct. 3 was the statement: Miami held the Tigers to 55 rushing yards, and JJ Dunnigan returned an interception for a touchdown. Then came an off week, so the Hurricanes get two full weeks to prepare for their rival.
Florida State is 3-3 and 1-2 in the ACC, averaging 31 points and allowing 25.3. The Seminoles have shown flashes, like the 34-7 rout of Central Arkansas, but the Louisville game on Oct. 9 summed up the season: they led 14-0, passed up a short field goal on fourth-and-goal, and were outscored 44-6 the rest of the way. FSU is 0-2 on the road this season and hasn't won a road game since Nov. 25, 2023.
Can Florida State's front seven slow Miami down?
This is where the game is decided. Louisville ran for 397 yards against Florida State, including 235 from Isaac Brown on 17 carries. Now FSU faces a Miami offense that is balanced and rested.
Darian Mensah went 18 of 27 for 227 yards at Clemson, with a 61-yard touchdown to Cooper Barkate and a rushing score of his own. Mark Fletcher Jr. added 77 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. If Florida State can't hold up between the tackles, Miami can stay on schedule all night and let Mensah pick his spots.
On the other side, Ashton Daniels was 21 of 37 for 209 yards and two touchdowns at Louisville and ran one in. Ousmane Kromah led FSU with 88 rushing yards, and Michai Danzy caught both touchdown passes. That is a workable offense, but it has to produce against a defense that has allowed fewer than 10 points per game.
Florida State's injury report is the story
The ACC availability report makes the matchup worse for the visitors. Florida State has ruled out nine players, and four of them are linebackers: Blake Nichelson, Izayia Williams, Daylen Green and Noah LaVallee, who was downgraded from questionable to out on Thursday's second report. The secondary is also thin, with defensive backs Karson Hobbs, Jamari Howard and Jordan Crutchfield out. Running back Samuel Singleton Jr. and wide receiver Devin Carter are out too. Defensive back Zae Thomas is probable after missing three straight games.
Miami has its own absences. Right guard Max Buchanan, who left the Clemson game with a leg injury, is out, along with running back CharMar Brown, wide receiver Joshua Moore, tight end Luka Gilbert and defensive backs Ja'Boree Antoine and OJ Frederique Jr. Losing a starting guard matters, but Miami had two weeks to set its line.
Prediction: no edge
Everything we can verify says Miami is the better team. Our model panel shows Florida State as the likelier winner, and that read contradicts every number below, so we're not putting a pick on it.
- Point differential: Miami is +199 through five games; Florida State is +34 through six.
- Run defense: FSU just gave up 397 rushing yards, and four of its linebackers are out for this one.
- Rest and venue: Miami is coming off a bye at home. FSU is 0-2 on the road.
- The number is big: at 21.5, Miami has to win by more than three touchdowns. It beat Wake Forest by 13, so a margin that large isn't automatic, even in a mismatch.
Swing factor: Florida State's starts. The Seminoles led Louisville 14-0. An early lead that forces Miami to chase would change the shape of this game.
On the total: 56.5 sits right on top of the numbers. Miami's games average 59.4 combined points and Florida State's average 56.3. We have no lean.
