Singapore Tennis Open: Kalinskaya and Mertens Advance to Semifinals

No. 1 seed Anna Kalinskaya of Russia and No. 2 seed Elise Mertens of Belgium secured their spots in the semifinals of the Singapore Tennis Open with hard-fought victories on Friday.

Kalinskaya fended off a determined challenge from Thailand’s Mananchaya Sawangkaew, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. Mertens, on the other hand, showcased her dominance with a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory over sixth-seeded Camila Osorio of Colombia.

Mertens is set to face No. 4 seed Xinyu Wang of China, who saved all eight break points she faced in a grueling three-hour, 19-minute battle against Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann. Wang won the intense match 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-4.

Kalinskaya will meet American Ann Li in the other semifinal. Li won a pair of tiebreakers to defeat Australian Kimberly Birrell 7-6 (2), 7-6 (4).

Upper Austria Ladies Linz: Muchova and Alexandrova Set for Semifinal Clash

Top seed Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic battled through a challenging three-set match, securing a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 quarterfinal victory over sixth-seeded Anastasia Potapova of Russia in Linz, Austria.

Muchova delivered an impressive performance, firing nine aces with only one double fault while saving 11 of 12 break points. In the semifinals, she will take on fourth-seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, who mounted a comeback to defeat Croatia’s Petra Martic 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In other quarterfinal action, No. 5 seed Dayana Yastremska of Ukraine dominated No. 3 seed Maria Sakkari of Greece 7-5, 6-0. Danish eighth seed Clara Tauson also secured her semifinal spot with a commanding 6-4, 6-3 win over Russia’s Anna Blinkova.
