With only four teams remaining in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, it’s time for me to share my semi-finals picks with you.

Spain and Sweden face off in the first semi-final on Tuesday, August 15, before Australia and England lock horns on Wednesday, August 16. The bookies expect Spain and England to advance, but Sweden and Australia are no pushovers.

You can find my semi-finals picks towards the end of this article. First, let’s recap the tournament and check out the updated Women’s World Cup outright odds.

2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Tournament Recap

The 2023 edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup has undoubtedly been one of the most exciting editions of the tournament. Over the past few weeks, we have been treated to tons of goals, loads of drama and plenty of upsets.

High-profile teams such as Germany, Brazil and Canada failed to make it past the group stage, while unfavored nations like Morocco, Colombia and Jamaica reached the knockout phase.

Despite winning the previous two editions of the tournament, the United States failed to reach the quarter-finals this time around, with Sweden preventing the Stars and Stripes from securing an unprecedented three-peat.

There was also penalty shootout joy for Australia in the quarter-finals. The host nation dispatched France in front of a packed Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, setting up a semi-final showdown with England.

Latest Outright Odds for the Women’s World Cup

Before I share my semi-finals picks with you – and before you lock in your semi-finals picks – it only makes sense that we look at the updated outright odds for the Women’s World Cup. After all, the bookies’ prices have shifted drastically.

2023 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP OUTRIGHT ODDS

  • Spain (+175)
  • England (+187)
  • Australia (+400)
  • Sweden (+500)

As you can see, Spain is now the favorite to lift the trophy, although the bookies believe that England also stands an excellent chance. The Spaniards are priced at +175 to go all the way, while the English are priced at +187.

After knocking out France in the previous round, Australia is the third favorite to secure the silverware. With a tricky clash against Spain on the horizon, Sweden heads into the semi-finals as the outright underdog.

Are you ready for my semi-finals picks? Let’s get this show on the road!

Women’s World Cup Semi-Finals Picks and Predictions

Following three weeks of thrilling action, there are now just four teams left in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Accordingly, it’s time for me to share my semi-finals picks and predictions.

Spain is favored to get the better of Sweden, while England is expected to knock out Australia. However, this summer’s tournament has already served up plenty of shock results, and the semi-finals could produce even more surprises.

Please note that the kick-off times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), which is two hours behind local time in New Zealand. AEST is also 14 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET) in the United States and nine hours ahead of British Summer Time (BST) in the UK.

Spain vs. Sweden Prediction

  • Date: Tuesday, August 15, 2023
  • Kick-Off: 18:00 (AEST)
  • Stadium: Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand
  • Odds: Spain (+114); Draw (+215); Sweden (+235)

Behind the United States, Spain entered the tournament as the bookies’ second favorite to go all the way. However, following the reigning champion’s elimination, La Roja is now favored to lift the trophy in Sydney this weekend.

The Spaniards kicked off their World Cup campaign with easy wins over Costa Rica (3-0) and Zambia (5-0) before suffering a shock 4-0 defeat against Japan. Nevertheless, Spain bounced straight back with a 5-1 thrashing of Switzerland in the last 16 before defeating the Netherlands 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

Sweden, meanwhile, posted a 100% record during the group stage, dispatching South Africa (2-1), Italy (5-0) and Argentina (2-0) to finish five points clear atop Group G. After knocking out the US, the Swedes claimed a 2-1 victory over Japan to punch their ticket to the last four.

It is also worth remembering that Sweden has recorded four top-three finishes in eight World Cup appearances, reaching the final back in 2003. Spain might be the bookies’ favorite, but Sweden has the experience. With that in mind, Sweden’s price of +235 looks too tasty to ignore.

Best Bet: Sweden (+235)

Australia vs. England Prediction

  • Date: Wednesday, August 16, 2023
  • Kick-Off: 20:00 (AEST)
  • Stadium: Accor Stadium, Sydney, Australia
  • Odds: England (+132); Draw (+200); Australia (+215)

Priced at +950 to win the World Cup before the tournament, Australia has exceeded all expectations on home soil. With huge crowds supporting the host nation at every match, the Matildas will be determined to give their fans even more to cheer about on Wednesday.

After taking six points from a possible nine during the group stage, Australia defeated Denmark 2-0 in the last 16. Following 120 minutes of goalless action against France, the Aussies clinched a dramatic 7-6 penalty shootout triumph to book their place in the semi-finals.

England, on the other hand, claimed victories over Haiti, Denmark and China during the group stage before dispatching Nigeria and Colombia to reach the last four. Not only have the Lionesses scored 10 goals in five games, but they have also kept three clean sheets.

Sure, England is favored to advance, but Australia will be confident of creating history in Sydney. With star Aussie Sam Kerr back in action – and Lauren James suspended for the Lionesses – Wednesday’s clash is destined to be a close-fought battle.
