Welcome to the latest edition of Sports Hub’s weekly cricket roundup, which includes some useful One-Day Cup picks, a look at the latest outright odds for the 2023 Cricket World Cup and a whole lot more.

The Cricket season may be drawing to a close in England, with The Hundred reaching its climax. Still, there are plenty of cricket betting opportunities to take advantage of in the coming months.

Let’s begin by recapping all the latest news from the world of cricket. I will then share my recommended One-Day Cup picks for this week’s matches before discussing the 2023 Cricket World Cup odds.

What’s Happening in the World of Cricket?

From England to Dubai and from Sri Lanka to the Caribbean, cricket is happening right across the globe right now.

The New Zealand men’s team is in Dubai for a three-match T20 series against the United Arab Emirates, starting on Wednesday and finishing on Sunday. Elsewhere, the Netherlands women’s team takes on Ireland in a three-match T20 series this week.

The Hundred is heating up, too, with both the men’s and women’s tournaments in full swing. The Oval Invincibles lead the way in the men’s standings, while the Welsh Fire sit atop the women’s standings. There are several matches this week before the knockout phase kicks off next week.

With action from the Caribbean Premier League, Lanka Premier League and Ireland’s Inter-Provincial Cup also on the schedule, there is no shortage of cricket betting openings on offer.

Best One-Day Cup Picks for This Week

Having scoured this week’s cricket odds, I want to share a handful of One-Day Cup picks with you. Of course, there are lots of different cricket events to bet on right now, but these One-Day Cup picks present great value.

The Leicestershire Foxes find themselves at the summit of the Group A standings after winning five of their opening six matches. Over in Group B, the Birmingham Bears lead the way, having taken maximum points from their opening five games.

My One-Day Cup picks concern three matches taking place on Thursday, August 17. Without further ado, here are my recommended One-Day Cup picks for Thursday’s games.

Kent vs. Nottinghamshire Prediction

Odds: Kent (-127); Nottinghamshire (-103)

The Kent Spitfires and the Notts Outlaws are separated by a solitary point in the Group A standings. While the Spitfires have won three of their five matches, the Outlaws have recorded two wins, three losses and one no result.

After defeating Surrey by 87 runs, Kent thrashed Middlesex by 133 runs last time out, with Jack Leaning smashing 68 runs off 68 balls. Notts, on the other hand, head into Thursday’s clash on a three-game losing streak, having fallen to Hampshire, Surrey and Middlesex.

Since the Outlaws suffered a 134-run thrashing at the hands of Middlesex last time out, I expect Kent to heap more misery on Notts this week. Plus, the Spitfires’ home-field advantage makes odds of -127 look very attractive.

Best Bet: Kent (-127)

Yorkshire vs. Hampshire Prediction

Odds: Hampshire (-131); Yorkshire (+101)

It’s second against third in Group A on Thursday, as the Hampshire Hawks host the Yorkshire Vikings. The Hawks have won four of their five matches so far, while the Vikings have recorded two wins, one loss and two no results.

Having kicked off their campaign with three straight wins, the Hawks endured a four-wicket defeat to Leicestershire before swiftly returning to winning ways last time, claiming an 11-run victory over Lancashire.

Harry Duke’s 93 not-out helped Yorkshire edge Surrey by one wicket last time out, meaning the Vikings secured back-to-back wins following a weather-impacted start to the tournament. Accordingly, the Vikings will be confident of extending their hot streak.

Durham vs. Somerset Prediction

Odds: Durham (-154); Somerset (+119)

Somerset occupies last place in Group B after enduring a terrible start to the tournament. Not only have Tom Abell and co. suffered four defeats in five matches, but they also enter Thursday’s clash on a three-game losing run.

On the flip side, Durham has recorded two wins, two losses and one no-result. Ryan Campbell’s men find themselves three points clear of Somerset in the standings, but that could change when the two sides face off on Thursday.

Durham suffered a big six-wicket defeat to Northamptonshire last time out, with Prithvi Shaw smashing 125 runs off just 76 deliveries. Naturally, Durham’s bowlers will be on edge after that batting display.

Latest 2023 Cricket World Cup Odds

Now that you’ve had my One-Day Cup picks, let’s check out the latest odds for the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The tournament gets underway in India on October 5, and the bookies have updated their prices ahead of the showpiece event.

OUTRIGHT ODDS FOR THE 2023 CRICKET WORLD CUP

  • India (+190)
  • England (+250)
  • Australia (+350)
  • Pakistan (+600)
  • New Zealand (+650)
  • South Africa (+850)
  • Sri Lanka (+2000)
  • Afghanistan (+2800)
  • Bangladesh (+4000)
  • Netherlands (+30000)

As you can see, the bookies favor India (+190) to triumph on home soil. The two-time champion last lifted the trophy back in 2011, but they failed to make it past the semi-finals in each of the previous two World Cups.

After winning the tournament in 2019, England (+250) is the bookies’ second favorite, while Australia (+350) is also in the mix. Let’s not forget that the Aussies have won more World Cups than any other nation, triumphing in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2015.

Pakistan (+600), New Zealand (+650) and South Africa (+850) bridge the gap between the favorites and outsiders. Sri Lanka (+2000), Afghanistan (+2800) and Bangladesh (+4000) are seen as the underdogs, while the Netherlands (+30000) doesn’t stand a chance in the eyes of the bookies.
