Week 9 NFL Futures – Top Markets

Since the start of the season, I have been tracking the odds for some of the top NFL futures markets. Take a look the markets I will be examining in Week 9 NFL futures:

  • Super Bowl Winner
  • AFC Champion
  • NFC Champion
  • MVP
  • Offensive Rookie of the Year
  • Defensive Rookie of the Year

How have odds changed for NFL futures after Week 9? Well, my Week 9 NFL Futures Report will share with you all the essential details.

We are now at the halfway stage in the 2023 NFL season so we have a good chunk of data and tape to investigate. It’s time to get into Week 9 NFL futures!

Super Bowl Winner

Who do the bookmakers think is the most likely franchise to win Super Bowl LVIII? Well, last week the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs led the market. Take a look at the odds for the top-ten candidates through Week 8 in the first market of Week 9 NFL futures:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (+500)
  • Kansas City Chiefs (+500)
  • San Francisco 49ers (+600)
  • Miami Dolphins (+950)
  • Dallas Cowboys (+1000)
  • Buffalo Bills (+1200)
  • Baltimore Ravens (+1200)
  • Detroit Lions (+1400)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (+1600)
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (+2000)

The Chiefs return as favorites to win the Super Bowl. After disappointing on the road to Denver during Week 8, they responded with a 21-14 victory over fellow Super Bowl contenders the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt last Sunday.

Another week of games has seen the prices change once again. Check out the odds after Week 9:

  • Kansas City Chiefs (+475)
  • Philadelphia Eagles (+500)
  • San Francisco 49ers (+600)
  • Baltimore Ravens (+850)
  • Dallas Cowboys (+1100)
  • Miami Dolphins (+1200)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (+1200)
  • Detroit Lions (+1400)
  • Buffalo Bills (+1800)
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (+1800)

If you’re into conspiracy theories, then you might have seen the latest one that has been doing the rounds of late. In a nutshell, it claims that the two teams that are set to face off in the Super Bowl have already been determined, based on the color scheme of the logo.

This season, the logo is indicating that the Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers are going to square off in Nevada come next February. It wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise if that happened either.

The Ravens look like one of the most complete teams in football and they have now gotten a lot shorter in price from +1200 to +850 after their dominant 37-3 triumph over the Seattle Seahawks. The Niners are the Niners, even though they have lost three on the bounce.

AFC Champions

Moving over towards an AFC conference focus now for Week 9 NFL futures, let’s see the odds for the AFC champion after Week 8:

  • Kansas City Chiefs (+240)
  • Miami Dolphins (+490)
  • Baltimore Ravens (+550)
  • Buffalo Bills (+650)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (+900)

Baltimore has been trending in the right direction for some time now and it comes as no surprise that they have overtaken the Dolphins to win the AFC. The Fins have only beaten teams that are .500 or below this year and they have failed in all three sterner tasks up against the Buffalo Bills, the Eagles and the Chiefs.

Here are the updated odds after Week 9:

  • Kansas City Chiefs (+240)
  • Baltimore Ravens (+550)
  • Miami Dolphins (+600)
  • Cincinnati Bengals (+700)
  • Buffalo Bills (+850)

Who jumped on the Cincinnati Bengals when they were as big as +2800 to win the Super Bowl? Well, Joe Burrow is back and so are the Bengals. At just 1.4%, Burrow has the lowest turnover-worthy play percentage in the league this season, per PFF. Cincinnati are a serious football team and look back to their best. Get them now at +700 to win the AFC before their price comes in even more.

NFC Champions

Next up, let’s investigate the top contenders to go on and win the NFC. Here are the odds for the NFC champion after Week 8:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (+230)
  • San Francisco 49ers (+250)
  • Dallas Cowboys (+480)
  • Detroit Lions (+500)
  • Seattle Seahawks (+1500)

There hasn’t been much change in the outlook in the NFC. The Eagles have gotten shorter and currently have the best record in the NFL at 8-1. They beat the Dallas Cowboys 28-23 last Sunday. It looks unlikely that they’re going to be challenged to the No. 1 seed in 2023.

Check out the updated prices through Week 9:

  • Philadelphia Eagles (+210)
  • San Francisco 49ers (+260)
  • Dallas Cowboys (+500)
  • Detroit Lions (+550)
  • Seattle Seahawks (+1600)

The 49ers were on bye during Week 9 but they have the opportunity to finally get back to winning ways when they face the Jaguars in Jacksonville this week. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions will look to further consolidate their top spot in the NFC North as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

MVP

My Week 9 NFL Futures Report will now scrutinize the MVP market. Below you can find out the odds for the top-ten contenders through Week 8:

  • Patrick Mahomes (+270) QB Kansas City Chiefs
  • Jalen Hurts (+350) QB Philadelphia Eagles
  • Tua Tagovailoa (+370) QB Miami Dolphins
  • Lamar Jackson (+600) QB Baltimore Ravens
  • Josh Allen (+1300) QB Buffalo Bills
  • Trevor Lawrence (+1800) QB Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Joe Burrow (+2000) QB Cincinnati Bengals
  • Christian McCaffrey (+2500) RB San Francisco 49ers
  • Brock Purdy (+3000) QB San Francisco 49ers
  • Dak Prescott (+3300) QB Dallas Cowboys

The MVP race appears to be coming down to five contenders now. There’s a big gap after Burrow and the sportsbooks seem pretty set that one of those guys is gonna win the award. However, things can change very quickly in the NFL.

Below are the updated odds to win MVP after Week 9:

  • Patrick Mahomes (+260) QB Kansas City Chiefs
  • Jalen Hurts (+325) QB Philadelphia Eagles
  • Lamar Jackson (+350) QB Baltimore Ravens
  • Tua Tagovailoa (+650) QB Miami Dolphins
  • Joe Burrow (+800) QB Cincinnati Bengals
  • Josh Allen (+1600) QB Buffalo Bills
  • Trevor Lawrence (+1900) QB Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Christian McCaffrey (+2900) RB San Francisco 49ers
  • Brock Purdy (+3400) QB San Francisco 49ers
  • Jared Goff (+4500) QB Detriot Lions

Burrow’s price has been cut massively from +2000 after Week 8 to +800 after Week 9. The Bengals signal caller has been back to his best in recent weeks after a slow start to the season. Over the last four weeks he has thrown 10 touchdowns and just two interceptions, with an average passer rating of 110.1.

Matching the upward trend of the Ravens, Lamar Jackson’s price has also been cut significantly from +600 to +350. According to PFF, he is the second-highest graded QB this season after Josh Allen. It looks set to be an extremely interesting battle for MVP this year.

Offensive Rookie of the Year

Week 9 NFL futures will now take a look at rookie awards. There seems to be one clear winner for Offensive Rookie of the Year this season. You can find the odds for the top-five candidates through Week 8 here:

  • C.J. Stroud (-150) QB Houston Texans
  • Puka Nacua (+330) WR Los Angeles Rams
  • Jahmyr Gibbs (+1200) RB Detroit Lions
  • Will Levis (+1400) QB Tennessee Titans
  • Bijan Robinson (+1400) RB Atlanta Falcons

Well, it looks like the time to back C.J. Stroud to win OROY has officially passed. Odds for him to win the award have been slashed hugely from -150 to -550. It’s no shock either.

Check out the updated odds for OROY after Week 9:

  • C.J. Stroud (-550) QB Houston Texans
  • Puka Nacua (+750) WR Los Angeles Rams
  • Jahmyr Gibbs (+1500) RB Detroit Lions
  • Bijan Robinson (+2200) RB Atlanta Falcons
  • Will Levis (+2500) QB Tennessee Titans

The Houston Texans QB put in a stunning display last weekend to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 39-37. Stroud threw a mammoth 470 yards for five touchdowns and zero picks. What a talent that guy is. It would come as a complete shock if he didn’t go on to win OROY in 2023.

Defensive Rookie of the Year

Finally, Week 9 NFL futures will survey the latest developments for the Defensive Rookie of the Year market. Here are odds to win the award after Week 8:

  • Jalen Carter (-125) DT Philadelphia Eagles
  • Devon Witherspoon (+140) CB Seattle Seahawks
  • Brian Branch (+1000) S Detroit Lions
  • Will Anderson Jr. (+1300) DE Houston Texans
  • Christian Gonzalez (+3300) CB New England Patriots

Like OROY, DROY has a clear frontrunner. Jalen Carter of the Eagles has led the market now since Week 1. His price has gotten shorter and shorter each week. His consistency has been superb and he has slotted in perfectly in Philly’s defensive line.

Let’s see how the odds have changed after Week 9:

  • Jalen Carter (-320) DT Philadelphia Eagles
  • Devon Witherspoon (+250) CB Seattle Seahawks
  • Brian Branch (+1500) S Detroit Lions
  • Will Anderson Jr. (+2000) DE Houston Texans
  • Christian Gonzalez (+3300) CB New England Patriots

Devon Witherspoon appears to be the only potential candidate that could have a slim chance at winning DROY other than Carter. However, the Seahawks corner hasn’t been as effective in recent weeks.
