Keep reading to discover my 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters predictions and picks.

What’s Happened at the 2023 Shanghai Masters So Far?

The 2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters kicked off on October 4 at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, China. The popular ATP Tour Masters 1000 event is back on the schedule following a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Daniil Medvedev (#2) entered the tournament as the defending champion, having triumphed back in 2019. However, the Russian suffered a third-round defeat to Sebastian Korda (#26) this time around, meaning the #2 seed made an early exit.

It is worth noting that Medvedev is not the only underperforming seeded player at this year’s tournament. Holger Rune (#3) and Alexander Zverev (#9) were both eliminated in the second round, while Stefanos Tsitsipas (#4) and Taylor Fritz (#7) fell in the third round.

Carlos Alcaraz (#1) defeated Daniel Evans (#30) to book his place in the round of 16, setting up a showdown with Grigor Dimitrov (#18). Andrey Rublev (#5) also remains in the tournament and will face Tommy Paul (#12) next.

Now that you’re up to speed on what’s happened so far, let’s dive into my Rolex Shanghai Masters predictions and picks for several standout matches on the last-16 schedule.

2023 Rolex Shanghai Masters Predictions – Round of 16

Some matches in the round of 16 have already taken place. Despite being unseeded, Fabian Marozsan overcame Casper Ruud (#8) to punch his ticket to the quarterfinals, upsetting the Shanghai Masters odds in the process.

Still, there are plenty of matches to bet on across Tuesday, October 10 and Wednesday, October 11. With big-name players like Carlos Alcaraz and Andrey Rublev taking to the court, you should have fun making your Rolex Shanghai Masters predictions.

Without further ado, here are my Rolex Shanghai Masters predictions. The round of 16 is in full swing, so be sure to jump on these picks before it’s too late!

Nicolas Jarry vs. Diego Schwartzman Prediction

Odds: Nicolas Jarry (-250); Diego Schwartzman (+190)

Nicolas Jarry has already won two ATP titles this year, triumphing on home soil at the Chile Open before defeating Grigor Dimitrov in the final of the Geneva Open. Although Jarry is a clay specialist, he will back himself to reach the quarterfinals in China

On the flip side, Diego Schwartzman entered the Shanghai Masters as a wildcard. There is no hiding the fact that Schwartzman knocked out Taylor Fritz in the previous round, but the Argentine will struggle to run deeper in the tournament.

Regardless of his efforts against Fritz, I can see Schwartzman faltering against Jarry. While Schwartzman is relatively inexperienced at this level, Jarry knows what it takes to win ATP titles and dominate matches in the latter stages.

Best Bet: Nicolas Jarry (-250)

Tommy Paul vs. Andrey Rublev Prediction

Odds: Tommy Paul (+175); Andrey Rublev (-223)

Andrey Rublev made light work of Adrian Mannarino in the previous round, thrashing the Frenchman 6-3, 6-0. Having flexed his muscles to book his place in the quarterfinals, Rublev will be confident of overcoming Tommy Paul.

As for Paul, he was pushed all the way by Arthur Fils last time out, snatching a third-set victory after a testing tiebreaker. The American will likely be fatigued following that match, giving Rublev the upper hand.

It is also worth remembering that Rublev reached the quarterfinals at three of the four Grand Slams this year. On top of that, the Russian has multiple ATP titles to his name, so she shouldn’t struggle to get the better of Paul.

Best Bet: Andrey Rublev (-223)

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Grigor Dimitrov Prediction

Odds: Carlos Alcaraz (-500); Grigor Dimitrov (+350)

The moneyline odds tell you everything you need to know about this matchup. Sure, Grigor Dimitrov is a strong player, but Carlos Alcaraz is the #1 seed and the world #2, making him the bookies’ firm favorite to win this match and lift the trophy.

2023 has been an incredible year for the 20-year-old Spaniard. Not only did he defeat Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, but he also reached the semifinals of both the French Open and the US Open, underlining his growth.

That said, Dimitrov has a vast amount of experience in the bank. The 32-year-old Bulgarian has reached three Grand Slam semifinals over the years, so he will fancy his chances of upsetting the Shanghai Masters odds.

Ugo Humbert vs. Jeffrey John Wolf Prediction

Odds: Ugo Humbert (-167); Jeffrey John Wolf (+130)

The last of my Rolex Shanghai Masters predictions concerns the clash between Ugo Humbert and Jeffrey John Wolf. As you can see, Humbert is the bookies’ favorite to advance to the quarterfinals, but Wolf will have other ideas.

Wolf has already seen off Pedro Cachin, Cameron Norrie and Matteo Arnaldi in China. These victories followed a fourth-round appearance at the 2023 Australian Open, where the 24-year-old Ohioan announced himself in style.

It is worth remembering, however, that Humber will be brimming with belief after dispatching Tsitsipas in the previous round. The 25-year-old Frenchman has made vast improvements this year, making it difficult to bet against him here.
