Following a four-year hiatus, the China Open is back on the tennis calendar. Accordingly, it’s time for me to share my 2023 China Open predictions.

The tournament gets underway in Beijing on Thursday, September 28. With high-profile players like Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev competing in the ATP 500 event, we are set for a week of top-class tennis action.

Before I provide my China Open predictions for the opening round, let’s preview the tournament, discuss the latest outright odds and highlight the top players to keep an eye on.

2023 China Open Preview

The 2023 China Open will take place at the National Tennis Center in Beijing between September 28 and October 8. This is the 22nd edition of the tournament for the men (ATP) and the 24th edition for the women (WTA).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the previous edition of the China Open took place in 2019. Dominic Thiem claimed the men’s singles title that year, while Naomi Osaka secured the women’s singles title. However, neither player will return to defend their crown this year.

We are still waiting for the bookies to release their women’s singles China Open odds, but we now have access to the men’s singles odds. So, let’s check out the top 10 favorites for the men’s singles event.

Men’s Singles Outright Odds – 2023 China Open

  • Carlos Alcaraz (+137)
  • Daniil Medvedev (+350)
  • Jannik Sinner (+500)
  • Alexander Zverev (+900)
  • Andrey Rublev (+1400)
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas (+1400)
  • Casper Ruud (+2200)
  • Grigor Dimitrov (+2500)
  • Alex de Minaur (+2800)
  • Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (+3300)

Unsurprisingly, Carlos Alcaraz is the bookies’ favorite to win the men’s singles title in Beijing. With Novak Djokovic absent from this year’s tournament, Alcaraz is undoubtedly the strongest player in the ATP field.

Daniil Medvedev is viewed as Alcaraz’s biggest threat, while Jannik Sinner is the third favorite. Alexander Zverev is the only other player priced under +1000, with Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas coming in at +1400. Casper Ruud, Grigor Dimitrov, Alex de Minaur and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina complete the top 10.

Other notable names include Felix Auger-Aliassime (+4000), Cameron Norrie (+5000), Holger Rune (+5000), Karen Khachanov (+5000) and Andy Murray (+6600).

Top Players to Track in Beijing

Before I share my China Open predictions with you, I want to take a closer look at some of the standout players in this year’s field. After all, the men’s singles lineup is stacked with big-name stars.

From favorites like Alcaraz and Medvedev to sleepers such as Rune and Murray, the men’s singles event is set to be hugely competitive. Since the outright odds are attractive across the board, you could land a tasty profit if you play your cards right.

Below, I highlight the top favorites and leading outsiders to keep an eye on in Beijing. I will then provide my 2023 China Open predictions and picks, offering insight into each selection.

Analyzing the Favorites – Alcaraz and Medvedev

It is no surprise that Alcaraz is favored to lift the trophy in Beijing. I mean, the 20-year-old Spaniard already has two Grand Slam titles to his name, with victories coming at the 2022 US Open and the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.

On top of that, Alcaraz reached the semifinals of both the Australian Open and US Open earlier this year, cementing his status as the heir to Djokovic’s throne.

It is worth remembering, however, that Medvedev is more than capable of halting Alcaraz’s momentum. Having reached five Grand Slam finals since 2019 – including this year’s US Open final – the 27-year-old Russian is arguably in his prime.

Potential Sleepers to Consider – Rune and Murray

Boasting outright odds of +5000 and +6600, respectively, Holger Rune and Andy Murray are certainly worth keeping an eye on. Of course, it will be difficult for the outsiders to go all the way, but they’ve both got what it takes to cause an upset.

Murray’s record speaks for itself. The iconic Brit has reached no fewer than 11 Grand Slam finals over the years, triumphing on three occasions. Although his results have waned in recent years, he is still a top-class player.

As for Rune, the 20-year-old Dane has already made a big impact on the ATP Tour. After reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open and Wimbledon earlier this year, Rune will fancy his chances of going one better in Beijing.

2023 China Open Predictions

It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for – here are my 2023 China Open predictions. In this section, I share my pick for the men’s singles outright winner, in addition to China Open predictions for several first-round matches.

Excluding the outright pick, of course, the following China Open predictions concern matches taking place on Thursday, September 28.

  • 2023 China Open Men’s Singles Champion – Daniil Medvedev (+300)
  • Andrey Rublev (-223) vs. Cameron Norrie (+175) – Andrey Rublev (-223)
  • Daniel Evans (+325) vs. Jannik Sinner (-450) – SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK
  • Nicolas Jarry (+175) vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas (-225) SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK
  • Alex de Minaur (-286) vs. Andy Murray (+220) – SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK

As you can see, I’m backing Medvedev to beat Alcaraz to the 2023 China Open title. The Russian has far more experience in the bank, and his performance against Djokovic in the US Open final earlier this month was immense.

I’m also backing Andrey Rublev to dispatch Cameron Norrie in the first round. Rublev made it to the quarterfinals in three of the four Grand Slam tournaments this year, meaning he shouldn’t struggle to overcome Norrie on Thursday.

You will need to sign in to access the rest of my China Open predictions and picks. I have analyzed three more matches from a betting perspective and locked in picks accordingly, so why not make use of those?

Also, keep an eye out for more tennis predictions in the near future. I will be back with more tennis picks and betting advice in due course, so be sure to stick with Sports Hub.
