EPL Betting Trends – Premier League Matchweek 9 Review

This section of our Premier League Matchweek 9 review focuses on betting trends in the EPL. With heaps of stats and numbers to analyze from MW9 and the season so far, there are plenty of intriguing trends to discuss.

It feels like every round of Premier League fixtures has served up tons of goals, drama, upsets and controversy this season. We may only be nine matchweeks into the campaign, but there are already loads of interesting trends to track.

Below, we cover basic betting trends, goal-based trends and player stats. Hopefully, the information in this section of our Premier League Matchweek 9 review will stand you in good stead for betting on the EPL this season.

Basic EPL Betting Trends After MW9

Which teams remain unbeaten this season? Which sides still haven’t managed to taste victory? Who are the biggest winners and losers so far? Read on to discover the answers to those questions.

  • Tottenham and Arsenal are STILL unbeaten this season
  • Liverpool has suffered a solitary defeat in nine matches
  • Sheffield United and Bournemouth are STILL winless in 2023-24
  • Luton Town and Burnley have registered one victory in nine games
  • Brentford and Nottingham Forest have drawn four of their nine outings

Tottenham and Arsenal are the only unbeaten teams in the Premier League after MW9. Like Spurs, Man City has picked up seven victories in nine matches, while Liverpool has suffered just one loss this season.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Sheffield United and Bournemouth are still waiting for their first wins of the campaign. Luton and Burnley are also among the early relegation candidates, as they have tasted victory on just one occasion.

Premier League Betting Trends – Goals

80% of the Matchweek 9 clashes served up over 2.5 goals, with four of the 10 games producing over 3.5 goals. If you enjoy utilizing goal-based markets when betting on the Premier League, be sure to digest all the information below.

  • Eight of the 10 MW9 clashes produced over 2.5 goals
  • Newcastle (24), Aston Villa (23) and Brighton (22) are the top scorers
  • Tottenham (8) and Arsenal (8) possess the best defensive records
  • Bournemouth (6) has the worst offensive record in the Premier League
  • Sheff Utd (24) and Burnley (23) possess the worst defensive records
  • Brighton has a 100% BTTS ratio in the Premier League this season
  • Both teams have scored in eight of West Ham’s nine games (89%)
  • All of Brighton’s matches this season have produced over 2.5 goals
  • Six of Crystal Palace’s nine clashes have produced under 2.5 goals

After both scoring four goals during MW9, Newcastle and Aston Villa moved to the summit of the scoring charts. Thanks to another clean sheet, Tottenham now possesses the joint-best defensive record alongside Arsenal.

Unsurprisingly, Bournemouth is struggling offensively, while Sheff Utd and Burnley are struggling at the back. This explains why all three clubs find themselves in the relegation zone after nine matches.

From a betting perspective, Brighton is a very interesting team at the moment. Under Roberto De Zerbi, the Seagulls have seen both teams score in all nine games this season, with each match dishing up at least three goals.

Key EPL Player Stats

Our Premier League Matchweek 9 review would not be complete without analysis of the standout players in the EPL this season. From attacking metrics like goals and assists to goalkeeping stats such as clean sheets, we cover all the bases below.

  • Chris Wood and Douglas Luiz both scored twice during MW9
  • Manchester City’s Erling Haaland (9) leads the Golden Boot race
  • Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min have each scored seven goals
  • Ollie Watkins has bagged five goals and three assists in his last four outings
  • Pedro Neto has notched six assists in his previous seven games
  • Kieran Trippier (6), James Maddison (5) and Watkins (5) also have multiple assists
  • Guglielmo Vicario (4), Nick Pope (4) and Sam Johnstone (4) lead the Golden Glove race

There were braces for Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood and Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz during GW9. Erling Haaland also found the back of the net, taking his tally for the season to nine goals in nine Premier League outings.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Wolves’ Pedro Neto are among the league’s most in-form players right now. Watkins has bagged five goals and three assists in his last four EPL appearances, while Neto has chalked six assists in his previous seven.

At the opposite end of the pitch, Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario, Newcastle’s Nick Pope and Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone have each kept four clean sheets in 2023-24.
