Three underdogs upset the odds to secure unexpected victories, while Sheffield United held Brighton to a shock draw. Oh, and we have the small matter of the wild eight-goal thriller between Chelsea and Manchester City to dissect.

Our Premier League Matchweek 12 review covers all the bases, from news and results to betting trends and player stats. Without further ado, let’s get this show on the road!

Matchweek 12 Premier League Results

Let’s begin our Premier League Matchweek 12 review by going over the results from another wild weekend in the English top flight. MW12 produced an average of 3.7 goals per game, with no fewer than seven clashes dishing up over 2.5 goals.

PREMIER LEAGUE MATCHWEEK 12 RESULTS

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Manchester United 1-0 Luton Town
  • Arsenal 3-1 Burnley
  • Crystal Palace 2-3 Everton
  • Bournemouth 2-0 Newcastle United
  • Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham
  • Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Sheffield United
  • West Ham United 3-2 Nottingham Forest
  • Liverpool 3-0 Brentford
  • Chelsea 4-4 Manchester City

The biggest MW12 winners were Bournemouth, Everton and Wolves. Bournemouth was priced at +350 to beat Newcastle, while Everton and Wolves had odds of +200 to defeat Crystal Palace and Tottenham, respectively.

Sheffield United was priced at +900 to win at the Amex, with Brighton priced at -450. Still, the Blades managed to hold the Seagulls to a draw, thanks largely to an Adam Webster own goal and a Mahmoud Dahoud red card.

The final clash of the round saw Chelsea (+350) play out a crazy 4-4 draw with Man City (-138). Pep Guardiola’s men came from 2-1 down to lead 3-2 and 4-3, only for Cole Palmer to score a 95th-minute equalizer against his former club.

Top Premier League Betting Trends

Man City occupies first place in the Premier League table, but Liverpool and Arsenal trail the defending champion by a solitary point. In fact, the top five teams are separated by just three points. At the opposite end of the standings, the three promoted teams are stuck in the relegation zone.

  • Man City (9) has the most wins in the Premier League this season
  • Liverpool (1) and Arsenal (1) have suffered the fewest defeats
  • Burnley (1), Sheff Utd (1) and Luton (1) have picked up the fewest wins
  • The Clarets (10) have also recorded the most losses in 2023-24
  • Man Utd (12) has claimed the most points across the past five games
  • Liverpool (5) is enjoying the longest current unbeaten streak
  • Burnley (5) is enduring the longest current losing streak

Guardiola’s men have won nine of their 12 EPL matches this season, while the bottom three teams have each picked up just one victory. Bottom-of-the-table Burnley has also suffered the most defeats in 2023-24.

Thanks to a run of four wins and one loss, Manchester United has picked up more points than any other side across the past five games. That said, Liverpool holds the longest unbeaten streak after notching three wins and two draws.

Premier League Goal Trends

The goals continued to flow throughout Matchweek 12, with the 10 clashes producing a total of 37 goals. We have now seen 370 goals scored in 120 EPL games this season, meaning the average stands at 3.08 goals per game.

  • Matchweek 12 produced a whopping 37 goals (3.7 goals per game)
  • Seven of the 10 Matchweek 12 clashes served up over 2.5 goals
  • Five encounters during Matchweek 12 produced over 3.5 goals
  • Man City (32) is the highest-scoring team in the Premier League
  • Liverpool (10) and Arsenal (10) have conceded the fewest goals

  • Brighton still possesses a 100% BTTS ratio in the league this season
  • BTTS has landed for Wolves (83%) and West Ham (83%) on 10 occasions

70% of MW12 clashes produced over 2.5 goals, while 50% dished up over 3.5 goals. On top of that, two matches produced exactly five goals, while Chelsea and Man City shared eight at Stamford Bridge.

Believe it or not, Brighton still has a 100% BTTS ratio after 12 games. Only five teams have scored more goals than Robert De Zerbi’s men this season, but they have also conceded more goals than 14 teams.

Key Premier League Player Stats

Three players bagged a brace during Matchweek 12, while three goalkeepers achieved a shutout. Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland finds himself atop the Golden Boot standings after netting another double.

  • Erling Haaland, Dominic Solanke and Mohamed Salah each scored twice during MW12
  • Haaland (13) now leads Salah (10) by three goals in the Golden Boot race

  • Pedro Neto (7) has registered the most assists in the Premier League this season
  • Followed by Ollie Watkins (5), James Maddison (5), Jeremy Doku (5) and James Ward-Prowse (5)
  • Andre Onana, Neto and Alisson each kept a clean sheet during Matchweek 12
  • Nick Pope (5) and Sam Johnstone (5) have achieved the most clean sheets this season
  • Joao Palhinha (52) has made the most tackles in 2023-24
  • Lewis Dunk (1,144) has completed the most passes this season

Mohamed Salah is the only player within touching distance of Haaland, although Jarrod Bowen and Son Heung-min aren’t too far behind. In terms of assists, Pedro Neto leads the way, while Nick Pope and Sam Johnstone lead the way for clean sheets.

If you’re someone who enjoys betting Premier League player props, you will be interested to know that Joao Palhinha sits atop the tackles leaderboard. Meanwhile, Lewis Dunk occupies top spot in the passing charts.
