2027 NHL All-Star Game Predictions

The 2027 NHL All Star Game will look very different from the traditional conference and divisional formats.

Canada, the United States, Finland, Sweden and a World team will compete in a five team international tournament at UBS Arena on Long Island. The format is three on three, with every team playing four five minute round robin games. The two teams with the most points advance to a 10 minute championship game. A win is worth two points, a tie is worth one, and there will be no overtime or shootout during the round robin.

That structure changes the betting analysis immediately. Three on three hockey rewards speed, puck possession, open ice creation and goaltenders who can handle repeated high danger chances. The five minute games also create enormous variance. One turnover can decide an entire matchup, while a team that looks strongest on paper can lose before its talent advantage has enough time to appear.

Canada has the highest offensive ceiling and is the early prediction to win the tournament. Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar are almost perfectly designed for three on three hockey, while Macklin Celebrini, Connor Bedard and Mitch Marner add another layer of transition skill. NHL.com currently projects all six onto Canada's roster.

The best betting value may appear elsewhere. The World team can potentially combine Leon Draisaitl, Nikita Kucherov, David Pastrnak and Kirill Kaprizov with Andrei Vasilevskiy and Igor Shesterkin in goal. Team USA offers Jack Eichel, Jack Hughes, Auston Matthews, Quinn Hughes and the goaltending depth that helped the Americans win Olympic gold in 2026.

That leaves Canada as the most likely winner, while the World team and USA are the preferred early betting targets if the eventual prices meet the thresholds below.

The NHL betting hub provides the broader hockey context as the 2026 to 2027 season begins determining which players actually earn All Star roster spots.

2027 NHL All Star Best Bets

Because a verified All Star winner market is not yet broadly available, these are playable entry prices rather than current market quotations.

BetPlayable Price
World team to win+450
USA to win+350
Finland to win+800

The World team offers the most interesting combination of potential payout and three on three personnel. USA is the stronger overall roster but should command a shorter price. Finland is the higher variance option because a compact roster removes some of the depth disadvantage that hurts the Finns in larger international tournaments.

Canada remains the tournament prediction, but the betting threshold needs to be considerably more favorable than the simple question of which roster looks strongest. A price shorter than approximately +250 would leave too little room for the randomness created by five minute games.

2027 NHL All Star Game Format

The new format is closer to a condensed international tournament than a normal NHL All Star Game.

Each national roster will contain nine skaters and two goaltenders. The NHL and NHLPA will first select 30 eligible players for each team, and the fan vote will open in December. Fans will choose eight players per roster, while the final forward, defenseman and goaltender will be selected jointly by the league and players association.

That roster construction matters because the optimal three on three team is not necessarily the same as the strongest traditional national team.

A normal international roster needs checking forwards, penalty killers, multiple defensive pairs and players capable of handling specialized roles. A nine skater All Star roster can prioritize elite puck carriers and finishers much more heavily.

That is why players such as McDavid, MacKinnon, Kucherov, Jack Hughes, William Nylander and Kaprizov become even more valuable in this environment. Open ice gives elite skaters more room to attack defenders one on one, and one possession can turn into a breakaway without the layers of defensive support normally present at five on five.

The format also increases the importance of every result. Four five minute games do not provide much time to recover from a bad start. One loss combined with a tie could leave a favorite chasing the top two before the tournament has really settled.

Canada Has the Highest Three on Three Ceiling

Canada is the early championship prediction because no other projected roster can match the combination of elite skating and puck control available at the top.

NHL.com's first projected Canadian roster includes McDavid, MacKinnon, Bedard, Celebrini, Sidney Crosby, Brandon Hagel, Marner, Makar and Matthew Schaefer. Jordan Binnington and Logan Thompson are the projected goaltenders.

McDavid alone changes three on three hockey because opponents have fewer players available to contain his speed. He also enters the cycle after being named MVP of the 2026 Olympic tournament, where he recorded 13 points in six games. Makar joined him on the Olympic All Star team, while Celebrini was also selected among the tournament's top forwards.

MacKinnon creates another problem because Canada does not need to place all of its elite speed on one unit. A McDavid combination can attack one opponent shift, followed immediately by MacKinnon, Makar or Celebrini against tired players.

The limitation is goaltending.

Canada's projected tandem does not have the same recent individual résumé as the potential World combination of Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin. That weakness becomes more significant in an event where goalies are repeatedly facing rush chances with large amounts of open ice.

Canada is still the most likely winner, but this is not a tournament where a short favorite deserves automatic support. The format is too compressed for that.

USA Has the Strongest Two Way Case

Team USA may have the most balanced projected roster in the tournament.

NHL.com's early group includes Matt Boldy, Eichel, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Matthews, Jason Robertson, Tage Thompson, Matthew Tkachuk and Zach Werenski. Connor Hellebuyck and Jeremy Swayman are the projected goaltenders.

Eight of those nine projected skaters were part of the American team that won Olympic gold in February. Jack Hughes scored the overtime winner against Canada in the gold medal game, while Quinn Hughes led the Americans with eight points in six games.

The goaltending case is even stronger.

Hellebuyck was named the best goaltender of the 2026 Olympics after posting a .9562 save percentage. That type of performance cannot simply be projected forward into February 2027, but it provides evidence that he can handle elite international shooters in high pressure situations.

Quinn Hughes and Werenski also fit three on three particularly well because both can create offense without needing to remain stationary at the blue line. NHL.com's projected roster analysis notes that they ranked first and second in average NHL ice time last season.

USA therefore has fewer obvious weaknesses than most teams.

At +350 or better, the Americans would qualify as a bet. Anything closer to +250 would make the price much less appealing because Canada and the World team possess enough high end talent to keep the true championship probability compressed.

The World Team Offers the Best Value Profile

The World team could become the most entertaining roster in the tournament.

NHL.com's current projection includes Draisaitl, Nico Hischier, Kaprizov, Kucherov, Martin Necas, Alex Ovechkin, Artemi Panarin, Pastrnak and Juraj Slafkovsky. The projected goaltenders are Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin.

The offensive numbers behind that group are substantial. The nine projected skaters combined for 803 NHL points last season. Kucherov produced 130 points, Necas and Pastrnak each reached 100, Draisaitl finished with 97 and Kaprizov scored 45 goals.

Three on three makes that offensive concentration even more dangerous.

There is no requirement to build traditional forward lines. Kucherov can operate with Draisaitl. Kaprizov can attack alongside Pastrnak. A team that rotates multiple elite finishers can create matchup problems even without using many conventional defensemen.

The projected roster actually contains no defensemen. NHL.com's panel considered players such as Moritz Seider and Roman Josi, but ultimately selected nine forwards.

That would be a concern at five on five. It is much less alarming in three on three exhibition hockey, where puck retention and finishing can matter more than defending a traditional cycle.

The goalie combination pushes the betting case higher. Vasilevskiy won the 2025 to 2026 Vezina Trophy and posted a .912 save percentage during the NHL season, while Shesterkin also finished at .912.

If the World team opens +450 or longer, that would be the best early wager on the board.

Sweden Is Better Suited to the Format Than the Ranking May Suggest

Sweden should not be dismissed simply because Canada, USA and the World team have more recognizable scoring depth.

The projected Swedish roster includes Leo Carlsson, Rasmus Dahlin, Filip Forsberg, Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson, Gabriel Landeskog, Adrian Kempe, Nylander and Mika Zibanejad. Jesper Wallstedt and Linus Ullmark are the current projected goaltenders.

The reason Sweden is interesting is specific to the format.

Dahlin, Hedman and Karlsson can all move the puck and create offense from defense. Kempe scored four goals during three on three NHL overtime last season and Nylander scored three, placing both among the league's more productive overtime finishers.

That is directly relevant evidence.

Players who consistently create in NHL three on three overtime already understand how to manage space, possession and line changes in the exact type of environment the All Star format will emphasize.

Sweden still needs stronger goaltending clarity before becoming a betting position. Wallstedt, Ullmark, Jacob Markstrom and Filip Gustavsson could all influence the final decision depending on how the first half of the NHL season develops.

A large underdog price could change the calculation, but Sweden currently sits just outside the main betting card.

Finland Is the Longshot Worth Monitoring

Finland may have the smallest superstar pool of the five teams, but the compact roster actually helps reduce that disadvantage.

The projected Finnish group includes Sebastian Aho, Aleksander Barkov, Mikael Granlund, Miro Heiskanen, Roope Hintz, Artturi Lehkonen, Anton Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen and Mikko Rantanen. Juuse Saros and Ukko Pekka Luukkonen are the projected goalies.

Aho led Finnish born NHL players with 80 points last season, while Rantanen produced 77 and Heiskanen recorded 63 from defense. Saros was excellent during the Olympics, finishing the tournament with a 1.66 goals against average and .940 save percentage across six games.

Finland's weakness in a full best on best competition is usually depth relative to Canada and USA. That matters much less when only nine skaters are needed.

Barkov, Rantanen, Aho and Heiskanen provide enough top end quality to compete over five minutes. Saros can also erase mistakes if his form resembles what he produced internationally in 2026.

The concern is explosive scoring. Canada and the World team can create offense from almost anywhere on the ice, while USA can counter with several elite individual shooters.

Finland needs the largest price of the three recommended teams. +800 or better would create enough compensation to accept the offensive disadvantage. Below +650, the longshot argument becomes less attractive.

Goaltending Matters Differently in Five Minute Games

Goaltending could determine this tournament without looking anything like normal NHL goaltending.

A five minute game may produce only a handful of dangerous chances. That means one save can be the difference between two points and zero.

The opposite can also happen. Three on three creates repeated rush opportunities where even an elite goalie has very little defensive structure in front of him.

That makes goalie reputation useful but not decisive.

Hellebuyck gives USA a meaningful advantage because of his Olympic performance. Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin give the World team an exceptional projected tandem. Saros gives Finland another proven international option. Canada's goalie group is the area where the tournament favorite appears most vulnerable.

The NHL stats page becomes more useful as February approaches because current goaltending form should carry more weight than an August projection.

Three on Three Changes the Value of Traditional Hockey Metrics

Regular NHL statistics still matter, but they need to be filtered through the format.

Shot suppression at five on five is less useful when only three skaters are defending. Physicality becomes less important because the game creates so much open space. Faceoff performance can matter, but a team that wins the draw and immediately loses possession has gained very little.

Puck control becomes more valuable.

Elite three on three teams often retreat instead of forcing a low percentage shot because maintaining possession prevents the opponent from attacking open ice in transition. Players who can circle back, create a new entry and force defenders to switch assignments become especially valuable.

That favors McDavid, MacKinnon, Jack Hughes, Quinn Hughes, Kucherov, Kaprizov, Nylander and Makar.

It also makes traditional hockey betting markets more difficult to translate directly into the event. The guide to hockey odds provides useful background on moneylines, totals and futures, but All Star prices still need to account for the unusual game length and format.

The Fan Vote Can Change the Betting Board

No roster is final yet.

The NHL and NHLPA will create a pool of 30 players for each team before fan voting opens in December. Fans will select eight players for each roster, with the remaining three spots filled jointly by the league and players association.

That process introduces uncertainty.

Canada has more elite candidates than available roster spots. Mark Scheifele was already mentioned as a difficult omission from NHL.com's first projection, while 2026 No. 1 pick Gavin McKenna could enter the conversation depending on his rookie season.

USA has similar depth. Jake Oettinger and Brandon Bussi were among the goalies considered behind Hellebuyck and Swayman, while several additional American skaters received votes during NHL.com's projection process.

Sweden's goalie competition remains open, while Finland needs to see whether several injured or returning players reach full form.

The NHL team directory provides a useful path for tracking individual players through their club seasons before the fan ballot begins.

2027 NHL All Star Skills Prediction

The Skills competition takes place Friday, February 5 and will feature 10 players age 25 or younger. The event contains Fastest Skater, Hardest Shot, Passing Challenge, One Timers, Stick Handling and Accuracy Shooting before the leading four players advance to a shootout. The top two then compete in an obstacle course finale for the $1 million first prize.

Macklin Celebrini is the early prediction to win the overall competition if selected.

The format rewards versatility rather than one specialized skill. A player cannot depend entirely on having the hardest shot or being the fastest skater because points must be accumulated across multiple events before reaching the final rounds.

Celebrini already demonstrated his ability against elite international competition by earning a place on the media All Star team at the 2026 Olympics.

Connor Bedard, Jack Hughes, Leo Carlsson and Matthew Schaefer are other players who could fit the competition well if chosen, but there is no responsible Skills wager before the 10 participants and their event assignments are announced.

The prediction is Celebrini. The betting decision is monitor.

Short Games Make Underdog Prices More Valuable

The greatest betting mistake in this event may be treating a five minute game as though the better team has the same opportunity to establish superiority that it would have over 60 minutes.

It does not.

The shorter the contest becomes, the more random events matter. One missed assignment, one post or one elite save can erase a large talent advantage.

That is why long prices on the World team and Finland deserve attention even though Canada has the stronger overall projection.

The same principle applies to each round robin matchup once individual game prices become available. Heavy favorites should be treated carefully because there may not be enough game time for the expected talent gap to translate into a comfortable probability advantage.

The tournament winner market may therefore offer cleaner value than repeatedly laying expensive individual game moneylines.

2027 NHL All Star Game Final Prediction and Best Bets

Canada is the early prediction to win the 2027 NHL All Star Game.

A projected core featuring McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, Celebrini, Bedard and Marner is built for open ice. Canada's ability to rotate elite puck carriers throughout the five minute games gives it the highest offensive ceiling in the tournament.

USA ranks second. Olympic gold, Hellebuyck's goaltending and a projected lineup featuring Eichel, Matthews, the Hughes brothers, Robertson and Werenski create the best two way challenge to Canada.

The World team ranks third in pure championship probability but first in projected betting value. Draisaitl, Kucherov, Pastrnak and Kaprizov provide enough finishing to beat any team in five minutes, while Vasilevskiy and Shesterkin could give the roster the best goalie combination in the event.

Sweden ranks fourth but has legitimate three on three specialists in Nylander and Kempe, along with several defensemen capable of driving offense. Finland ranks fifth but becomes attractive if the market offers +800 or longer because the small roster reduces the importance of national depth.

The betting card is World +450 or better, USA +350 or better and Finland +800 or better. Canada is the most likely winner, but a tournament this short requires a significantly better price before the favorite becomes a bet.

Celebrini is the early Skills champion prediction, although that market should remain untouched until the participants and competition assignments are confirmed.

The new format should produce one of the most unusual All Star betting environments the NHL has created. Talent matters, but the combination of three on three hockey, five minute games and a two team final means price discipline matters just as much.
