2026 NCAAF Awards Odds, Predictions and Best Bets
BySal Lombardi
The first full week of the 2026 college football season has already changed the awards market. Darian Mensah has jumped to the top of the Heisman odds after an explosive Miami debut, Malachi Toney has closed the gap on Jeremiah Smith in the Biletnikoff race, and Jadan Baugh has moved to the front of the Doak Walker market.
That does not mean the new favorites automatically offer the best bets.
Award futures require separating two questions: Who is most likely to win? and Is the current price worth betting? A player can be the rightful favorite while still being overpriced, while a contender further down the board can offer substantially better value.
Our approach compares current production, previous-season performance, role, team outlook, schedule, major-game opportunities, availability and the qualities recent voters have rewarded in each award. The goal is not to react to one big Week 1 performance. It is to estimate how likely each candidate is to build a complete award-winning season.
For more context on how season-long markets differ from weekly betting, this college football futures betting approach explains why team success, national exposure, marquee games and price discipline matter when evaluating awards.
NCAAF Awards Best Bets
| Bet | Odds |
|---|---|
| Nate Sheppard to win the Doak Walker Award | +2500 |
| Julian Sayin to win the Heisman Trophy | +1400 |
| Gunner Stockton to win the Heisman Trophy | +3000 |
Ryan Coleman-Williams is also worth considering for the Biletnikoff Award at +2500 or longer, but he ranks behind the three featured positions in overall confidence.
The distinction between odds and probability is important throughout this article. A +2500 future does not need to be more likely to win than a +300 favorite to be the better wager. It only needs to win more frequently than the price implies. Bettors unfamiliar with that distinction can review this guide to implied probability and betting odds.
Heisman Trophy Odds
The Heisman remains the deepest and most competitive awards market. Mensah is now the favorite after throwing for 401 yards and five touchdowns in Miami's opener, while Julian Sayin, Arch Manning, Jeremiah Smith, Malachi Toney and several other contenders remain within striking distance.
Prices vary significantly across the market, particularly on longer shots, so ranges are more useful than pretending every bettor has access to one identical number.
| Candidate | Current Odds | Estimated Win Probability |
|---|---|---|
| Darian Mensah, Miami | +600 | 7.6% |
| CJ Carr, Notre Dame | +1100 | 4.8% |
| Arch Manning, Texas | +1100 | 7.8% |
| Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State | +1200 | 5.6% |
| Trinidad Chambliss, Ole Miss | +1300 | 7.2% |
| Malachi Toney, Miami | +1400 | 4.1% |
| Julian Sayin, Ohio State | +1500 | 10.3% |
| Dante Moore, Oregon | +1500 | 7.6% |
| Sam Leavitt, LSU | +1800 | 5.2% |
| Gunner Stockton, Georgia | +5500 | 7.9% |
Heisman Prediction: Julian Sayin
Julian Sayin enters Week 2 as our narrow Heisman pick.
He already has something most early-season contenders still need to build: a legitimate national awards résumé. Sayin finished fourth in Heisman voting last season and entered 2026 with 3,610 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and eight interceptions from his 2025 campaign.
His first 2026 performance added to that foundation. Sayin completed 21 of 25 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns in Ohio State's 56-3 opener, finishing without an interception.
The statistical profile matters, but his schedule may matter even more.
Recent Heisman winners have generally combined elite individual production with nationally significant moments. Quarterbacks have the clearest route because strong performances in championship-level games allow voters to connect individual success directly with team success.
Sayin gets one of those opportunities immediately.
Ohio State travels to Texas in Week 2, putting Sayin, Jeremiah Smith and Arch Manning into the same national-stage matchup. The College Football Week 2 slate gives Sayin the kind of early signature-game opportunity that Mensah has not yet faced.
That is why Sayin ranks above Mensah in our model even though Mensah currently has the shorter odds.
Mensah's Miami debut was exceptional. Completing 27 of 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns is exactly the type of performance that moves an awards market. The concern is not his ability to win. It is the price after the market immediately reacted.
At roughly +550 to +600, Mensah needs to win about 14% to 15% of the time before accounting for market margin. Our current estimate is significantly lower.
Sayin at +1400 carries an implied probability of approximately 6.7%. Our estimate is 10.3%.
That gap is enough to make him our preferred Heisman position.
Best bet: Julian Sayin +1400 or better
A strong performance against Texas could shorten that price quickly. A poor performance would not simply make a longer price automatically attractive; it could change the underlying award case.
Heisman Long Shot: Gunner Stockton
Gunner Stockton provides the most interesting longer-price Heisman profile.
His market is unusually wide, with prices ranging from approximately +2400 to +5500 and a current +4000 appearing on a recent board. That price dispersion makes line shopping particularly important.
Stockton threw for 2,894 yards and 24 touchdowns against only five interceptions in 2025 while adding meaningful rushing production. He also finished seventh in Heisman voting.
Georgia's opener did little to hurt the profile. Stockton completed 15 of 16 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns before Georgia's depth took over during a 63-3 victory.
The concern is volume.
Georgia can win without asking Stockton to throw 35 or 40 times every week. That creates the possibility that quarterbacks in more aggressive passing offenses finish with noticeably larger raw totals.
But the Heisman has never been exclusively a yardage award. Efficient quarterback play, major wins, low turnover numbers and a championship-level team can compensate for lower volume.
At +3000, Stockton carries an implied probability of roughly 3.2%. Our estimate is 7.9%.
There is enough margin there to justify the risk.
Best long shot: Gunner Stockton +3000 or better
If the available price falls toward +2000, the advantage becomes considerably smaller. This is a price-dependent wager rather than a player to chase regardless of the number.
Biletnikoff Award Odds
The Biletnikoff race already looks much different from the preseason market.
Jeremiah Smith remains the favorite, but Miami's Malachi Toney has moved sharply after opening 2026 with 12 catches for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Coleman-Williams also strengthened his case with 130 yards on five receptions in Alabama's opener.
Current prices:
| Candidate | Current Odds | Estimated Win Probability |
|---|---|---|
| Jeremiah Smith | +150 | 15.3% |
| Malachi Toney | +250 | 17.2% |
| KJ Duff | +700 | 7.9% |
| Cam Coleman | +900 | 6.3% |
| Duce Robinson | +1200 | 2.9% |
| Mario Craver | +1800 | 5.4% |
| Isaiah Sategna III | +2200 | 6.4% |
| Charlie Becker | +2500 | 5.7% |
| Cooper Barkate | +3000 | 5.3% |
| Ryan Coleman-Williams | +3500 | 7.5% |
Odds snapshot current through September 7.
Biletnikoff Prediction: Malachi Toney
Toney narrowly overtakes Smith in our current Biletnikoff projection.
The reason is not simply his Week 1 performance.
Toney entered the season after already producing 109 catches, 1,211 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman. The 234-yard, three-touchdown opener therefore looks less like an isolated breakout and more like another step forward from an already elite workload.
Recent Biletnikoff winners have generally followed one of two paths. Some dominate through massive reception volume. Others win through explosive yardage and touchdown production even without leading the country in catches.
Toney can plausibly do both.
Smith remains extremely close. He already has a stronger national awards résumé and opened 2026 with eight catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns, all before halftime.
The problem is his price.
At +150, Smith's odds imply a 40% chance of winning. Toney at +250 implies about 28.6%. Our estimates are far lower at 15.3% and 17.2%.
That makes both difficult to recommend at their current numbers even though we view them as the two most likely winners.
Betting recommendation at +250: Pass
Being the predicted winner and being the best wager are not the same thing.
Biletnikoff Value Bet: Ryan Coleman-Williams
Ryan Coleman-Williams offers a much more interesting price.
He entered 2026 as Alabama's primary receiving option and immediately produced five catches for 130 yards in the opener.
His current +3500 price implies only about a 2.8% chance of winning. Our model places him around 7.5%.
Coleman-Williams still has work to do. Recent Biletnikoff winners usually combine substantial yardage with double-digit touchdown production, and one 130-yard game does not establish that season-long profile.
But the bet does not require him to be as likely to win as Smith or Toney. It requires the market to be underestimating his path relative to a much longer price.
At +3500, we believe it is.
Biletnikoff value bet: Ryan Coleman-Williams +2500 or better
If the market falls below +2500 before his touchdown production develops, the value becomes considerably less attractive.
Doak Walker Award Odds
The Doak Walker market produced one of the largest Week 1 adjustments.
Jadan Baugh has moved to +300 after rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Nate Sheppard sits much further down the board despite producing 227 yards and two touchdowns in Duke's opener.
| Candidate | Current Odds | Estimated Win Probability |
|---|---|---|
| Jadan Baugh | +300 | 15.8% |
| Kewan Lacy | +650 | 8.7% |
| Mark Fletcher Jr. | +1200 | 4.3% |
| Raleek Brown | +1400 | 3.5% |
| Ahmad Hardy | +1600 | 1.4% |
| Hollywood Smothers | +1800 | 5.7% |
| Bo Jackson | +2200 | 9.2% |
| Nate Sheppard | +2500 | 16.9% |
| Jordon Davison | +3000 | 7.5% |
| LJ Martin | +3500 | 7.% |
Doak Walker Prediction and Best Bet: Nate Sheppard
This is the strongest betting discrepancy on the awards board.
Sheppard rushed for 1,132 yards as a freshman last season, giving him an established production base before the first snap of 2026.
Then came his opener.
Sheppard carried 35 times for a career-high 227 yards and two touchdowns in Duke's 17-3 win. The 227 yards matter, but the 35 carries may be even more important for an award like the Doak Walker.
Recent winners have overwhelmingly been true feature backs. High-end efficiency helps, but award-winning seasons tend to require sustained rushing volume and heavy touchdown production.
That is what separates Sheppard's opener from some of the other major Week 1 performances.
Baugh was more explosive, averaging more than 11 yards per attempt while scoring three times. His case is legitimate. But 14 carries provide less evidence of season-long workload control than Sheppard's 35.
The current market is asking bettors to pay +300 for Baugh, a price that implies a 25% chance of winning.
Sheppard is +2500, implying approximately 3.85%.
Our independent model actually makes Sheppard the narrow favorite at 16.9%, just ahead of Baugh at 15.8%.
The true difference between them is probably smaller than the model suggests this early in the season. The difference between their prices, however, is enormous.
Even if Sheppard's true probability were only half of our current estimate, +2500 would remain interesting.
Best overall value: Nate Sheppard +2500
This is the strongest current NCAAF awards bet because the argument does not depend entirely on Week 1. Sheppard already had a 1,100-yard baseline and immediately confirmed the feature-back workload required to build on it.
Davey O'Brien Award Prediction
The quarterback-specific awards market remains less consistently priced than the Heisman market, so there is no featured Davey O'Brien wager at the current snapshot.
The pick, however, remains Julian Sayin.
Removing the Heisman's positional and narrative variables strengthens Sayin's case because he was already a finalist for the quarterback award last season. His efficiency, low turnover profile, team environment and early 2026 performance all match what recent winners and finalists have generally demonstrated.
Darian Mensah is the biggest statistical threat after his five-touchdown Miami debut, while Gunner Stockton, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss and Arch Manning remain legitimate challengers.
Until the post-Week 1 pricing becomes more consistent, the better decision is to maintain the pick without forcing a bet.
Current betting recommendation: Pass until the market fully reprices
John Mackey Award Prediction
The John Mackey Award is even less suitable for a featured futures bet at this stage.
Unlike the Biletnikoff or Doak Walker, recent Mackey winners have followed very different statistical paths. Some have won through massive receiving volume, some through touchdown production and others through their overall contribution as complete tight ends.
That makes early-season pricing particularly difficult to evaluate from receiving statistics alone.
Terrance Carter Jr. currently has the strongest established statistical profile among the primary candidates we evaluated, while Trey'Dez Green has the more compelling touchdown profile and Jamari Johnson offers significant receiving explosiveness.
The market is not deep or current enough for us to attach a recommended wager.
Current betting recommendation: Pass
The awards board after Week 1 presents three distinctly different opportunities.
Nate Sheppard +2500 for the Doak Walker Award is the strongest overall value. His 227-yard opener came on 35 carries, and his established freshman production gives the performance a stronger foundation than a one-game breakout.
Julian Sayin +1400 or better is the preferred Heisman position. His existing awards résumé, efficiency, Ohio State's team ceiling and immediate opportunity against Texas provide the most complete path at a price that remains longer than our estimated probability suggests.
Gunner Stockton +3000 or better is the best longer shot. His raw passing volume may never match some of the other quarterbacks, but his efficiency, dual-threat ability, previous Heisman recognition and Georgia's national outlook create a credible path at a price that can reach +4000 or longer.
Ryan Coleman-Williams is the secondary value position for the Biletnikoff, while Toney remains our predicted winner of that award.
Awards futures can change quickly. One major performance can cut a price in half, while an injury, team loss or reduced role can destroy months of expected value. Futures also keep bankroll committed for a much longer period than normal weekly wagers, making disciplined position sizing especially important. This bankroll management guide covers how to control exposure rather than increasing stakes simply because a future offers a large payout.
The same principle applies throughout the season: bet the price, not just the player.
