2027 NBA All Star Predictions, Best Bets and Weekend Betting Guide
ByRubi Chavez
The 2027 NBA All Star weekend moves to Phoenix with one of the deepest collections of superstar talent the league has had in years. Victor Wembanyama, Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Nikola Jokic, Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Edwards and Jalen Brunson all have realistic paths to becoming central figures in the weekend, while a new rookie class should give the Rising Stars event another strong group of young players.
The betting side requires more patience. Widespread 2027 NBA All Star Game, MVP, Dunk Contest and Three Point Contest prices are not yet available this far from the event, and the NBA has not announced the 2027 All Star Game format. That makes it more useful to identify the players and event structures that could create value once real markets become available.
The latest confirmed format came in 2026, when the NBA used two U.S. teams and one World team in a round robin tournament consisting of four 12 minute games. USA Stars eventually won the championship, and Anthony Edwards earned All Star MVP. Whether Phoenix keeps that structure or introduces another variation will have a major effect on totals, player props and team prices.
My early All Star MVP prediction is Anthony Edwards, while the World roster would become one of the most interesting team betting angles if the international format returns at an attractive price. Stephen Curry has also committed to the 2027 Three Point Contest, making that event the first part of the weekend where one major participant is already known.
The NBA betting hub provides the broader league context as the regular season begins determining which players actually deserve places in Phoenix.
When and Where Is the 2027 NBA All Star Weekend?
NBA All Star 2027 will take place in Phoenix from February 19 through February 21. The main All Star Game is scheduled for Sunday, February 21 at the Phoenix Suns' home arena. Phoenix will host the event for the fourth time after previously doing so in 1975, 1995 and 2009.
Rising Stars begins the on court portion of the weekend on Friday, followed by the Skills Challenge, Three Point Contest and Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday before the main event on Sunday.
That sequence matters from a betting perspective because not every market needs to be evaluated at the same stage. The Three Point Contest can be analyzed once the complete shooting field and rules are known, while All Star Game props depend heavily on roster construction, format and expected playing time.
What the 2026 All Star Game Taught Bettors
The 2026 event provided a useful example of why All Star betting should begin with format rather than player reputation.
The NBA divided its All Stars into USA Stars, USA Stripes and World. The three teams played three round robin games before the top two advanced to the championship. Each game lasted only 12 minutes, creating a much smaller possession sample than a traditional NBA game.
USA Stars beat World 37 to 35 in the opener. USA Stripes then beat USA Stars 42 to 40 before defeating World 48 to 45. USA Stars returned for the championship and beat USA Stripes 47 to 21.
Those scores show how much variance exists in short games. World lost both appearances by a combined five points despite having a roster built around some of the league's best international players. A couple of possessions going differently could have completely changed the bracket.
That matters if the structure returns in Phoenix. Short games reduce the time a stronger roster has to separate itself, which can make large favorites less attractive. Teams with strong shooting and several players capable of creating immediately may be more valuable than rosters that would normally benefit from controlling a full 48 minute game.
Anthony Edwards adjusted particularly well to the format. He scored 32 points across three games and earned the Kobe Bryant Trophy as All Star MVP while helping USA Stars win the championship.
The lesson is not simply to back Edwards again. The more useful takeaway is that the format rewarded players capable of generating offense quickly without requiring a large number of possessions to establish rhythm.
Who Could Start in the 2027 NBA All Star Game?
The 2026 voting process selected five starters from each conference through a combination of fan voting, player voting and media voting. Fans represented 50 percent of the result, while players and media each accounted for 25 percent. The reserves were selected by NBA coaches.
The NBA has not yet confirmed whether the exact same process will remain in place for 2027, but last season provides the most useful starting point for projecting the player pool.
| Conference | Starter Candidates |
|---|---|
| Eastern | Giannis Antetokounmpo |
| Eastern | Jalen Brunson |
| Eastern | Cade Cunningham |
| Eastern | Tyrese Maxey |
| Eastern | Jayson Tatum |
| Eastern | Jaylen Brown |
| Western | Victor Wembanyama |
| Western | Shai Gilgeous Alexander |
| Western | Nikola Jokic |
| Western | Luka Doncic |
| Western | Anthony Edwards |
| Western | Stephen Curry |
The Western race could again be considerably more difficult. Last season Doncic, Curry, Gilgeous Alexander, Jokic and Wembanyama won starting positions, with Wembanyama defeating Edwards through a voting tiebreaker.
That does not mean Curry or another veteran automatically keeps a starting place. Edwards enters the year as the reigning All Star MVP, while Wembanyama is positioned to remain one of the league's most important two way players. Gilgeous Alexander, Jokic and Doncic also remain among the strongest offensive engines in basketball.
The East has more opportunity for movement. Brunson, Cunningham and Maxey were starters last season, while Giannis remains one of the league's premier international stars. Tatum, Brown and other contenders can change the final order depending on health, team record and first half performance.
The NBA statistics page will become more useful once the season begins because All Star debates should eventually move away from reputation and toward actual production, efficiency and availability.
Anthony Edwards Is My Early All Star MVP Prediction
Anthony Edwards is the most natural early MVP prediction because his style fits almost any version of the All Star Game.
He can create without needing an offense built entirely around him, attack in transition, generate his own shot late in the clock and produce the type of explosive scoring run that becomes especially valuable in shorter games. He also showed in 2026 that he was willing to compete hard enough to influence the outcome rather than treating the event purely as an exhibition.
Edwards scored 32 points across the three games he played and finished the weekend with both the team title and MVP trophy. That gives us evidence that his game translates to the unusual structure rather than simply relying on his regular season reputation.
That does not make him an automatic wager when prices become available. All Star MVP markets are highly volatile because playing time is distributed across elite players and one strong shooting stretch can completely change the result.
My preferred range would be Edwards at +800 or longer once his participation is confirmed. If the price falls below approximately +600 before the format and rotations are fully known, the betting margin becomes too thin.
Wembanyama would be my primary alternative. His defense can matter more than usual if the league again uses short games where two or three altered possessions can decide the result. He also has enough scoring range to produce quickly without dominating every possession.
Gilgeous Alexander belongs in the same group because he can generate efficient offense immediately. Jokic may be the best pure offensive organizer in the field, but an All Star environment does not necessarily reward the same possession control that makes him so dominant throughout a full NBA game.
The World Team Could Become the Best Team Bet
If the NBA brings back a U.S. versus World structure, the international roster deserves serious consideration before assuming the American teams should be favored.
A potential World pool could feature Jokic, Doncic, Wembanyama, Gilgeous Alexander, Giannis and several other international stars. The 2026 World team was eliminated without winning a game, but both losses were decided by a single possession. USA Stars won 37 to 35 and USA Stripes won 48 to 45.
That matters because the final record can create an inaccurate impression of how competitive the team actually was. World finished winless, but only five combined points separated it from potentially winning both games.
If a similarly strong international roster returns and the World team is available around +130 or longer to win the tournament, that is where the price begins becoming interesting. At even money or shorter, there would not be enough compensation for the variance created by short games.
The exact position depends entirely on the final structure. If the NBA returns to a traditional East against West game or introduces another tournament format, the angle would need to be evaluated from the beginning rather than forced into a different market.
Stephen Curry Gives the Three Point Contest an Early Headliner
The Three Point Contest already has one confirmed major participant. Stephen Curry has committed to competing in Phoenix after missing the 2026 All Star Game because of injury. Curry has previously won the Three Point Contest twice, in 2015 and 2021.
That creates one of the clearest early storylines of the weekend because Damian Lillard won the 2026 competition. Lillard scored 29 points in the final round, edging Devin Booker, who finished with 27. Kon Knueppel also reached the championship round.
Lillard's victory was his third in the event, joining Larry Bird and Craig Hodges as three time champions. A possible Curry and Lillard field would naturally attract considerable attention if Lillard returns.
Shooting contests still carry more variance than the names suggest. One cold rack can remove a favorite immediately, while a less prominent participant can advance with one exceptional round.
Curry would interest me around +450 or longer in an eight player field. A price below +350 would be difficult to justify before seeing the complete group of shooters and the final contest rules.
Booker would also deserve attention if he returns, particularly if there is a large price gap between him and Curry. He produced the highest first round score in the 2026 competition before narrowly losing in the final.
The player with the biggest reputation is not automatically the strongest wager. Shooting order, contest structure and the price attached to each participant matter more than career recognition by itself.
The Dunk Contest Is a Wait Until the Field Is Announced
Keshad Johnson won the 2026 Dunk Contest after Carter Bryant produced the highest individual score of the competition but could not match Johnson's consistency throughout the final round.
That is exactly why I would not make a 2027 Dunk Contest prediction before the participant list becomes official.
The event depends heavily on who enters. A returning champion carries a very different probability when facing established stars than when competing against younger players with little contest experience.
Judging creates another layer of uncertainty that does not exist in the same way with the Three Point Contest. A shooter either makes or misses the attempt, while dunk scores depend partly on creativity, execution and judge interpretation.
There is no useful early wager until the field is confirmed. Waiting is the better position.
Rising Stars Could Offer Better Young Player Value
Rising Stars often provides a cleaner basketball handicapping opportunity because the event is built around younger players whose NBA roles are still expanding.
VJ Edgecombe won the 2026 Rising Stars MVP after helping Team Vince beat Team Melo 25 to 24 in the championship. He scored 17 points in the semifinal and another six in the final, including the winning free throws.
Edgecombe should remain eligible for the 2027 event as a second year player, while the latest rookie class introduces another group of possible participants. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and Caleb Wilson are among the young players likely to attract considerable attention during their first NBA seasons.
Their draft order should not determine the eventual betting order. Rising Stars tends to reward players who have the ball frequently, can create offense without complicated actions and are trusted enough to stay on the floor when a game approaches the target score.
Dybantsa and Peterson have obvious perimeter creation upside, while Boozer could benefit from a role that gives him consistent touches around the paint and on the glass. Edgecombe has already demonstrated that his style translates to the event.
My early prediction is that Edgecombe remains one of the strongest MVP candidates if selected again, but there is no reason to make a wager until the rosters and team assignments are announced.
Readers comparing how these young players fit into their NBA situations can use the NBA team directory once regular season rotations establish their actual roles.
All Star Props Require a Different Approach From Normal NBA Props
The biggest mistake in All Star prop betting is treating the event like a normal regular season game.
Minutes are distributed differently, defensive intensity can change depending on the format and players have far less predictable usage. A scorer averaging 30 points per game during the season may only receive a handful of possessions where he operates as the primary option during an All Star segment.
The 2026 structure made this especially important because every game lasted only 12 minutes. In that environment, one three pointer represents a much larger percentage of a player's total production than it would across a normal 48 minute game.
If that format returns, I would be cautious with aggressive points overs on the biggest stars. Bettors naturally gravitate toward scoring overs because the All Star Game has an offensive reputation, but shorter games and shared usage can create a very different statistical distribution.
Assist markets can become more interesting for players surrounded by elite finishers, while made three pointers can isolate a player's shooting opportunity without requiring him to dominate the ball. The actual line still has to provide enough value.
The Bettors Handbook provides additional context for evaluating probability, props and betting value once real All Star markets become available.
What Needs to Happen Before the Best Bets Become Official
The first major piece of information is the format. Until the NBA confirms whether the three team USA and World tournament returns, there is no responsible way to recommend a team winner with confidence.
The second is roster selection. A World roster containing Jokic, Doncic, Wembanyama, Gilgeous Alexander and Giannis creates a completely different betting market than one missing several of those players because of injuries or availability.
The third is event participation. Curry is already committed to the Three Point Contest, but the rest of the field can dramatically change whether his eventual price is attractive.
The final piece is the market itself. A correct player prediction can still become a weak wager when the price moves too far. Edwards at +900 and Edwards at +400 represent the same player but two very different betting decisions.
That is why early analysis should focus on thresholds rather than pretending an August opinion is already a finished wager.
Early 2027 NBA All Star Betting Positions
Anthony Edwards is my early All Star MVP prediction because his combination of quick scoring, transition athleticism and willingness to compete already translated into the 2026 format. I would consider him at +800 or longer after the roster and game structure are confirmed.
If the World team returns with the expected group of international stars, I would become interested around +130 or better to win the tournament. The 2026 result should not automatically discourage that position because World lost two games by a combined five points.
Stephen Curry is the clearest early Three Point Contest candidate because his participation is already confirmed. I would want approximately +450 or longer before making the wager, with the complete field still important to the decision.
The Dunk Contest remains a pass until participants are announced. Rising Stars is also a wait, although VJ Edgecombe, AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer are among the first players I would evaluate once the event roster becomes clear.
These are betting thresholds rather than current live recommendations. The eventual prices still determine whether the basketball case becomes a playable position.
2027 NBA All Star Prediction and Final Verdict
Anthony Edwards is my early prediction to win the 2027 NBA All Star MVP, but there is no reason to bet the market before real prices appear and the NBA confirms the game format. His 2026 performance demonstrated that his game fits short, high intensity All Star basketball, and he remains one of the league's most explosive scorers.
If the USA versus World structure returns, the World team could provide the more interesting team value because the likely international talent pool is strong enough to challenge either American roster. Last year's winless result should be evaluated in context rather than treated as proof that the format inherently favors the U.S. teams.
The Three Point Contest is already shaping up as one of the weekend's strongest events because Curry has committed to competing in Phoenix. His eventual price and the strength of the complete field will determine whether that storyline also becomes a wager.
Rising Stars may provide the best opportunity to identify a less obvious edge once rookie and second year roles become established. Dybantsa, Peterson, Boozer and the returning Edgecombe group give that event considerable upside.
The main betting position for now is patience. NBA All Star weekend creates unusual markets, unusual rotations and more volatility than a normal basketball slate, so waiting for confirmed rosters, rules and prices is more useful than trying to manufacture a preseason bet.
Once the season provides the performance and availability information that will determine the Phoenix rosters, readers can continue following the current NBA picks and predictions for daily basketball analysis.
