MLB roundup: Royals smack franchise-record 7 HRs, blast O’s

The Kansas City Royals flipped the narrative in explosive fashion Sunday, blasting a franchise-record seven homers en route to an 11-6 win over the Orioles. Heading into the game, KC was dead last in MLB with just 18 home runs in 34 games.

That changed quickly.

Maikel Garcia crushed two bombs, Bobby Witt Jr. delivered a go-ahead shot in the seventh, and Vinnie Pasquantino followed with another homer in back-to-back fashion. Even newly acquired Luke Maile joined the party with a blast in his Royals debut. In total, six different Royals went deep.

It’s the kind of offensive eruption that could fuel KC’s momentum moving forward — they’ve now won 11 of their last 13.

Tigers Demolish Angels Behind Sweeney & Carpenter

Detroit unleashed an offensive avalanche in a 13-1 rout of the Angels. Rookie Trey Sweeney plated six RBIs while Kerry Carpenter added five of his own. The Tigers piled up three homers, including one each from Sweeney, Carpenter, and Colt Keith.

It marked Detroit’s most runs in a series since 2013 — and Los Angeles dropped its eighth game in nine tries, continuing their slide.

Padres Sweep Pirates, Extend Dominance

San Diego completed a sweep of Pittsburgh with a 4-0 win, their fifth straight victory and ninth consecutive win over the Pirates. Xander Bogaerts led the charge with three RBIs, while the Padres notched their eighth shutout of the year.

Andrew Heaney, meanwhile, continues to struggle for Pittsburgh — failing to reach the fifth inning in back-to-back starts and surrendering eight hits on Sunday.
