The “West Coast Swing” resumes this week as golfers head to Torrey Pines, California and that means Sports Hub has Farmers Insurance Open predictions ready. 500 FedEx Cup points are on offer for the winner this week.

Players such as Xander Schauffele, Collin Morikawa and defending champion Max Homa are the current market leaders. We have seen three longshot winners in the opening three events of the 2024 PGA Tour. Will one of the favorites be the victor this time around?

We’ve got Farmers Insurance Open predictions coming up for you in our preview below. Let’s hope that we can identify the winner this week with our picks!

2024 PGA American Express Results

The AmEx saw a surprise longshot winner as Nicholas Dunlap beat Christiaan Bezuidenhout by just a single stroke to win the tournament. The 20-year-old golfer became the first amateur to win on the PGA Tour in over 30 years, but has since withdrawn from the Farmers Insurance Open after his shock triumph.

Unfortunately for Dunlap, he will not be able to receive any of the $1,512,000 that is usually awarded to the winner. Instead, Bezuidenhout will take home the winnings.

I wasn’t able to find any winners last week with my American Express picks. Hopefully I can return to form this week with my Farmers Insurance Open predictions. I’m up $710 over the last 30 days so I am in good form with my overall wagers.

2024 Farmers Insurance Open Preview

When: Wednesday, January 24th – Saturday, January 27th, 2024

Where: Torrey Pines, La Jolla, California

TV: Golf Channel / CBS

Field: 152 Golfers

Purse: $9,000,000 (Winner gets $1,620,000)

Homa is the defending champion after he won the 2023 edition by two strokes over Keegan Bradley. This year’s event has been moved forward a day and will get underway on Wednesday, January 24th due to NFL playoff games.

The tournament was originally known as the San Diego Open and first launched in 1952. Ted Kroll won the first-ever edition, defeating Jimmy Demaret by three strokes.

We have seen US golfers win the Farmers Insurance Open three years in a row, with Patrick Reed and Luke List winning the 2021 and 2022 editions respectively. The 2022 tournament was won via a playoff, as List managed to beat Will Zalatoris.

Torrey Pines Course Information

Players will compete across both the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines over the first two days of the event. The players who make the cut will then participate solely on the South Course for the final two rounds.

North Course

Par: 72 / Yards: 7,258

South Course

Par: 72 / Yards: 7,765

The South Course is just over 500 yards longer than the North Course, and both were designed by Billy Bell Jr. As a result, players will be expected to score slightly lower on the North Course. However, the scoring differential has been less significant since the North Course was renovated in 2017.

The South Course has hosted the U.S Open on two separate occasions. It was the home for both the 2008 and 2021 editions, won by Tiger Woods and Jon Rahm respectively. Due to the longer distance for the South Course, it may be a good tactic to look at off-the-tee statistics.

Expert PGA Farmers Insurance Open Predictions for 2024

Reigning champ Homa (+1150) is one of the market leaders for the Farmers Insurance Open. He hasn’t competed in either of the last two events on the PGA Tour, but managed to secure a T14 finish at The Sentry to begin the month. His last victory on the PGA Tour was in fact his triumph in last year’s Farmers Insurance Open. Could he win back-to-back tournaments as he defends his crown this time around?

After finishing third in last year’s edition, Morikawa (+950) is another top contender for Farmers Insurance Open predictions. The 26-year-old has been in good form of late and was able to win the ZOZO Championship last October. Since then, he hasn’t finished lower than seventh in his two outings, last finishing T5 at The Sentry. Morikawa finished T4 at the 2021 U.S Open played at Torrey Pines. He has clearly had very good past success playing here.

Schauffele (+850) is the current favorite to go on and win the event. He was just two shots off winning the AmEx last week as he finished in T3. He’ll be aiming to pick up his first win on the PGA Tour since July, 2022 at the Genesis Scottish Open. Schauffele also finished T10 at The Sentry so has entered the season in good form.

Top Contenders to Win the 2024 PGA Farmers Insurance Open

Two-time winner Jason Day (+2000) will be popular amongst Farmers Insurance Open predictions this week. The Australian golfer last won the tournament back in 2018, defeating Alex Noren and Ryan Palmer in a playoff. His last win on the PGA Tour came last year at the AT&T Byron Nelson, which was his first victory since his 2018 win at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Day also won the event back in 2015, and finished T7 in last year’s edition as well. He usually performs well in this tournament, with form figures at the Farmers Insurance Open reading 7-3-MC-16-5 over his last five appearances.

Harris English (+4000) is showing some decent value as he is another golfer who has enjoyed success playing at Torrey Pines. English finished third at the U.S Open in 2021, but missed the cut in this tournament last year.

Longshots to Win the 2024 PGA Farmers Insurance Open

2022 champion Luke List (+6500) is a longshot contender at Torrey Pines this week. The 39-year-old last won on the PGA Tour at the Sanderson Farms Championship last October, defeating the likes of Ludvig Aberg, Ben Griffin, Henrik Norlander and Scott Stallings in a playoff.

Another longshot candidate that has performed well in this tournament in the past is Zalatoris. He lost in a playoff in 2022, and his only win on the PGA Tour came in the 2022 FedEx St. Jude Championship. The 27-year-old underwent back surgery in April 2023, and has since played in two tournaments during the new season. He is yet to rediscover his best form, though, having missed the cut at the Sony Open, and finishing T34 in the AmEx last weekend.

It would be daft not to consider last week’s runner-up Bezuidenhout (+8000) after his excellent display at PGA West. The South African is showing some good value for Farmers Insurance Open predictions, and will be hoping to secure his first win on the PGA Tour this Saturday.

2024 PGA Farmers Insurance Open Predictions – Top 5 Finish

I am going for a slightly shorter pick for the first of my Farmers Insurance Open predictions in the top-5 finish market. Schauffele has started the 2024 PGA Tour season in strong form and I don’t mind odds of +185 for him to finish inside the top-5.

My longer-odds pick is Bezuidenhout to wrap up a top-5 finish. His odds of +1250 are showing good value, and hopefully he can carry on his good form shown in the AmEx last weekend.

My final top-5 finish selection is on Day (+500). He loves playing at Torrey Pines and his price is offering decent value, especially considering his strong form here.

Best Bet: Xander Schaffele (+185), Jason Day (+500) & Christiaan Bezuidenhout (+1250)
