Both teams have flattered to deceive so far, suffering three defeats in four matches. Can the defending champions reignite their campaign? Or will the Sri Lankans upset the odds in Bangalore?

Read on to discover my England vs. Sri Lanka prediction, along with more Cricket World Cup predictions, picks and betting advice. I cover a total of three matches, including South Africa vs. Bangladesh and Australia vs. Netherlands.

2023 Cricket World Cup Odds Update & Recap

Before we dive into my England vs. Sri Lanka prediction, let’s assess the lay of the land. Every team has played at least four matches, with India and New Zealand playing five.

This is what the group looks like after three weeks of action.

CURRENT 2023 CRICKET WORLD CUP STANDINGS

  1. India – 10 (+1.353 NRR)
  2. New Zealand – 8 (+1.481 NRR)
  3. South Africa – 6 (+2.212 NRR)
  4. Australia – 4 (-0.193 NRR)
  5. Pakistan – 4 (-0.456 NRR)
  6. Bangladesh – 2 (-0.784 NRR)
  7. Netherlands – 2 (-0.790 NRR)
  8. Sri Lanka – 2 (-1.048 NRR)
  9. England – 2 (-1.248)
  10. Afghanistan – 2 (-1.250)

Boasting a 100% record, India sits atop the standings thanks to a run of five consecutive wins. New Zealand has recorded four victories and one loss, while South Africa has registered three wins and one defeat.

At the opposite end of the group, Afghanistan, England, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh have all recorded one victory and three losses. Australia and Pakistan are both pushing for a top-four berth, having registered two wins and two defeats.

With that in mind, let’s check out the latest outright odds.

LATEST 2023 CRICKET WORLD CUP OUTRIGHT ODDS

  • India (+100)
  • Australia (+400)
  • South Africa (+450)
  • New Zealand (+550)
  • Pakistan (+1800)
  • England (+3300)
  • Sri Lanka (+25000)
  • Afghanistan (+30000)
  • Bangladesh (+50000)
  • Netherlands (+100000)

Unsurprisingly, India is the clear favorite to win the 2023 Cricket World Cup. The host nation has been the strongest team by a considerable margin, racking up five successive victories while posting a net run rate of +1.353.

Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand are favored to join India in the semifinals, while Pakistan and England bridge the gap between the favorites and outsiders. As you can see, the bookies don’t expect Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or the Netherlands to turn things around.

Anyway, it’s time for my England vs. Sri Lanka prediction!

Cricket World Cup England vs. Sri Lanka Prediction

Odds: England (-300); Sri Lanka (+200)

There is no hiding the fact that England has made a below-par start to the 2023 Cricket World Cup. With four matches in the books, the reigning champs have a solitary win to their name, meaning they could struggle to make the semifinals.

Following a shock defeat to Afghanistan, England suffered a 229-run thrashing at the hands of South Africa on Saturday, making just 170 runs in reply to South Africa’s 399/7.

That said, Sri Lanka has also struggled in India, losing four of their five matches. Following four successive defeats, the Sri Lankans finally picked up their first win of the campaign last weekend, defeating the Netherlands by five wickets.

I can see Sri Lanka giving England a run for their money on Thursday, but I’m confident that world-class stars like Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Jonny Bairstow will carry England over the line in Bangalore.

Best Bet: England (-300)

More Cricket World Cup Predictions for This Week

Before I sign off, I want to share some more Cricket World Cup predictions with you. My England vs. Sri Lanka prediction is in the books, but we have a couple of exciting matchups to enjoy before Thursday’s clash.

South Africa faces Bangladesh in Mumbai on Tuesday, while Australia locks horns with the Netherlands in New Delhi on Wednesday. Both of these games present attractive betting opportunities.

Of course, South Africa and Australia are expected to triumph, but the 2023 Cricket World Cup has already served up several upsets. For that reason, we need to take a closer look at the teams before locking in our predictions and picks.

South Africa vs. Bangladesh Prediction

Odds: South Africa (-450); Bangladesh (+275)

South Africa enters Tuesday’s clash with Bangladesh on the back of a huge victory over England. Heinrich Klaasen smashed 109 runs off 67 balls during the thrashing, with Reeza Hendricks (85) and Marco Jansen (75*) playing stellar supporting roles.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh suffered a seven-wicket defeat to India last time out. Having lost three of their four matches so far, the Tigers look set to make an early exit from the tournament.

It is worth noting, however, that South Africa recorded a shock loss against the Netherlands last week. Although the Porteas are favored to win on Tuesday, Bangladesh can take confidence from that result.

Australia vs. Netherlands Prediction

Odds: Australia (-2000); Netherlands (+800)

The moneyline odds tell you everything you need to know about this matchup. As you can see, Australia is the out-and-out favorite to triumph on Wednesday, leaving the Netherlands as the clear underdog.

Following back-to-back losses against India and South Africa, the Aussies have turned their campaign around in recent days. With convincing wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the bag, Australia will be confident of dismantling the Netherlands.

That said, the Dutch have not humiliated themselves in India. After beating South Africa, the underdogs pushed Sri Lanka all the way last weekend, so they will fancy their chances of causing another upset against Australia.

It’s Time to Finalize Your England vs. Sri Lanka Prediction

England has endured a World Cup to forget up to now, but I’m confident that the defending champions will kick-start their campaign by defeating Sri Lanka. I mean, England’s star-studded squad can’t underperform for much longer, can it?

I’m also excited to see how Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches pan out. It is no secret that South Africa and Australia are the clear favorites, but Bangladesh and the Netherlands both have the potential to cause an upset.

If you enjoyed my England vs. Sri Lanka prediction, be sure to return for more Cricket World Cup predictions. The tournament still hasn’t reached the halfway point, meaning we have tons of matches to look forward to.
