We’re back with our CFL Week 13 picks for Labour Day Weekend. This week’s CFL action doesn’t start until Saturday and there’s a doubleheader on Monday, which includes the Battle of the QEW.

The Argonauts lead the East Division and the Blue Bombers lead the West Division.

CFL Week 12 Results and Betting Recap

Here are the results from CFL Week 12 action:

  • Alouettes 17 vs. Blue Bombers 47 – Blue Bombers (-8.5) Covered ATS and Over 47.5
  • Stampeders 31 vs. Argonauts 39 – Stampeders (+9.5) Covered ATS and Over 51.5
  • Tiger-Cats 30 vs. Lions 13 – Tiger-Cats (+10.5) Covered ATS and Under 46.5
  • Redblacks 20 vs. Elks 30 – Elks (+1) Covered ATS and Over 45.5

The Elks finally won at home! Favorites went 2-2 (1-3 ATS) in Week 12 and are now 28-18 (22-23-1 ATS) on the season. The over/under went 3-1 in Week 12 and is now 23-24 on the season. I was on vacation and missed last week, but I’m 24-17 (+$590) on the season. Let’s get into my CFL Week 13 picks.

Lions vs. Alouettes Prediction for Week 13

  • When: Saturday, September 2nd, 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium
  • Opening Spread: Lions -3.5 / Current Spread: Lions -3.5
  • Opening Total: 45.5 Points / Current Total: 45.5 Points

The BC Lions (7-4 / 6-4-1 ATS) have lost two consecutive games. The Montreal Alouettes (6-4 / 5-5 ATS) are coming off a blowout loss. The Lions have a small edge in points scored and allowed, as BC score 25.0 PPG (3rd) and allow 19.7 PPG (1st), while the Als score 24.1 PPG (4th) and allow 22.6 PPG (3rd).

Montreal is averaging 319.7 YPG on offense (8th) and the Lions are allowing 291.9 YPG (1st). BC could struggle through the air again this week, as the Als only allow 230.7 PYPG (2nd). The Alouettes will need a big game from WR Austin Mack (who leads the CFL with 828 receiving yards) if they want to keep this close.

BC defeated Montreal in Week 5 (35-19) and the game went over the total. Both teams need a win in this spot. BC are 3-3 ATS on the road and 4-4 ATS as a favorite, while the Als are 1-4 as an underdog. Six of the last seven H2H games have gone under the total and I expect a low-scoring game.

Best Bet: Under 45.5 Points

Blue Bombers vs. Roughriders Prediction for Week 13

  • When: Sunday, September 3rd, 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan
  • Opening Spread: Blue Bombers -7.5 / Current Spread: Blue Bombers -7.5
  • Opening Total: 46.5 Points / Current Total: 46.5 Points

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (9-2 / 6-5 ATS) are 2-3 ATS on the road this season. QB Zach Collaros has thrown for 2,538 yards (3rd) and 20 passing TDs (1st). The Saskatchewan Roughriders (5-5 / 5-4-1 ATS) are coming off a bye week. QB Jake Dolegala will get the start after throwing 3 TDs in a Week 11 win.

Winnipeg ranks second in points scored (31.3 PPG) and allowed (20.5 PPG). The Roughriders rank last in points allowed (27.2 PPG) and they’re scoring 21.0 PPG (7th). Both teams will look to air it out, as the Bombers average 284.4 PYPG (2nd) and the Riders average 274.4 PYPG (3rd) on offense.

Winnipeg has been -7 point favorite in the last three H2H games and has covered each time. They’ve scored 54, 31, and 45 points in those victories. The Roughriders haven’t been able to stop the Bomber’s offense, but the Riders are coming off their best offensive performance where they scored 34 points.

Argonauts vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction for Week 13

  • When: Monday, September 4th, 2023 at 3:30 PM ET
  • Where: Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario
  • Opening Spread: Argonauts -8.5 / Current Spread: Argonauts -8.5
  • Opening Total: 47.5 Points / Current Total: 47.5 Points

The Toronto Argonauts (8-1 / 7-2 ATS) failed to cover ATS at home last week. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-6 / 4-6 ATS) are a tough team to get a read on. They lost to the Elks in Week 11 but bounced back with an upset win against the Lions in Week 12. What Tiger-Cats team will we see in Week 13?

Toronto snapped a seven-game Labour Day Weekend losing streak against the Ti-Cats last season, as they won on the road (28-8). Toronto is 4-0 (4-0 ATS) and the O/U record is 1-3 in the last four H2H games. The Argos are scoring 34.1 PPG (1st), while the Ti-Cats are scoring 20.0 PPG (8th).

Both teams struggle against the pass, as Hamilton allows 277.5 PYPG (7th), and the Argos are allowing 306.4 PYPG (8th). Toronto’s rushing attack (115.8 RYPG – 3rd) should find running lanes against the Tiger-Cats run defense (119.2 RYPG – 8th), but will it be enough to cover such a big point spread?

Elks vs. Stampeders Prediction for Week 13

  • When: Sunday, September 4th, 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta
  • Opening Spread: Stampeders -5.5 / Current Spread: Stampeders -5.5
  • Opening Total: 46.5 Points / Current Total: 46.5 Points

The Edmonton Elks (2-9 / 5-6 ATS) have won two games in a row with QB Tre Ford leading the way. Ford has thrown for 680 yards, 4 TDs, and 1 INT since taking over at QB in Week 10. The Calgary Stampeders (3-8 / 5-6 ATS) have lost three consecutive games, but they’re on a 2-0 ATS run.

Calgary QB Jake Maier leads the Canadian Football League in passing yards (2,785). The Stamps are scoring 22.5 PPG (6th) and allowing 26.7 PPG (8th). Edmonton is scoring 17.1 PPG (9th) and allowing 25.5 PPG (5th). The Elks have only allowed 30 points during their two-game winning streak.

Since last season, the Stampeders are 4-0 (2-2 ATS) against the Elks. Three of those games went over the game total. Edmonton is 3-2 ATS on the road, while Calgary is 2-3 ATS at home. Calgary is 9-1 SU in the last ten Labour Day Weekend games against the Elks, but will that trend continue?

CFL Week 13 Picks – Touchdown Scorers

I’m backing Kenny Lawler to score an anytime touchdown for the Bombers this week. Lawler has only played in five games, but he has 20 receptions for 427 yards and 3 TDs. He only has six receptions in Winnipeg’s last three games, but two of those were TD receptions.

Best Bet: Kenny Lawler to Score a Touchdown (-155)

CFL Week 13 Picks – Player Props

I’m betting on Ti-Cats RB James Butler to rush for over 50.5 yards against Toronto. The Argonauts have the best-rushing defense (77.7 RYPG), but this is a low total for Butler. Butler has rushed for 51+ yards in Hamilton’s last three games and seven of ten games this season.

Best Bet: James Butler Over 50.5 Rushing Yards (-120)
