The 2024 NBA trade deadline was today (Thursday, February 8th 2024 at 3:00 PM ET). We’re going to recap all of the NBA trade deadline moves and analyze which teams made out the best.
There have been quite a few NBA trades, but some teams were much busier than others.
A lot of blockbuster trades were made earlier in the season, which limited today’s impact. Damian Lillard was traded to the Bucks in September and James Harden was traded to the Clippers in November.
Toronto started reshaping their roster with the OG Anunoby trade in late December, which brought in two solid players (RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley). They dealt Pascal Siakam to the Pacers in January, which brought back three first-round picks (FRP). Terry Rozier was traded to the Heat in January also.

2024 NBA Trade Deadline – Yesterday’s Moves
There were three trades yesterday (Wednesday, February 7th 2024) to kick start the NBA trade deadline.
The Jazz sold high on Simone Fontecchio, as they weren’t going to pay him next season. They picked up Kevin Knox, Gabriele Procida and a second-round pick (SRP) in the deal with the Pistons.
Boston strengthened their frontcourt by adding Xavier Tillman. Tillman does a bit of everything. Tillman is averaging 6.0 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.2 SPG and 1.0 BPG in just 20.6 MPG. The Celtics sent the Grizzlies two SRP (2027 and 2030) and Lamar Stevens in the deal. Tillman is a nice addition.
The Timberwolves traded for Monte Morris. They gave up a SRP (2030), Troy Brown Jr. and Shake Milton in the deal with the Pistons. Milton and Brown Jr. could get more opportunities with Detroit.
Biggest 2024 NBA Trade Deadline Moves
The 2024 NBA trade deadline was a bit of a letdown. Dejounte Murray was expected to be on the move, but the Hawks opted to keep him in the fold, as they’re still in the playoff race in the East.
Here were the biggest 2024 NBA trade deadline moves:
- Buddy Hield Traded to the 76ers
Hield was one of the first players moved today. Hield will join the 76ers. He’s shooting 38.4% on threes and will bolster the team’s offense. The Pacers get Furkan Korkmaz, Marcus Morris and three SRPs.
- Patrick Beverley Traded to the Bucks
The Bucks bolstered their perimeter defense by acquiring Beverley. The 76ers get Cameron Payne and a SRP (2027) in the deal. Beverley is averaging 6.3 PPG, 3.1 RPG and 3.1 APG in 19.6 MPG this season.
- Royce O’Neale Traded to the Suns
The Suns needed a defensive veteran for the playoffs. The Suns also got David Roddy. The Grizzlies got Yuta Watanabe and a future pick swap, while the Nets received three SRPs and salaries (TBD). O’Neale is shooting 38.1% on threes over his career and will be able to help the Suns’ depth problems.
This is an inexpensive NBA trade deadline move for the Suns that could pay dividends.
Knicks Continue to Strengthen Roster
- Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks Traded to the Knicks
The Knicks will send Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, Malachi Flynn, Ryan Arcidiacono and two SRPs to Detroit. The Knicks are on a 9-1 run and continue to get stronger. Bogdanovic is averaging 20.2 PPG (32.9 MPG) and Burks is shooting 40.1% on threes this season. The Knicks are sleepers in the East.
The Knicks definitely won the 2024 NBA trade deadline if we include the OG trade.
- Gordon Hayward Traded to the Thunder
Adding some veteran leadership was a good move by the Thunder. Hayward is averaging 14.5 PPG and shooting 36.1% on threes. He’ll help the young Thunder roster and can still produce on the court. The Thunder traded Vasilije Micic, Tre Mann, Davis Bertans and draft compensation (TBD) to the Hornets.
- P.J. Washington Traded to the Mavericks
Washington will help the Mavericks frontcourt, as they push for a #6 seed or better in the West. The Mavs traded Grant Williams, Seth Curry and a FRP (2027) to the Hornets, which is a hefty price. Washington is averaging 13.6 PPG and 5.3 RPG in 29.2 MPG, plus he stretches the floor on offense.
Examining the Rest of the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline Moves
Here’s our recap of the rest of the 2024 NBA trade deadline moves from today:
- Doug McDermott Traded to the Pacers
McDermott is averaging just 6.0 PPG, but he’s shooting 43.9% on threes, which will help the Pacers who rank 5th in three-point shooting percentage (38.0%). The Spurs got Marcus Morris and a SRP (2029).
- Kelly Olynyk Traded to the Raptors
Toronto adds another Canadian player to the roster, but is he going to be re-signed? The bigger piece in the trade for the Raptors is Ochai Agbaji who has potential. The Jazz got Otto Porter Jr., Kira Lewis Jr. and a FRP (2024). The Jazz will get the worst of the Raptors’ FRPs in the deal.
- Spencer Dinwiddie Traded to the Raptors
The Raptors are expected to buyout Dinwiddie, which makes sense, as he could join a contender. The Raptors shredded salary by moving Dennis Schroder and Thaddeus Young to the Nets.
Not being able to move Bruce Brown at the NBA trade deadline hurts the rebuild efforts.
- Cory Joseph Traded to the Pacers
The Warriors moved Joseph who was barely contributing. The Warriors will get a future SRP and cash considerations in the deal. It’s a small move, but maybe Joseph will find his three-point shot in Indy.
Celtics Make a Pair of Small Moves
- Jaden Springer Traded to the Celtics
Springer will join the Celtics and the 76ers will get a SRP. Springer doesn’t move the needle. In a second move, the Celtics will receive a SRP from the Trail Blazers for Dalano Banton.
- Daniel Gafford Traded to the Mavericks
Gafford is a nice addition for the Mavericks frontcourt. Gafford is averaging 10.9 PPG and 8.0 RPG. The Wizards will get Richaun Holmes and a FRP (2024) from the Mavs. Gafford will help clean up the boards.
- Robin Lopez Traded to the Kings
The Bucks will be sending Lopez to the Kings for cash considerations. Lopez was barely playing with the Bucks and it’ll open up a roster spot. Lopez was only averaging 4.1 MPG this season.
- Danuel House Traded to the Pistons
Detroit traded for House, a SRP (2024) and cash considerations. The 76ers will get a SRP (2028). House wasn’t contributing enough for the 76ers, so moving him for a future SRP is a good move.

2024 NBA Trade Deadline – Winners and Losers
The 2024 NBA trade deadline is over. We’ll quickly examine the NBA trade deadline winners and losers.
There were several winners today. The Knicks are quietly becoming a contender in the East. The Knicks have recently added Anunoby, Bogdanovic and Burks, which helps on both sides of the court.
The Mavericks are the winners in the West. They needed frontcourt depth and got it. They had to give up two FRPs for Gafford and Washington, but the Mavericks are in win-now mode with Luka Doncic.
Phoenix weren’t able to make a lot of NBA trade deadline moves, but adding O’Neale is smart. Charlotte has done recently also, as they’ve embraced the rebuild and are accumulating assets.
The Raptors should have done the same at the NBA trade deadline, but they likely were asking too much for some of their assets like Brown. They did shed salary and open up minutes for younger players.
Several teams, including the Lakers, Warriors and Nuggets are NBA trade deadline losers. Denver were unable to do much, but adding a player like O’Neale would have helped. The Lakers didn’t execute one trade and the Warriors didn’t make any noise. The Warriors and Lakers are in trouble in the West.
