Today, I will be sharing my Women’s World Cup picks and predictions for this weekend. Before we go any further, though, let’s do a quick recap of the tournament so far.

What Has Happened in the Tournament So Far?

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup got underway on Thursday, July 20, with the two host nations kicking off proceedings. New Zealand secured a shock 1-0 victory over former World Cup champion Norway, while Australia defeated the Republic of Ireland by the same scoreline.

On Friday, Nigeria held Canada to a goalless draw in Group B, despite the reigning Olympic champion dominating the contest. Meanwhile, Switzerland claimed a comfortable 2-0 win against the Philippines, preventing the Asian side from registering a single attempt on target.

Right, are you ready for my Women’s World Cup picks for this weekend’s games? Let’s get right into it!

Women’s World Cup Picks for Saturday, July 22

Here are my 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup picks for Saturday, July 22. With high-profile teams such as the United States and England opening their accounts on Saturday, we are set for an exciting day of soccer action.

Please be aware that all kick-off times are in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST), which is two hours behind local time in New Zealand. It is also worth noting that AEST is 14 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET) and nine hours ahead of British Summer Time (BST).

Without further ado, let’s dive into my Women’s World Cup picks for Saturday.

United States vs. Vietnam Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 11:00
  • Stadium: Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand
  • Odds: United States (-20000); Draw (+7500); Vietnam (+12500)

The moneyline odds tell you everything you need to know about this matchup. While the United States is the bookies’ favorite to win the tournament at +225, Vietnam is a massive +30000 outsider.

It goes without saying that steering clear of the moneyline is a good idea here, unless you’re brave enough to bet against the four-time World Cup champion, of course! For that reason, I recommend exploring the goal/handicap markets for this match.

Zambia vs. Japan Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 17:00
  • Stadium: FMG Stadium Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand
  • Odds: Zambia (+720); Draw (+550); Japan (-385)

Zambia is making its debut at the FIFA Women’s World Cup this year. Despite achieving a solid third-place finish at the 2022 Africa Cup, the Copper Queens are not expected to reach the knockout phase in Australia and New Zealand.

By contrast, Japan won the 2011 World Cup before finishing as the runner-up in 2015. Following convincing victories over Canada (3-0) and Panama (5-0) earlier this year, Japan should seal another big win against Zambia.

Best Bet: Japan Over 2.5 Goals (-139)

England vs. Haiti Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 19:30
  • Stadium: Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, Australia
  • Odds: England (-10000); Draw (+7500); Haiti (+12500)

Boasting world-class superstars such as Keira Walsh, Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway, England is the bookies’ second favorite to lift the trophy this summer. Naturally, the Lionesses are also expected to make light work of World Cup debutant Haiti.

Like the United States vs. Vietnam game, the moneyline odds are not worth bothering with. Since England is favored to register a high-scoring victory on Saturday, it makes sense to utilize the totals or handicaps for this game.

Denmark vs. China Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 22:00
  • Stadium: HBF Park, Perth, Australia
  • Odds: Denmark (-159); Draw (+280); China (+390)

In my eyes, Denmark’s price of -159 is worth taking advantage of here. When you consider the gulf in quality between Denmark and China, it is surprising that China is not more of an underdog to win this clash.

The Danes have already defeated Norway, Uruguay, Sweden and Japan in 2023, while the Steel Roses have won just two of their eight matches this year. Plus, Denmark has reached six European Championship semifinals over the years, finishing as the runner-up in 2017.

Best Bet: Denmark (-159)

Women’s World Cup Picks for Sunday, July 23

Here are my FIFA Women’s World Cup picks for Sunday, July 23. Alongside South Africa and Jamaica, four European teams – the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal and France – are in action on Sunday.

Sweden vs. South Africa Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 15:00
  • Stadium: Sky Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand
  • Odds: Sweden (-1250); Draw (+1000); South Africa (+1600)

Sweden heads into the World Cup on a run of just two losses in eight matches and is favored to win Group G. By contrast, the South Africans have lost four of their previous seven games, conceding 13 goals in the process.

After finishing third at the 2019 World Cup, Sweden finished as the runner-up at the 2020 Olympic Games before reaching the semifinals of last year’s European Championship. As a result, the Blue and Yellow should make light work of South Africa.

Netherlands vs. Portugal Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 17:30
  • Stadium: Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin, New Zealand
  • Odds: Netherlands (-217); Draw (+375; Portugal (+500)

Sunday’s clash between the Netherlands and Portugal is undoubtedly one of the closest contests this weekend. The European nations look set to serve up an intriguing encounter in Dunedin, with both sides aiming to begin the tournament on a positive note.

That said, I’m backing the Netherlands to defeat Portugal. While the Dutch made it all the way to the final in 2019, Portugal has never previously qualified for the World Cup. Accordingly, the Oranje’s superiority should shine through.

Best Bet: Netherlands (-217)

France vs. Jamaica Prediction

  • Kick-Off: 20:00
  • Stadium: Sky Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand
  • Odds: France (-5000); Draw (+2500); Jamaica (+9000)

The last of this weekend’s Women’s World Cup picks concerns the Group F showdown between France and Jamaica. As the moneyline odds suggest, the French are on course to claim a straightforward victory on Sunday.

The Reggae Girlz have already suffered several heavy defeats this year, including a 5-2 loss against El Salvador and a 7-3 thrashing at the hands of Mexico. With that in mind, backing France to score multiple goals is a smart move.
