Open Sud de France predictions are on the SportsHub tennis menu this week. The ATP 250 tournament is in full swing in Montpellier, and I am here to serve up my top picks for the upcoming matches.

The 2024 tennis season started with a bang Down Under, with Jannik Sinner defeating Novak Djokovic on his way to clinching the Australian Open title. Now, attention turns towards the action in southern France.

Read on to discover my 2024 Open Sud de France predictions and picks. First, let’s examine the bookmakers’ outright odds and the favorites to lift the trophy.

Who Are the Favorites to Triumph in Montpellier?

Although high-profile superstars like Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev are not competing at this year’s Open Sud de France, plenty of big-name players are still on display.

The tournament comprises a singles and a doubles event, but I will focus on the singles event. Here are the outright odds for the singles event.

2024 OPEN SUD DE FRANCE OUTRIGHT ODDS (SINGLES)

  • Holger Rune (+225)
  • Alexander Bublik (+550)
  • Felix Auger-Aliassime (+550)
  • Gael Monfils (+600)
  • Arthur Cazaux (+1000)
  • Borna Coric (+1000)
  • Alexander Shevchenko (+1400)
  • Denis Shapovalov (+2000)
  • Alexandre Muller (+2800)
  • Gregoire Barrere (+2800)

Holger Rune is the bookies’ favorite to win the 2024 Open Sud de France singles title. After enduring a disappointing second-round exit at the Australian Open, the World #7 will be eager to bounce straight back in Montpellier.

As you can see, Alexander Bublik (World #27) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (World #30) are both priced at +550. Let’s not forget that Bublik knows what it takes to win the Open Sud de France, having triumphed in 2022.

Speaking of winning the Open Sud de France, let’s talk about Gael Monfils. The home crowd favorite has reached no fewer than four finals over the years, triumphing on three occasions (2010, 2014, 2020).

Arthur Cazaux and Borna Coric, priced at +1000, will also fancy their chances of going all the way in Montpellier. Cazaux reached the fourth round of the Aussie Open earlier this month, while Coric made it to the 2022 Cincinnati Masters final.

2024 Open Sud de France Predictions – Round of 16

Now that we’ve evaluated the odds and discussed the leading contenders, it’s time for me to reveal my Open Sud de France predictions. With the business end of the tournament approaching, my Open Sud de France predictions concern the rounds of 32 and 16.

The action gets underway on Wednesday, January 31. Many of the top seeds have already punched their ticket to the last 16, but there are still a handful of places up for grabs, with Rune, Bublik and Auger-Aliassime awaiting their opponents.

Let’s dive into my 2024 Open Sud de France predictions for the round of 32 and the round of 16, starting with the match between Alexander Shevchenko and Dalibor Svrcina.

Alexander Shevchenko vs. Dalibor Svrcina Prediction

Odds: Alexander Shevchenko (-334) / Dalibor Svrcina (+250)

It’s fair to say that 2023 was a breakout year for Shevchenko. The 23-year-old won two Challenger titles last season and also reached the final of the Moselle Open, only to fall at the last hurdle.

Like Shevchenko, Svrcina is attempting to make a name for himself on the ATP Tour. The Czech youngster appeared surprised in the second round of the Australian Open last year, but he is less experienced than Shevchenko.

Since only six players possess lower outright odds than Shevchenko, I’m backing the favorite to defeat the underdog in this matchup.

Best Bet: Alexander Shevchenko (-334)

Bernabe Zapata Miralles vs. Constant Lestienne Prediction

Odds: Bernabe Zapata Miralles (+275) / Constant Lestienne (-350)

Bernabe Zapata Miralles will be desperate to make a strong start to 2024 after enduring a below-par 2023 season. The Spaniard failed to pick up a Challenger title last year, losing to Hugo Gaston in the Iasi Open final.

Meanwhile, Constant Lestienne secured three Challenger titles last season. The 31-year-old also posted his highest-ever ATP singles ranking (World #48) in 2023, underlining the improvements to his game.

As a result, the bookies expect Lestienne to get the better of Zapata Miralles. The Frenchman will likely feature heavily in many people’s Open Sud de France predictions, but has he got what it takes to make a deep run on home soil this year?

Flavio Cobolli vs. Gael Monfils Prediction

Odds: Flavio Cobolli (+220) / Gael Monfils (-286)

Monfils is synonymous with the Open Sud de France. The legendary 37-year-old has claimed three titles over the years, with his most recent triumph coming in 2020.

It is also worth remembering that Monfils boasts a wealth of Grand Slam experience. The Frenchman has reached two major semifinals and eight major quarterfinals during his career, featuring in the last eight of the 2022 Australian Open.

That said, Flavio Cobolli will be hopeful of spoiling Monfils’ party in Montpellier. Thanks to a few Challenger final appearances last year, the 21-year-old Italian has steadily climbed the rankings recently.
