Mboko Defeats Andreescu in All-Canadian Clash

Victoria Mboko cruised past fellow Canadian Bianca Andreescu 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open on Tuesday in Tokyo.

The 19-year-old needed just 75 minutes to complete the victory, her first since capturing the WTA 1000 title in Montreal in August against Naomi Osaka. Mboko entered the match after four straight first-round exits but never trailed in this one, winning nearly 70 percent of her first serves and converting 77 percent of those points.

Elsewhere in Tokyo, Eva Lys of Germany defeated Great Britain’s Katie Boulter 6-2, 6-1. Japanese teenager Sonobe Wakana topped Czech wild card Nikola Bartunkova 6-4, 6-3, while American Sofia Kenin ousted Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima 6-1, 6-3.
