WTA Roundup: Fernandez Wins in Osaka, Rybakina Triumphs in Ningbo

Leylah Fernandez battled through a three-set final to capture the Japan Open title in Osaka. The fourth seed dominated early, winning the first seven games, but 18-year-old qualifier Tereza Valentova forced a decider before falling 6-0, 5-7, 6-3.

Fernandez closed the two-hour, 11-minute contest with her seventh break of serve to seal her fifth career title and second of 2025, following her Washington D.C. win.

In China, Elena Rybakina earned her 10th career WTA crown at the Ningbo Open after rallying past Ekaterina Alexandrova 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. The Kazakh star fired 11 aces and won 88% of first-serve points to record her third straight final victory.
