We may only be a few days into the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, but the tournament has already dished up plenty of elite-level tennis action, high-profile upsets and off-court drama.

The men’s and women’s singles events have already lost several seeded players, including Coco Gauff (#7) and Felix Auger-Aliassime (#11). However, the bookies’ favorites – Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek – remain on course for glory.

In this 2023 Wimbledon update, I go over all the key talking points from the tournament so far. You will also find my predictions and picks for some upcoming matches, in addition to a breakdown of the latest 2023 Wimbledon winner odds.

Let’s start by reliving the major stories so far before looking ahead to the upcoming matches and searching for value in the outright odds.

Biggest Stories of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships So Far

In terms of drama and shock results, Day 1 of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships did not disappoint. On Monday, world #118 knocked out #11 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime in the men’s singles tournament, while #24 seed Yoshihito Nishioka also fell at the first hurdle.

Meanwhile, the women’s singles event lost four seeded players on Day 1. Coco Gauff (#7) suffered a shock defeat to Sofia Kenin, while Liudmila Samsonova (#15), Zheng Qinwen (#24) and Mayar Sherif (#31) also exited the tournament.

Novak Djokovic claimed a comfortable three-set victory over Pedro Cachin, while Iga Swiatek defeated Zhu Lin 6-1, 6-3 to punch her ticket to the next round.

On Day 2, the British duo of Andy Murray and Cameron Norrie booked their place in the next round, along with Carlos Alcaraz and Aryna Sabalenka. However, local man Dan Evans suffered a shock loss against unseeded Frenchman Quentin Halys.

Top 2023 Wimbledon Picks for the Opening Rounds

At the time of writing, Day 3 of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships is in full swing. However, many of the top tennis sportsbooks have already released odds for Day 4 and beyond.

Below, I share my predictions and picks for a handful of standout matches on the 2023 Wimbledon schedule.

Daniel Elahi Galan (+155) vs. Oscar Otte (-222)

Oscar Otte kicked off his 2023 Wimbledon campaign with a straight-sets victory over fellow German Dominik Koepfer, while Daniel Elahi Galan secured a surprise win against Yoshihito Nishioka. Galan exceeded all expectations in the first round, but I’m backing Otte to triumph on Day 4.

Best Bet: Oscar Otte (-222)

Liam Broady (+340) vs. Casper Ruud (-588)

Priced at -588, Casper Ruud heads into his Day 4 clash with Liam Broady as the overwhelming favorite. As a British wild card, Broady will have the backing of the Wimbledon crowd behind him, but Ruud is expected to flex his muscles.

Magda Linette (-189) vs. Barbora Strycova (+135)

After reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open earlier this year, Magda Linette will be confident of running deep at Wimbledon. Barbora Strycova has performed well on grass courts in the past, but the 37-year-old is undoubtedly past her best.

Best Bet: SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK

Jessica Pegula (-769) vs. Cristina Bucsa (+400)

This matchup brings together #4 seed Jessica Pegula and world #78 Cristina Bucsa. Although Bucsa registered a strong win over Kamilla Rakhimova in the first round, she will struggle to replicate that result against one of the event’s top players.

Best Bet: SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK

Leylah Fernandez (+195) vs. Caroline Garcia (-286)

After reaching the fourth round at Wimbledon last year, Caroline Garcia made it all the way to the 2022 US Open semifinals. The #5 seed is favored to overcome Leylah Fernandez, but the 2020 US Open finalist won’t let Garcia have it all her own way on Day 4.

Veronika Kudermetova (-152) vs. Marketa Vondrousova (+110)

Veronika Kudermetova enters the second round as the 11th-highest seed remaining in the women’s singles tournament. Since Marketa Vondrousova has never managed to get past the second round at Wimbledon, I’m backing Kudermetova to book her place in the third round.

Best Bet: Veronika Kudermetova (-152)

2023 Wimbledon Outright Odds – Who Will Lift the Trophy?

Let’s wrap things up by looking at the latest 2023 Wimbledon winner odds for both the men’s singles and women’s singles.

2023 Wimbledon Winner Odds (Men’s Singles)

  • Novak Djokovic (-165)
  • Carlos Alcaraz (+300)
  • Jannik Sinner (+1600)
  • Daniil Medvedev (+2200)
  • Alexander Zverev (+5000)
  • Sebastian Korda (+5000)
  • Andy Murray (+5000)
  • Holger Rune (+6600)
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas (+8000)
  • Alex de Minaur (+8000)

As you can see, the bookies view the battle for the men’s singles title as a two-horse race between Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz. While Djokovic has won four of the previous five Wimbledon titles, Alcaraz is seen as the heir to Djokovic’s throne.

If you’re looking for a value bet for the men’s singles event, look no further than Stefanos Tsitsipas. The 24-year-old Greek reached the Australian Open final earlier this year and has already made six semifinal appearances in Grand Slam events.

2023 Wimbledon Winner Odds (Women’s Singles)

  • Iga Swiatek (+220)
  • Aryna Sabalenka (+400)
  • Elena Rybakina (+450)
  • Petra Kvitova (+850)
  • Ons Jabeur (+900)
  • Sofia Kenin (+1800)
  • Madison Keys (+2000)
  • Karolina Muchova (+2000)
  • Jelena Ostapenko (+2200)
  • Daria Kasatkina (+2500)

According to the bookies, Iga Swiatek remains in pole position to clinch the women’s singles title. It is worth noting, however, that the women’s tournament is tighter than the men’s, with the top three women priced between +220 and +450.

At +900, Ons Jabeur looks like the best value bet right now. The 28-year-old Tunisian reached the final of both Wimbledon and the US Open last year, making her an excellent candidate to go all the way this time around.
