NBA roundup: Celtics snap Pistons’ 13-game winning streak

A busy NBA Cup night saw Boston avoid a major upset, the Thunder extend their historic run, and Toronto lock up group supremacy. For bettors, sharps who followed top cappers on NBA totals and spreads picked up value on key matchups like Grizzlies-Pelicans and Spurs-Blazers.

Celtics 117, Pistons 114

Boston narrowly avoided handing Detroit a franchise-record 14th consecutive win. Jaylen Brown led with 33 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists. Derrick White added 27, and Payton Pritchard sealed the result with late free throws and a game-ending steal. Cade Cunningham exploded for 42 points but missed a crucial third free throw that could have tied it. The Pistons had also won 13 straight in 1989–90 and 2003–04 — both title seasons.

Capper Insight: Neal Harris, red-hot in NBA sides, nailed Boston -6.5 early, citing sharp action off computer model data. His group has cashed 4 of its last 5 NBA Cup plays.

Knicks 129, Hornets 101

New York overpowered Charlotte behind Jalen Brunson’s 33 points and five assists. Josh Hart contributed 22 off the bench, and the Knicks shot 52% from the field. Charlotte struggled again, turning it over 17 times and falling out of NBA Cup contention after a 41% shooting night. Brandon Miller led the Hornets with 18.

Heat 106, Bucks 103

Tyler Herro scored 29 points with seven assists, and Miami held off a late Bucks surge to go 3-1 in Group C. Bam Adebayo chipped in 17 points and 11 boards. Milwaukee played without Giannis for the fourth straight game and has now lost six in a row. Myles Turner and Ryan Rollins combined for 50 points in the loss.

Thunder 113, Timberwolves 105

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 40 points as the Thunder improved to 18-1 overall and 3-0 in NBA Cup play. Oklahoma City has won 10 straight, the best 19-game start since the 2015–16 Warriors. Anthony Edwards had 31 for Minnesota, but the Wolves fell to 2-2 and are out of Cup contention.

Capper Insight: The Computer Plays model tagged Thunder -4.5 with 71% confidence. It was one of the highest-rated NBA sides of the night — and it delivered.

Raptors 97, Pacers 95

Brandon Ingram hit a last-second jumper to give Toronto its ninth straight win and a 4-0 finish in East Group A. Ingram scored 26 points, and Scottie Barnes had 24 with 10 boards. The Pacers dropped to 0-3 in Cup action despite 16 from T.J. McConnell and 15 from Bennedict Mathurin, who missed a last-second three.

Grizzlies 133, Pelicans 128 (OT)

Jaren Jackson Jr. led Memphis with 27 points, and Jaylen Wells added a season-high 25 in a high-scoring OT thriller. Vince Williams Jr. played emergency point guard and dropped 17 assists. The Pelicans got 24 from Jose Alvarado and a double-double from Saddiq Bey but fell in OT after Memphis closed on a 9-2 run.

Capper Insight: Sas Insider, now leading the Picks Leaderboard, hammered Over 228 as one of his premium releases. It cleared with minutes to spare in regulation.

Spurs 115, Trail Blazers 102

De’Aaron Fox put up 37 points and eight assists to lead the Spurs, who improved to 4-1 without Victor Wembanyama. Devin Vassell scored 23, and San Antonio stayed alive in West Group C. Portland got 37 from Deni Avdija but fell behind late and was eliminated from Cup contention at 2-2.

Suns 112, Kings 100

Mark Williams and Collin Gillespie scored 21 apiece, and Phoenix led wire-to-wire in a road win over Sacramento. The Suns improved to 3-0 in West Group A, setting up a showdown with OKC. Sacramento was eliminated with the loss, despite 19 points each from Keegan Murray and Russell Westbrook.

Rockets 104, Warriors 100

Reed Sheppard scored a career-high 31 points, and Houston closed out Golden State in San Francisco. Alperen Sengun sealed the win late with a bucket inside, and Amen Thompson had 14 rebounds. The Warriors, already eliminated from Cup contention, lost Steph Curry to injury in the final seconds. Jimmy Butler III led Golden State with 21 points.
