The Boston Red Sox took another step forward in the AL wild-card race with a 6-3 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday, while the Dodgers, Astros, and Padres also grabbed important victories in a busy day across Major League Baseball.

Red Sox 6, Yankees 3

Nathaniel Lowe’s tiebreaking double in the seventh and Roman Anthony’s late two-run homer powered Boston to a series-opening victory in the Bronx.

Boston stranded 14 runners but still improved to 6-1 against New York this season. Anthony went 2-for-5 with three RBIs, while Lowe and Bobby Witt Jr. chipped in key hits.

The Yankees committed four errors, leading to three unearned runs. Ben Rice homered, and Paul Goldschmidt and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each drove in a run, but the loss snapped New York’s five-game win streak.

Brewers 4, Cubs 1

Brice Turang’s two-run homer in the second and a combined five-hitter from six pitchers guided Milwaukee past Chicago.

Quinn Priester allowed only one run across 4 1/3 innings, while Trevor Megill earned his 30th save. For Chicago, Shota Imanaga pitched seven solid innings but took the loss.

Athletics 8, Twins 3

Tyler Soderstrom went 4-for-4 and Lawrence Butler delivered a three-run double as Oakland completed its first sweep in Minnesota since 2014.

Nick Kurtz added his 26th homer, while starter Jack Perkins (3-2) earned the win with five strong innings. Minnesota’s Jose Urena (0-1) gave up six runs in five innings.

Padres 8, Giants 4

A six-run fifth inning, highlighted by Manny Machado’s two-run double, lifted San Diego past rival San Francisco.

Machado finished with three RBIs, while Fernando Tatis Jr. and Xander Bogaerts each added two hits. San Francisco briefly led 2-0 but dropped to 9-22 since the All-Star Break.

Dodgers 9, Rockies 5

With Shohei Ohtani resting, Freddie Freeman and Andy Pages homered to pace Los Angeles in Denver.

Clayton Kershaw (8-2) recorded his 220th career win, working 5 2/3 innings. Colorado’s Brenton Doyle drove in all four Rockies runs with a home run and a single.

Astros 7, Orioles 2

Houston snapped a four-game skid thanks to two-run homers by Christian Walker and Yainer Diaz.

Jesus Sanchez went 5-for-5 with four singles and a double, while Jason Alexander (4-1) earned the win. Baltimore rookie Dylan Beavers hit his first career homer, but starter Brandon Young allowed seven runs in just three innings.

Nationals 9, Mets 3

James Wood hit a three-run homer and Brady House collected three hits as Washington stormed back to win the rubber match.

New York led 3-0 early behind homers from Francisco Lindor and Starling Marte, but five Nationals relievers combined for nearly five shutout innings.

Royals 6, Rangers 4

Vinnie Pasquantino’s fifth-inning home run lifted Kansas City to its eighth win in 10 games.

Starter Michael Lorenzen allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings, but five relievers, including Angel Zerpa (5-1), shut down Texas over the final frames.

Cardinals 7, Rays 4

A five-run second inning, capped by Alec Burleson’s two-run single, carried St. Louis to victory in Tampa Bay.

Willson Contreras added a solo homer, while Sonny Gray (12-6) picked up the win. Yandy Diaz hit a two-run shot for the Rays, who dropped their fourth straight.
