UConn Could Dominate This Final Four

The defending national champion UConn Huskies are the overall favorite to win this year’s national championship. If they do, UConn would become the first team since Florida in 2006-07 to repeat as national champions. Head coach Dan Hurley and company have everything they need in order to do so. The Huskies have been dominant so far in the NCAA tournament.

UConn has won its four tournament games by an average of 27.7 points per game. What’s interesting is that the Huskies haven’t shot that well from three-point range. UConn is a Top 70 three-point shooting team and they’ve hit just 24.6 percent from behind the arc in their last three games. UConn won those three games by 25, 30, and 17. That’s one of the reasons why bettors are still backing the Huskies even though they are favored by 11.5 points.

UConn Double-Digit Favorite Against Alabama

UConn was a double-digit favorite in three of its four NCAA tournament games. The Huskies have covered in all four and they are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. UConn covered double-digit point spreads in seven of those games. 

Tonight, UConn will play Alabama, the top-scoring team in the nation, averaging over 90 points per game. Alabama plays an up-tempo style, but what many forget about UConn is that they are one of the best defenses in the country. UConn ranks fifth in the nation in Defensive Efficiency. 

In their four tournament games, UConn has held its opponents to 52, 58, 52, and 52 points. On the other end, despite not hitting from three-point range, UConn has worked the paint. The Huskies and 7-foot-2-inch Donovan Clingan have averaged 53.5 paint points in the tournament. Alabama doesn’t have an answer for that. Remember, this is a Crimson Tide team that gives up 81.1 points per game (348th in the nation).

UConn is 26-6 ATS in NCAA tournament games since 2009. They have covered by double figures in 14 of those games and they’ve covered 10 straight in the tourney. • Sports Central: Bettors can find free expert picks from Sports Central. Yesterday’s picks went 3-1. All four were MLB picks and the winnings totaled $355. 
• James Acker: Remember, James is one of our top CBB cappers. Yesterday, he went 3-0 on two MLB picks and one NBA prediction. He earned $300 to give him $605 for the week. It would be worth looking to see if James has picks for tonight’s UConn game.
• The Coach: Coach Rick also took home $300 last night, but went 4-1 in the process. The Coach nailed his two NBA picks but missed on the Avalanche in the NHL. With a big day yesterday, Coach Rick is now up $780 over the last three days. The Coach does have picks for each of today’s NCAA tournament games.

Basketball Is Trending

It’s that time of year when the big thing trending in the sports world is basketball. It is, of course, time for the men’s Final Four, but don’t forget about the women. Their Final Four began last night and oh, what a Final Four it was.

• UConn falls: The Huskies’ women’s team lost a heartbreaker, 71-69, to Caitlin Clark and Iowa. It was billed as a showdown between Clark and UConn’s Paige Bueckers, but it came down to a late offensive foul call on the Huskies. Iowa advances to the national championship game once again.

• SC continues to roll: The South Carolina Gamecocks were 36-0 heading into last night’s Final Four matchup with NC State. South Carolina is now 37-0 after an easy 78-59 win over the Wolfpack. The Gamecocks will take on the Hawkeyes on Sunday for the national championship.

UConn-Bama, NC State-Purdue The Focus of Today’s Schedule

There is a ton of sports action on today’s schedule, but we all know the focus is on today’s Final Four. NC State-Purdue gets everything underway with a 6:09 p.m. tip-off. It’s still a big Saturday in the NHL and there is a long list of international soccer matches today. 

MMA fans have a nice card to bet on tonight and yes, there is spring football. The UFL is back for Week 2. 

Here’s a look at today’s schedule.

1. MLB: All 30 MLB teams are in action tonight. The Dodgers and Cubs are features on FS1 with Yoshinobu Yamamoto getting his third start of the season tonight. 
2. UFC Fight Night: Tonight’s middleweight main event features Brendan Allen 23-5 against Chris Curtis (31-10). Check out Sports Hub’s resident MMA expert SWJ Sports for all of our UFC picks tonight.
3. Light NBA schedule: With all of the focus on UConn and the rest of the Final Four, the NBA has just four games on the schedule. The Cavs play at the Lakers in an afternoon game. LA is tied with Sacramento in the West. Both teams have identical 44-33 records. The Kings own the tiebreaker. The Pistons, a model of NBA tanking, also play today. They play another team – Brooklyn – that has already been eliminated from the playoffs.
4. Final Four: We’ve mentioned tonight’s Final Four games. NC State and Purdue kick it all off with a 6:09 p.m. ET tip-off. UConn and Alabama will follow. The winners will meet in Monday night’s national championship game.

5. Huge soccer day: The Premier League has been playing all week long and today there are seven more matches (five are already in progress and one is done). There are six Bundesliga matches and MLS has 13 matches on the schedule. There is English League Championship and English League Two action as well as La Liga and Ligue 1 matches today. If you’re a soccer bettor, you’ve got tons of opportunities to cash in today.
6. Saturday is for ice: The NHL will play 11 games today, including the ABC doubleheader. It’s an afternoon twin bill with Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh dropping the puck at 1:00 p.m. ET. Florida at Boston follows with a 3:30 p.m. start.
7. Valero Texas Open: Akshay Bhatia maintained a five-stroke lead heading into today’s third round. Webb Simpson shot a second-round 67 to put himself in the mix.
8. Saturday semifinal tennis: On the ATP Tour today, it’s semifinal action in the Fayiz Sarofim & Co. US Men’s Clay Court Championships, the Millenium Estoril Open, and the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakesh. The women continue in their three separate WTA Tour events. It’s also semifinal action in the Charleston Open, the Copa Colsanitas, and the Open Internacional Femini Solgirones.
9. UFL Week 2: The UFL is back after an exciting Week 1. The San Antonio Brahmas will take on the Memphis Showboats in a battle of 1-0 teams beginning at noon. Game 2 pits Arlington against St. Louis.
