Moritz Seider scored the game-winner with 23.3 seconds left in overtime as Detroit completed the home-and-home sweep of Washington.

Fabian Zetterlund led the way with two power-play goals and an assist as the Senators won their fourth straight and took three in the four-game season series vs. Boston. Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens also had three-point nights (one goal, two assists each).
Charlie McAvoy scored his first goal of the season and added an assist, and David Pastrnak scored for Boston. Joonas Korpisalo allowed five goals on 17 shots before Jeremy Swayman relieved him in the second.
Avalanche 5, Wild 1
Nathan MacKinnon scored twice as Colorado ended Minnesota’s seven-game winning streak in Saint Paul.
Cale Makar and Brock Nelson each posted a goal and two assists. Mackenzie Blackwood made 28 saves, while Martin Necas also scored and Gabriel Landeskog plus Valeri Nichushkin added two assists apiece. The Avs won their fifth straight.
Ryan Hartman scored for Minnesota, and Jesper Wallstedt made 37 saves. The Wild lost for the first time in five games since acquiring Quinn Hughes from Vancouver.
Penguins 4, Canadiens 3 (SO)
Rickard Rakell scored the shootout winner as Pittsburgh edged Montreal and finally got its first shootout win of the season.
Rakell and Sidney Crosby each had a goal and an assist in regulation, and Noel Acciari also scored. Rakell beat Jakub Dobes with a backhand deke in the third round; Pittsburgh improved to 1-5 in shootouts.
Oliver Kapanen and Ivan Demidov each had a goal and an assist for Montreal, and Noah Dobson scored as the Canadiens fell to 4-1-2 in their last seven.

Oilers 4, Golden Knights 3
Edmonton sprinted to a 4-0 lead and held on as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice and added an assist.
Connor McDavid posted a goal and two assists for his fifth three-point game in December and extended his point streak to 10 games (12 goals, 26 points). Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist and Leon Draisaitl added two assists as the Oilers pulled into a tie with Vegas for second in the Pacific.
Tomas Hertl finished with a goal and two assists for the Golden Knights, Noah Hanifin had three assists, and Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist. Pavel Dorofeyev also scored as Vegas dropped its third straight. Filip Forsberg extended his point streak to eight games as Nashville edged a depleted New York team.
Justus Annunen stopped 16 shots and nearly had a shutout. Forsberg scored his team-leading 16th goal, and Steven Stamkos added career goal No. 596 late. Jonny Brodzinski scored for the Rangers, while Jonathan Quick made 30 saves but fell to 0-4-1 in his last five.
Mammoth 4, Jets 3 (OT)
Clayton Keller scored 13 seconds into overtime and added an assist as Utah beat Winnipeg in Salt Lake City.
Lawson Crouse, JJ Peterka, and Alexander Kerfoot also scored for the Mammoth. Dylan Guenther and Mikhael Sergachev had two assists each, and Karel Vejmelka made 23 saves.
Kyle Connor scored twice for Winnipeg, Morgan Barron added a goal, and Mark Scheifele posted two assists as the Jets remained winless in seven of their last eight.
