NHL roundup: Mikko Rantanen tops 300 goals in Stars’ shootout win

Stars 4, Oilers 3 (SO)

Wyatt Johnston scored the shootout winner and added three assists as Dallas rallied for a 4-3 victory over Edmonton on Tuesday night. Mikko Rantanen netted two goals and Miro Heiskanen also scored, helping the Stars extend their points streak to seven games.

Casey DeSmith stopped 23 shots and Jason Robertson scored in the shootout. For Edmonton, Connor McDavid had a goal and an assist, Vasily Podkolzin and Leon Draisaitl also scored, and Stuart Skinner made 24 saves.

Akira Schmid recorded a 24-save shutout and Ivan Barbashev scored the lone goal as Vegas edged Detroit in Las Vegas. It marked the second career shutout for Schmid, who improved to 6-1-0 on the year.

Pyotr Kochetkov made 25 saves in his season debut and Carolina blanked New York, extending the Rangers’ home struggles. Nikolaj Ehlers scored a first-period power-play goal in his Hurricanes debut, Seth Walker added a second-period tally, and Seth Jarvis sealed it with an empty-net goal.

Trevor Zegras buried the shootout winner as Philadelphia outlasted Montreal. Zegras also had two assists in regulation, while Nikita Grebenkin scored his first NHL goal and Dan Vladar made 16 saves.

Marat Khusnutdinov scored late in regulation and again in the shootout to lift Boston over New York. Viktor Arvidsson and Pavel Zacha also scored for the Bruins, who have won four straight. Jeremy Swayman made 29 saves and stopped all three attempts in the shootout.

Bo Horvat scored twice for the Islanders, who lost for the fourth time in six games. Ilya Sorokin finished with 24 saves.

Mammoth 2, Sabres 1 (OT)

Clayton Keller scored 47 seconds into overtime as Utah beat Buffalo on the road. Keller also assisted on Nick Schmaltz’s third-period goal, while Karel Vejmelka made 17 saves and even picked up an assist on the game-winner.

Buffalo’s Noah Ostlund scored his first career goal, and Alex Lyon stopped 33 shots but suffered his third straight overtime defeat.

Wild 3, Predators 2 (OT)

Marcus Johansson delivered the overtime winner to lift Minnesota over Nashville. Kirill Kaprizov and rookie Zeev Buium also scored, while Filip Gustavsson made 32 saves.

Matthew Wood and Steven Stamkos had the goals for Nashville, and Justus Annunen recorded 22 saves.

Kings 3, Jets 0

Adrian Kempe scored the game-winner and Darcy Kuemper stopped 23 shots as Los Angeles shut out Winnipeg. Kevin Fiala and Drew Doughty added goals as the Kings snapped a two-game skid.

Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves for the Jets, whose three-game win streak came to an end.

Avalanche 3, Lightning 2

Victor Olofsson scored twice and Ross Colton added one as Colorado handed Tampa Bay its first loss since Oct. 23. Scott Wedgewood made 22 saves as the Avalanche improved to 3-0-2 in their past five.

Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point scored for the Lightning, and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 30 saves.

Ducks 7, Panthers 3

Cutter Gauthier recorded his first career hat trick and added an assist to power Anaheim past Florida. Nikita Nesterenko added a goal and an assist, while Lukas Dostal made 18 saves as the Ducks picked up their fourth straight win.

Evan Rodrigues had a goal and an assist for the Panthers, who continue to struggle on the road with one win in six games. Brad Marchand and Eetu Luostarinen also scored.
