Unseeded Frenchman Ugo Humbert won 36 of 45 first-service points and saved both break points he faced to topple No. 1 seed Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4 in the Swiss Indoors Basel Round of 16 on Thursday in Switzerland.
Fritz packed up along with fellow American Ben Shelton, the No. 2 seed. Spaniard Jaume Munar also scored a 6-3, 6-4 upset over Shelton. Munar won 33 of 38 first-service points and produced 10 aces without a double fault along the way.
American qualifier Reilly Opelka is still alive after outlasting Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands 7-6 (5), 6-7 (7), 6-3 in two hours and 40 minutes. No. 4 seed Casper Ruud of Norway beat Swiss wild card Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-6 (5), while fifth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime and ninth seed Denis Shapovalov, both of Canada, also advanced in straight sets.

No. 1 seed Jannik Sinner had more unforced errors (15) than winners (12), but still defeated Italian countryman Flavio Cobolli 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the Round of 16 in Vienna, Austria.
Sinner will face No. 8 seed Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals after Bublik beat Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo 6-4, 6-2. Two other Italians joined Sinner in the quarterfinals as No. 4 seed Lorenzo Musetti beat Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-4, and Matteo Berrettini took down Brit Cameron Norrie 7-6 (6), 6-7 (9), 6-4. Berrettini had 16 aces and won 16 of his 17 service games.
No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany eased past Italian qualifier Matteo Arnaldi 6-4, 6-4, and France’s Corentin Moutet upset Russian No. 6 seed Daniil Medvedev 7-6 (3), 6-4.
