Shelton Battles Past Majchrzak in Basel

Ben Shelton needed every ounce of his power and composure to edge Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak 6-7 (2), 6-3, 7-6 (7) in the opening round of the Swiss Indoors on Tuesday in Basel, Switzerland.

The No. 2 seed fought off two match points to record his first win since the U.S. Open, where a left shoulder injury ended his run in the third round. The 23-year-old American, who reached the Basel final last year, struck 13 aces without a double fault in the tight two-hour battle.

Fellow American Reilly Opelka also moved on with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, while No. 9 seed Denis Shapovalov of Canada rallied past American Marcos Giron 6-7 (3), 6-0, 7-6 (4).

Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland advanced alongside Marin Cilic of Croatia, Valentin Royer of France, and Brazilian rising star Joao Fonseca. For bettors tracking ATP form swings, match performance trends can be reviewed on the Sportshub Leaderboard and the Bettor’s Handbook.

Norrie Upsets Rublev in Vienna

Cameron Norrie of Great Britain delivered one of the early shocks at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna, eliminating seventh seed Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-2 in the first round.

After Rublev forced a decider with a late tiebreak push, Norrie broke twice in the third set to take control and seal the upset on his first match point. The Brit advances with renewed momentum after several early-round exits in recent events.

Second seed Alexander Zverev survived a scare of his own, outlasting fellow Brit Jacob Fearnley 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (5). Fourth seed Lorenzo Musetti of Italy defeated Serbia’s Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-3, while Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo and Thomas Martin Etcheverry joined Austria’s Filip Misolic in the next round.
