Kansas City Current 4, Chicago Stars 1
Bia Zaneratto and Temwa Chawinga each recorded a goal and an assist as the NWSL-leading Current rolled to a 4-1 home win and extended their unbeaten streak to 15 matches.
Debinha opened the scoring in the 7th minute, finishing calmly to give Kansas City early control. In the 51st, Chawinga set up Zaneratto for a clinical finish before netting her own in the 73rd to secure the result. Lo’eau LaBonta capped the night with a penalty-kick conversion, tying the league record with her 14th career PK goal.
The victory pushed Kansas City (18-2-2, 56 points) into a share of the all-time regular-season wins record. They remain unbeaten at 13-0-2 since back-to-back losses in late April and early May. Chicago (2-11-9, 15 points) was officially eliminated from playoff contention despite Nadia Gomes ending the Current’s league-record 870-minute shutout streak with a strike in the 58th minute. Stars goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher made six saves, becoming the first in league history to reach 700.
Gotham FC 3, Portland Thorns 0
Rose Lavelle scored and assisted as Gotham controlled the match in Harrison, N.J., extending their unbeaten run to five (4-0-1).
Midge Purce struck first in the 10th minute, slotting past the keeper to set the tone. Just before halftime, Lavelle doubled the lead with a composed finish. In the 73rd, she provided the assist on Katie Stengel’s goal to put the match out of reach.
Gotham (9-6-7, 34 points) stayed firmly in playoff contention, climbing above the cut line with the win. Portland (8-7-7, 31 points) managed only four total shots and saw its three-match unbeaten streak snapped. The Thorns’ lack of attacking punch underscored their inconsistency on the road.
